  2. The AP's take on the committee's 2nd ranking - AP NewsOhio State stays on top of playoff bracket, while Miami m...Ohio State stayed atop the College Football Playoff rankings for the second straight week, while Indiana remained at No. 2 despite barely squeaking out a victory last week while third-ranked Texas A&a
  3. How does the committee's 2nd ranking compare with the well-respected Massey Computer Ratings? The top 12 is the same as the committee, with these differences. No. 6 Texas Tech is 4 spots higher than Massey's No. 10 ranking. Oregon at No. 8 is two spots lower than Massey's No. 6 ranking. Other B1G differences. Massey ranks USC 4 spots higher at No. 13. Michigan is four spots higher at No. 14. Iowa is two spots higher at No. 19. Unranked Washington is Massey No. 22, and unranked Illinois is Massey No. 24. The likely one PO spot ACC has five teams ranked in the committee's top 25. Why? No conference is being more disrespected by the committee than the Big Ten. 🤬 I know, you're shocked, right? I agree with others who have posted terrific comments, the 5 seed, even at 11-1, may not be there for OBD. A 12-1 Texas Tech could be the 4th seed with one of Ohio State or Indiana, and the loser of the SEC champ game, with the fifth and sixth seeds. Last season, the committee's rankings were not influenced by conference champ games except for 3-loss ACC champ Clemson making the field. I think the committee will have to use the Champ Game results this season to come up with a logical seeding of the field. Proletariat CFB fans are not allowed to peek behind the curtain to see the SOS and SOR rankings being used by the Wizards of Grapevine. We can only hear about it through the grapevine. 🤔 The SOS and SOR rankings the ESPN talking (dead) heads refer to are generated by ESPN's FPI and SP+. However, as of now, OBD is ranked No. 3 by FPI and SP+. 🤪 It's only a movie! --- Don't forget to cheer for No. 22 Pitt to put No. 9 Notre Dame in the playoff pits and open up an at-large spot in the PO field.😁 GameDay is in Pittsburgh this week. Broadcast of the game on ABC at Noon Eastern, 9 AM Pacific.
  4. I think this year's Ohio St. team is running a similar path to Georgia's repeat title in 2022. The offense may not be quite as explosive, but they haven't even broken a sweat this year. For that reason, I'd like to avoid their side of the bracket if at all possible. The problem I see is that if we win out, it's very likely that we climb to the #5 or #4 position behind OSU, Indiana, and the SEC champ. If we lose another game, we likely lose a home playoff game. However, the highest priority should be getting into the right rhythm at the right time and let the chips fall where they may. Someone else noted that this could be a 3rd consecutive weather hampered game for OBD. This is good practice, because this is a very likely scenario for a mid-December home playoff game.
  5. And thank goodness for that! Thanks so much for your research and perspective, my Schedule-Maven friend!

  7. Oregon Ducks’ three keys to victory against Minnesota Golden Gophers If there’s one thing we know for sure about the Oregon Ducks, it’s the fact that they can win games in a wide variety of ways. We’ve seen them win a shootout against the Penn State Nittany Lions earlier in the year, who were still one of the best teams in the nation at the time. We’ve also seen them win lopsided blowouts against unranked teams and gritty, low-scoring games against others. Whenever you feel like you’ve gotten a beat on this Ducks team, they manage to throw you for a loop and do the opposite of what you’re expecting. Sure, they would have loved to be 9-0 and have easy wins in each game, but their many paths to victory could ultimately be more fruitful in the long run. Here is what Oregon needs to do this week to continue their winning ways against a talented Minnesota Golden Gophers team.

  10. DM, why not No. 5 with a home game vs a G6 opponent and the next game vs the 4 seed? Or, is No. 5 at 11-1 out of the question? Thank goodness, Iowa, as it should have, remained ranked, falling only one spot to 21. This sets up a top 25 battle in LA Saturday against 17 USC. USC -6.5. Either the win over Iowa is better, or OBD will play a top 15 seed on 11/22. UW will defeat Purdue on Saturday, and with the UCLA game in LA, should be 8-3 when OBD visits. USC is odds-on to be 8-2 when it visits Autzen, giving OBD the opportunity to finish with two solid wins. Helping the B1G would be Illinois defeating Maryland, Wisconsin in Madison, and Northwestern at home to finish 9-3 and likely ranked. Many SEC schedules are back-loaded. I think Bama gives OK its third loss this week, and Georgia will do the same to a Texas team that still has to play A&M. No. 15. 2-loss and too highly ranked IMO, Vandy finishes against TN in Knoxville. Either Vandy takes its 3rd loss, I'm giving the Dores a win over Kentucky, or Tennessee its 4th loss. Ole Miss should handle Florida and Mississippi State, but the Egg Bowl is in Starkville this season and is usually a closely contested game. For some reason, perhaps because it was on the road, or for no reason, the Ole Miss loss at No. 5 Georgia is better than OBD's loss against 2nd-ranked Indiana. Georgia? Wins against Texas and Georgia Tech in Atlanta are not certainties. And if Texas plays at home like it did against Oklahoma in Dallas, A&M could have its first loss. A&M plays South Carolina in Columbia on Saturday; the Gamecocks should have beaten Bama at home. I'm reasonably certain that Tennessee will defeat New Mexico State on Saturday, and A&M will handle Samford, not Stanford, a week from Saturday. The calculus changes next year when eight SEC teams will have one more loss than this season. It's November, chaos will ensue. And the top 4 seeds will most likely be different than what we see in the second set of rankings.
  11. I would love for OBD to be in the game and win it this year! I had a great time at it last year!! Take the B1G two straight years? HELL YES!!
  12. That is my favorite of this series!!

  17. Heck! I WANT to be on the Indiana side. This year would be Ohio St's "last year" for us. To have the opportunity to "right the wrong" done at Autzen before tearing through to the championship game. Plus maybe getting the chance to take down Alabama (Debour) and/or maybe Miami (Cristobal) along the way, well what do they say in the Mastercard commercials..."Priceless"! But first things first. Got us some gopher, trojan, and husky-dogs to pound down first! 🦆🏈🪨's
  18. I remember the "push" for conference championship games to bolster resumes and have true conference champions, instead of tie-breakers; to be the "chosen ones" in the BCS, two team playoffs. Now with 12 going to 16 playoff spots you will start to see NFL-lite teams "resting their starters" for the playoff run (similar to NFL-Heavy)rather than risk injury for what is increasingly becoming a consultation prize (a conference championship). I would really like for the conference championships be part of the playoffs, maybe like what has been mentioned before, winners get a bye and losers get home game against "the field", but you now have played one more game than "the field", whom would be off on their own byes, during the conference championship games. Not much incentive to risk being second in CCG. So, most likely they will go away, again, and "conference championships" based once again on win-loss records and tiebreakers, with uneven scheduling do to the size of the mega-leagues, will diminish the prize even more. Hope they can figure it out, cuz working towards a conference championship throughout the year makes the in season games more significant, and probably more entertaining (Oregon/Iowa last week), than simple win-loss records at the end of the year. Go Quackers!
  19. I don't think being the one seed was the problem last year as much as having tOSU being game one was. I think OBD would have beaten anybody and everybody else in the field last year. With that said my dream scenarios would be: Win the BIG and get a one or two seed. Get seeded 5-8 and get a home playoff game. Just get in the playoffs and hope for the best.
  20. I've determined that I'd like to see us end up with a No. 6 or No. 7 Seed....
  21. It's unlikely for us to make the game for sure. I would love to play it and win it but not at the expense of a better playoff run. The format needs to change for sure.
  22. I'd take 6 over 5. I would rather not be on Ohio State's side of the bracket. I think Ohio State will hold onto the No.1 spot as I don't see them losing this year to Michigan and I feel they would probably beat Indiana in the B1G title game. I'd take being on the Indiana side of the bracket for sure... I think we win in a rematch.
  23. Series history. Gophers 3 - 1. Some great names from the past in the series . . . Harrinton, Clemons, Parker Oregon Ducks and Golden Gophers series history
  24. Definitely not, there's nothing to be gained by losing or winning.
  25. I was think the same thing, getting to play the number 4 team if you wine sound so much better than playing tOSU at 1.
  26. I didn't think there was a question. You don't want to make the B1G Championship. It's an extra game with the chance to skip ahead to a slot that was 0-4 in last year's playoffs, or get beat badly enough to drop to a 9-12 seed play on the road slot. There's a world where coach Cig throws the game by blatantly resting his starters to keep them healthy and force the Playoff committee to discount the game enough that they stay a 5-8 seed. The conference championship games need to go in this current format. There needs to be a single bye week for each team in either the 6th or 7th week a single bye week after the 12th game then a single week of conference play-in games, no playoff byes for anyone. I hope Oregon wins out and stays in the 5-8 seed for a home game after a single bye week, same as their opponent. That's the best case scenario in this current format.
