  2. I wonder if the loser of the Ohio State vs Indiana game falls to four if Georgia and Texas Tech win. If that happens, and Oregon draws the five, that would pit Oregon vs one of them in the quarters.
  3. College Football Playoff Rankings projection: Alabama, Miami fuel at-large debate ahead of penultimate top 25 The CFP Selection Committee will reveal its latest batch of top 25 rankings Tuesday night
  4. How Stein Departing for Kentucky Could Impact Dante MooreOn3How Stein Departing for Kentucky Could Impact Dante MooreWill Stein is leaving for Kentucky. Dante Moore's future at Oregon could have major implications on Dan Lanning's next hire.
  5. Curious why you think this. From the little I’ve seen of North Texas, they run a spread offense with the QB in the shotgun and seem to hit a lot of big passes down the field. I also saw a lot of 2 back formations and some RPO plays. I didn’t see many heavy sets or QB under center, in my very limited observations, but perhaps that is something that Lanning would insist he added.
  6. There’s also Mack Leftwich, the Texas Tech OC. I think his system would integrate well into what Oregon already does. He also uses some veer and shoot sets.

  8. Oregon DC Tosh Lupoi is reportedly a candidate for the Cal head coaching job, while OC Will Stein's name is popping up for Kentucky.
  9. I would expect Ohio State, Indiana and Georgia to all remain in the the top 4, unless the games are lopsided loses. If BYU beats Texas Tech (unlikely) then I could see Oregon sneaking into the top 4 in the final college football playoffs rankings (to the chagrin of ESPN and the SEC). My preference would be to be ranked #5 and host the first round playoff game with only a 3 week layoff.
  10. I’m sure that Lanning had a deal with Smart. IIRC, Lanning was also not allowed to recruit for Georgia after he accepted the Oregon HC position. I’m sure the same will apply to Stein.
  11. Jeff Tedford also stayed on for Oregon’s bowl game after he was hired by Cal and IIRC that was the Fiesta Bowl where Oregon absolutely roasted Colorado. You can do both, if you are committed, and I would rather have Coach Stein calling plays in the playoffs than someone else. I thank and wish Stein the best. He has been a great OC for Oregon and I hope he has success at Kentucky.
  12. David, you are absolutely right that nothing has changed in the CFP selection process. This year the goal posts get moved weekly, mainly to serve the SEC, ESPN and the rest of the mouth pieces. Along with a mini crush on the little 12. How many 12 trams could go into Iowa, Michigan, Washington or USC and win? One example: When Oregon had close wins, we saw them drop in the rankings. The Aggies escaped a home game loss againts the high school team from South Carolina and did not drop a spot. Yes they stayed undefeated but the committee gave them lavish praise for the comeback. BS. Would like to know how many committee mrmbers have watched an entire Duck game? Next year 1/2 of the SEC teams will have one more loss and 1/2 will have the same win total without their 3rd or 4th cupcake on their schedule. The bias CFP committee has out lived its purpose. Go Ducks.....
  13. Next moves for Oregon... Autzen ZooRipples, repercussions, recruiting and next moves for Ore...Dan Lanning is a superb judge of coaching talent. He's made one home run hire after another.

  16. We are in the second year of the 12-team playoff, and still the playoff formula hasn’t changed from the BCS era. The formula is simple: play your schedule and don’t lose. Sounds simple, right? Just win out and you’re in, and the best teams should win out. In theory that makes sense, but the reality is that not all schedules ... The Playoff Formula Hasn't Changed
  17. Oregon pulling off what Ohio State did last year. Avenge that one loss vs the Hoosiers in the quarters, you gotta know Dan thinks about that.
  18. Not having to play in the conference championship game, and getting a bye would be a big advantage imo. I think Indiana would have to beat Ohio State, Alabama would have to beat Georgia, and BYU would have to beat Texas Tech for Oregon to get that path. Georgia has an Alabama problem, so I could see the Tide winning. Indiana is coached well enough to beat Ohio State, I don't like their chances in doing it twice though. Last, and probably the longest shot, is BYU beating Texas Tech. BYU has been playing with fire the last part of their schedule. Being down by two touchdowns to UCF, Cincy, and Iowa State. Sandwiched between getting their doors blown off at home vs Texas Tech.
  19. I was hoping Stein would stay out of the SEC. I think he's going to do more with less at Kentucky. That program allocates about 75 percent of their shared revenue budget on basketball. Stein will develop an offense, and convert three stars into all league performers. I was hoping he'd go to Cal, UCLA, or Oklahoma State. Is Cal looking at Lupoi?
  20. Yeah, he already has a job. But a Natty (as everyone calls it now) never looks bad on the resume.
  21. Lanning showed you can still win a natty with one foot out the door so to speak. Not sayin' Will Stein is Dan Lanning, but I'd rather keep the continuity through the playoffs than go with someone who's never called plays before.
  22. It’s on B1G network in the 60 minute version with all the wasted time removed. Still has every play. And, some replays.
  23. I saw that pick play from a mile away. It’s not surprising how many “good” plays result from penalties. It drives me crazy when commentators lament that a holding or other penalty called back a good play. The “good play” could only have happened with the penalty.
  24. From my perspective the Bye is preferable. At #3, Georgia was set up for that. They gain nothing by playing Alabama in the SEC title game (without their all-SEC center no less), and should they lose after having to play this extra game, they could possibly fall far enough to be on the road in the first round of the playoffs. That would be a severe penalty for the "honor" of playing for the SEC Championship IMHO.
  25. Don't know how likely this would be but this guy would be a real coup. He was a star offensive analyst behind the curtain for Georgia's two recent Natties (with OC Todd Monken perhaps getting more credit than he deserved, though he was good). He deserves a lot of credit for molding a mid-level talent base into a formidable offense at Georgia Tech, This is a hire I could get behind enthusiastically.
