  2. I guess they're taking their ball and going home crying🤣. They only hurt themselves, they will be totally off the radar and lose a months worth of practices (assuming this is still not allowed for non-bowl teams). I do agree however, that this system is a bit stupid. G5 teams do not play at the same level as P4 teams, period. Sure they get a win every now and then against P4 teams, but having two G5 teams as part of "the 12 best" defies logic. The committee did what they had to including JMU, but this just isn't an accurate seeding. The G5 needs their own playoff, there's plenty of interest and of course $ to be made. We know changes are coming, home games in the second round would be a great first step. This is now officially a playoff and the bowl system is going the way of the 8-track tape.
  3. I stopped watching and listening after No. 5 announced and our opponent. My wine tolerance is steroidal in nature compared to my lack of whine tolerance.
  4. Ok great this is a favorable path to the final four, no question. That said, as a season ticket holder I was hoping for a better matchup. Even Tulane would be more interesting, but to think that we could have had Alabama or Miami in Autzen if we were ranked a little lower makes me wonder how much of an advantage (at least for the fans) it really is to be seeded higher. Don't get me wrong, I'll be there, but we'll be paying a premium price for the equivalent of a September cupcake game.
  5. You may have noticed that I am not "hovering" over the forum like I usually do, in fact I have been MIA for up to a complete day at a time lately. Like many of you--I have work projects and commitments to attend to, as well as the background stuff that has to be done for the two sites. And frankly, it is going to get much worse over time thus... THANK YOU for Posting New Threads! I really appreciate many of you starting new threads for discussion, and I want to say thanks, and to encourage everyone to join in. To start a thread and write a title....please remember two things with a title: First, web metrics tell us that readers will not open a thread unless they know what is in it in advance. So please don't give us a nebulous title that could mean anything; you want people to read your thread, so tell us what the topic is about, and people will open and read your thread. Below are great examples... Penn State AD Pat Kraft Despises Oregon by DrJacksPlaidPants...Not only did he tell us the topic, but he made it tasty, and you can't help but want to open it immediately. B1G Championship Game Thread by OregonDucks...He got the GameDay thread started of what we wanted to discuss, and I very much appreciate it as I was detained elsewhere when the game began. Second....Please, please Capitalize the first letter of every major word in the title. You can leave the inconsequential words, (as, and, the, in, etc.) in lower case, but putting caps on the rest helps other good people like YOU find this forum from Search Engines. A great example... Myriad of Topics: Notre Dame, Sixteen Team CFP, and G6 Representation by GatOrlando...This is perfect across the board, and no surprise as GatOrlando has been an MVP on this forum with his posting and insights. With that...we have SO MANY great OBD members who post so well, and not only do I thank you, but urge you to keep doing so. We all have each others' back here, and I sure am grateful that so many people step up to help. You Been So Good to Me...
  6. The committee finally put Miami ahead of Notre Dame because the media pundits started to really call them out for their BS. They had no choice. They would’ve looked like biased idiots if they hadn’t switched them. I’ve always been of the opinion that championship game competitors shouldn’t be punished for losing if they would’ve gotten in without playing. However, Bama has been the beneficiary of getting into the old four team format with even winning their division, so I think they should’ve been left out. OU or Indiana will keep them from playing us which is kind of unfortunate.
  7. The committee is factoring in injured players but not only playing 8 conference games? They should be personalized for a late season cupcake team as the other conferences take 50% losses. There's really only one way to make all of this not so subjective and that to move to a NFL style playoff by cutting these mega conferences down to where everyone plays each other in the conference. This is compound when you only play 8 games conference games. Let Alabama in but then get rid of T A&M. Letting the SEC have almost half the playoff spots is a positive feedback loop that just magnifies the narrative that the SEC is so dominant, they certainly weren't in last year's playoff despite what ESPN said.
  8. Today
  9. Florida State , and Ohio State thought about doing that two years ago. They might as well, most of the starters opted out, and they were playing in the Orange and Cotton Bowl respectively .Michigan had several opt outs last year against Alabama, and eventual number one pick Cam Ward sat out the second half of a bowl game, right after he set a personal record. The team blew the lead, and the game in the second half. Bowl games are meaningless to brand names, even as they are sponsored by brand names. Dukes Mayo, Cheezit, and Pop Tart ,are now actual bowl games. It isn't the Rose Bowl presented by____, it's just____ Bowl.
  10. And the Bucknuts have now had their wake up call. F**k, another purple & gold clad team? Makes it already easier to despise them.
  11. ND is refusing to play in a bowl game. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2025/12/07/notre-dame-football-declines-bowl-game-cfp-college-football-playoff/87659994007/
  12. I was hoping BYU would've gotten in. Their best win was against Utah. They lost twice, both to Tech. If it wasn't by blowout on Saturday, I think they would've gotten more consideration. I'm still confused as to if the committee punished BYU for something they said they wouldn't punish them for. Alabama kept thirteen guys out for rest, so they must've had an inkling that they were safe regardless. The only thing I can think of is that Alabama beat Georgia on the road already. BYU never beat Tech, and their Utah win wasn't as good as Alabama beating Georgia, and Vanderbilt. It's not about who you lost to. It's about who you beat. As long as you don't have three losses heading in CCG Saturday.
  13. I don't know which way would make me happier: if Notre Dame did not get in or if Miami did not get in.
  14. As long as we accept that there has been a sea change in how officials interpret OL holding, we’re going to see the time for more and better thrown deep balls. Given that, I’m inclined to withhold judgement on Thomas until next year. And, I tend towards someone whose’s motivated to be a Duck.
  15. I think it is likely to go to 16. number 17 is so low on the totem pole, that nobody will care if they don't get in (But they will still cry) Tech will get a bye and then most likely have to play Oregon, so they will be playing a better team after getting a bye, just like Oregon did last year vs Ohio St. That feels like more of a punishment than a reward. Too much crying from the SEC some of the automatic bids are not as good of teams as some of the at larges that don't get in Crying from Notre Dame Losers of conf champ games complicating who gets in Any more than 16 is just too many - this isn't basketball, players get banged up and injured Nobody cares about bowl games anymore, except maybe Beaver fans and Boise St fans Going to 16 could let in some teams that could be having good seasons for them, like an Iowa, Minnesota, South Carolina, Vanderbuilt etc. that otherwise would have a hard if not impossible task of making it in - its good for football to let some new kids come to the party. (not saying those teams would be in this year, but those are kind of teams that could squeak in with a 16 team playoff and never have much of a real chance with 12) And the reason NOT to do it is because nbr 1 vs 16 would be a blood bath.
  16. Once again I am surprised at what we value as fans. Brock came in with no fanfare from pundits. Not many stars after his name. Only offered by Montana St and Portland St. (Maybe a couple others) and our head coach, whom we all trust, says he won OUTRIGHT the qb2 backup spot in practice. And we all doubt it?I thought it was "in Lanning we trust". We trust scouting by writers over what our coach sees?! Btw, Justin Herbert was also an under the radar player, as was Marcus Mariota. They ended up being pretty good. I don't mean to be rude, but I trust DL and WS more than writers or pundits. Will Dante go pro? Will any QB transfer? Will we pick up a QB from the portal? Inquiring minds want to know. These and other questions need to be answered while we are playing for a National championship! CFB is now in the twilight zone. Right now I've got James Madison on my mind. And if our coaches are happy with BT as QB2, I'm jiggy with it.
  17. The G6 conference champs are fine for inclusion the way I see it. They played their schedules and came out the other side conference champs and based on the system they get in. The ACC champs failed to take care of business along the way and should be grateful they have Miami representing them at all. Bama probably shouldn't be in but the committee positioned them as such that they were going to be in no matter what. Notre Dame probably deserves to be in but not over Miami. If they were in the ACC they probably would have won the conference and we wouldn't have this conversation. Notre Dame just needs to join a conference already. But the 16 team playoff probably will enable them to stay independent. The B1G should probably have another team in the field too much cannibalism for that to happen. Truly competitive conferences are not rewarded for being competitive as we all know from the Pac-12.
  18. In response to comments #14 and #16, Mendoza was good enough to beat OSU last night, with a lot of help from his defense. Mendoza made some beautiful throws, especially to Becker on fourth and short. Thomas's body of work is limited, so it is hard to reach any firm conclusions about his potential. I recall that he threw one "frozen rope" to the sideline of about twenty yards that led me to think that his arm strength is better than I thought. He also made an ill-advised throw on the run that nearly resulted in a costly interception. The problem there was judgment not physical talent. I admit that he is short, but he has excellent speed. I am not suggesting he is the permanent solution. I do not know.
  19. I will say in looking at the bracket, Oregon's path seems easier than if they were the 6th seed. Not taking ANYTHING away from Indiana, they have already beaten us and are extremely formidable. That 6th seed though, you have to go through Georgia and probably Ohio State. I won't say what Danny Kanell said about the Ducks and their path because I might be a little superstitious, but it rhymes with Rational Mamps.
  20. •Well, Oregon is hosting James Madison in a playoff game. Indiana is the one seed, after beating Ohio State for the first time in my lifetime, and Vanderbilt has a legitimate gripe about being left out of the CFP. All things we predicted eh? •Okay, we have two rematches in round one, and a potential rematch most of my OBD friends would relish. Ole Miss trounced Tulane in September, and is hosting them again. Oklahoma handled Alabama for the second straight year, and is now hosting them again. If Oregon and Indiana keep winning, we'll get a rematch that I know most Duck fans crave. • SEC fan bases, and coaches, most notably Kirby Smart last night, have criticized Greg Sankey for going to a nine game conference slate. Causing most to think a sixteen team format is going to be pressed this off-season. • Notre Dame got passed up by Miami for the last CFP at large slate. Most aren't mad about the Hurricanes passing them up, considering the week one game result, in which Miami beat Notre Dame. But there is confusion as to how the teams swapped positions without either playing. Some say the committee didn't want the ACC to have zero teams after five loss Duke beat Virginia in the ACC title game. But that shouldn't happen, if Miami was better than Notre Dame, they should've been ahead of them. Their ranking shouldn't be dependent on a game that their merit has no effect on. It's dumb. Notre Dame would've been better if Virginia won, but Miami is better because Duke won? After all, past the required five conference champions. The field should be filled with the best seven at large teams. • There is going to be an expansion imo. BYU, and Notre Dame are going to demand it. They both have a lot of money. We all know what matters to college football. Texas and Vanderbilt are going to cry to Sankey. Sankey is going to cry to the committee, and despite getting five teams in, the SEC is going to yell about James Madison getting in over Texas, and Vanderbilt. Especially with all the crying about a nine game conference slate. I think Greg should go with the Petiti play in model.
  21. I love that OBD is the PO 5th seed and is -21.5 vs. JMU. What a reversal, thank goodness, from last season's PO opener. Defeat JMU on the 20th, and it's a terrific break to play Texas Tech in the Orange and not the Cotton Bowl. Notre Dame, hoist on its independent petard. Too bad, so sad. In the ACC as a football member or in the B1G, and ND is likely in the PO. Bama? No way was the committee going to penalize a Bama team with the nation's top SOS for losing a conference championship game, especially with so many starters not able to play yesterday. If Bama is healthy, I think the Tide has a chance to roll over an over-ranked OK team that it significantly outgained in the regular season loss. Keep Those Machines Turned Off! Beat the Dukes! 😁
  22. Above, Mike West comments about quarterback capability to throw 45 yard laser shots down the sideline. OBD fans have seen Dante Moore execute those throws with precision frequently. If we set that as the standard for our starting QB, we’re going to be sadly disappointed. I watched Fernando Mendoza start for Cal at Cal four years ago. He was impressive. I expect him to win the Heisman. His arm is strong and accurate. He does not make the passes Dante makes. I have watched all the quarterbacks in playoffs. None throw like Dante. Justin Herbert does.
  23. I believe I just saw that ISU and KSU both declined bowl invitations and that when dipping down to 5-7 teams for bowl selections, academic scores will be considered. Side note, bowls need to go.
  24. I hope all the SEC qualifiers lose their first game over the next few weeks!
  25. Brace yourself. With the SEC switching to 9 conference games next year there will be at least one 3 loss team making it every year moving forward, imo.
