Unless you have NFL calibure secondary. Ducks were down a solid corner and an absolute Dude in the box. But it was the safety position that was exploited the most. Laulea should be a huge help.

Oregon is capable. Ducks have the staff, infrastructure and talent. A lot of that talent is young. Lanning has seemed to have reloaded this team for 24' with another TP window in the spring. Back to back top 10 classes is a big deal. If Lanning can continue with what is becoming a trend, Oregon will reload year to year. Is it probable? The only thing I can base an opinion on is the fact that they never have won the NC. I would have to say mostly improbable. Many here, including me, thought this would be the year. The word special was often used to describe the 23' Ducks. Oregon had a good season but didn't win the conference or make the CFP. Lanning needs to prove he can win big games before I jump on the "probable" bandwagon. So far he hasn't won one. Hopefully Lanning sticks around and becomes a Kirby, Sabin, DeBoer type of coach. I definitely think he has that type of ceiling. Ducks need to start with winning that elusive first big game imo.

Right! And your earlier post is valid and needs to be taken seriously as well. It is essentially the off season. And with it came toughts and feelings I didn't anticipate. Many more of us will come to these same feelings on the subject. I agree this thread topic is layered far beyond recruiting alone. I immediately went there almost involuntarily. I didn't expect that. We can celebrate the fact that Lanning is doing a great job acquiring talent. We can also celebrate that players are profiting off NIL, wich they themselves own. We can celebrate more parity across the board with TP. Mike makes great points for sure. But there doesn't seem to be any guidance in any of this. Anything goes free for all never ends well. This won't either unless some adults step up and set some boundaries. More 100+ year old conferences will be disolved. womens college athletics will be put at risk. Non-revenu sports will be put at risk. Players will be pushed out with nothing to show for it, promises of an education from the university that pitched these players to commit will be broken. And on and on. All for what? Power and wealth. Sorry to rain on anyones happy day but we as fans have skin in this game as well. I have purchased tickets, bought merch and cheered this sport for almost a half a century. I have a lifetime invested and it's foolish to discount that. I am not the only fan that feels this way. A lot of people are going to be hurt in this trasition to profesional football. And if they destroy it... then what? Everyone loses imo.

Yea, I feel this way. I try not too but finding it difficult. Two years ago it seemed all I heard was "We don't want him, play our guy!". Now what I hear is " our guy is a bum, throw him out!". I admit it probably isn't an accurate depiction of what is said. But it is what I hear, what translates from ear to brain. It sucks and is a huge turn off to me. I fight it but can't seem to shake it. I love college football. Been a fan for over 40 years. Since a few weeks ago and "throw the bum out", I have struggled being passionate about the game I have loved for years. Connection it appears, is being severed. Thanks for bringing this up. I have been trying to say the same things and have been pushed back on pretty hard. This is just my thoughts and opinions. It's how it feels to me and I don't like it. In no way is it an attack on anyone on OBDF or OBD. I can't be alone and I think a lot of folks are going to walk away from college football. I am really struggling not to. Sad!

I often wonder about this. I question weather coaches know better. Sure they have a ton more information. Gives them the advantage. But there are folks like you and many others here that have huge football brains. Places like this attract such people. It's probably true that coaches know more/better just from the volume of information. But man I question it at times

I used the word many. I have no idea if a majority think this. Many is not a distinctive number. Moore played in nine games, clearly more than TT. His stats are cringe worthy. 9 pics, 22 sacks, lost fumbles, missed reads. Some of these kinds of performance claims are made in opposition to Ty. It's often said here greatness appears early. TT played, practiced, studied, worked out and matured for 3 years in a college system. Clearly more than Donte Moore. So imo experience, in this case anyways, is subjective. Absolutly true. The only thing TT wasn't afforded was playing time. Something that could have very well been the missing piece for development of Thompson. Moore got that out of necessity at UCLA. Oregon had Bo Nix, a player that was on stage in NY. There was no way Thompson was getting snaps with a Heisman candidate in front of him. Now Oregon got an opportunity and signed a player that was at one time a Heisman candidate in 23'. Can't blame anyone in the Oregon prog'm for pulling the trigger on that. That left TT out in the cold. He had no choice but to TP. Ty got a raw deal, mainly one of circumstance. It sucks and its hard to point a finger at a difinitive reasoning with authority for the lack of success of Ty's time at Oregon. Absolutly! Stein engineered, with help, one of the most prolific offenses in the country. I cheered them along in every game enthusiastically. I can be as big a fan boy as anyone. But the record shows, at least recently, Oregon has not developed a QB recruit into an adequate P5 starter. I think that reality if fair game for fans to debate and ponder imo. Maybe that changes with Moore. Until Oregon shows they are capable, I am not going to beat the fan boy drum on development. I am going to be critical. In closing, Sports are a lot of fun to talk about. It provides mutiple layers of truths to disect and discuss. Many times two conflicting realities can be true. Many times, things aren't always as they appear. On paper doesn't dictate winners or losers. I truly appreciate your polite disagreement Charles. It gave me much to ponder and comment on

Seems many here think Moore is a less experienced TT. Thats interesting. I have no opinion on Moore yet. He went 11td to 9 int as a true freshman but that should be set aside for now imo. We will see if Oregon can do a 180⁰ and develope young talent at QB. So far they haven't shown they can. This young staff is 0-1 so far but they are young so perhaps a little leash will be extended.

That puts Oregon at #39 in TP. Ducks have been quiet compared to years past. But no worries, Lanning can strike fast.

It's over a 9 year stretch. In my opinion, that points directly at coaching. It also points to the program as a whole as they have had no continuity over the last 9 years. The previous two coaches have used Oregon to get to their prized school. We will see with Lanning. Just my thought but both these coaches, Dilly and Stein, are both very young. It appears both are good QB coaches but I don't know that enough time on the job shows that to be an absolute.

Thanks for the article Ryan. I have been saying this for a bit now. I agree, it doesn't appear that Oregon is capable of developing a HS QB. A decade of failing to do so is proof of that imo. In that decade Oregon has mostly 3-4 loss records. There are a couple 2 loss seasons. Trying to forget about 4-8 in 2016. Since MM went to the league, Oregon has been conference champs twice (19', 20'). 2020 was a 4-3 season due to covid year. No Playoff invites and a 3-4 bowl record. Pretty mediocre results imo. Sure... more goes into these results than lack of QB development. But that lack of development plays a part. It is concerning that Oregon can't develope a QB to power 5 starting levels. Ducks seem to be of the mindset that transfer QB's are the recipes for success. But the record seemingly says something different. Oregon hasn't won but 2 conf titles and a couple bowl games in this QB teansfer era. Again, I get it that much more is involved in mediocrity than just the QB position. Coaching changes, covid and many other factors play a part. My hope is that this changes soon. I can't expect different results than mediocrity until then. I would love to see a recruited QB take the starting job and ball out. Dillon Gabriel has stated OU will always be home. He is a Sooner by his own admission. He will strap up the Green and Yellow, but will he truly be a Duck? Dante Moore stated he wants to transfer to a place he can be developed. Is that place Oregon? A pretty sizeable body of evidence suggests otherwise. The pressure to win now is strong. So I have no reason to believe this trend will change. Maybe the Ducks will become elite regardless. But I have my doubts and the record seems to confirm it.

I am not sure thats the direction this is going. Many are saying signing experienced proven QB's are what is needed year in/out in the new TP era. Nothing takes place of live snaps in QB development. It is required for a QB to reach their ceiling with very few exceptions. Yes, greatness shows early, but you still have to be forged and pressed in order to reach that top range. In this "experienced and proven" environment, I doubt a guy like Darren Thomas plays as he did freshman year and gains that experience. Most likely Oregon goes into TP and he transfers out to get snaps. DT is one of the most loved Ducks of all time. He spent 3 years grinding for Oregon. As did MM and JH and so many others. Do we lose that? Nix won the hearts of Duck fans. He had 2 years to do it and he is easy to love on and off the field. I could see greatness in Nix through the murkyness that was Auburn. Gabriel has one year. I hope he balls out and Oregon fan falls in love with the guy on and off the field. It's part of what makes the college experience so great, different from the Pro experience. How do you feel about Popo, Dorlus or JPJ vs. Burch, Cornelius or Jacobs? How I think of Ifo is different than how I think about Gonzalez. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu is kind of a bad example, just speaking a name like that is super fun This is a new era and change has happened rapidly. Something I will have to get used to and embrace if I am going to continue to be a fan of the college game.
