  1. (Note from Mr. FishDuck: I have pinned this because of the nature of sports, social media and human nature these days, and what is contained in post No. 6 below)

I remember the idea of good sportsmanship being drummed into us starting in grade school. You weren't supposed to whine and complain if you lost, nor brag if you won.

Sorry if this makes me a fossil, but I don't enjoy the trash talking, etc. in today's sports.

Annie, do you and other Ducks CBB fans think that the program is being adequately funded and marketed? The attendance vs Wisconsin was telling but so were Altman's comments in regard to Wisconsin spending the money to bring its band and cheerleaders west for an NIT game.

Per Wilner, based on results vs money invested the Oregon Athletic Department finished 8th in the Pac-12 last season in ROI.

    ...

This will make me sound like a relic, but I think the lack of a local paper that at one time would have had pages devoted to the UO NIT is one factor. Even pre-game coverage on TV didn't seem to be particularly prevalent. Yes, it was the NIT, not the NCAA, but it was still post-season play. So a lack of marketing, be it from lack of funding or changing times, was most likely a factor.

  3. On the one  hand, I'd hate to see it. Basically, I hate change. And I don't want to see the demise of the PAC-however-many.

On the other hand, it could mean games for Oregon would start at a reasonable hour, since the biggies in the big would not want their games starting at 10 pm  or later their time.

...  You are correct though to point out that the 10PM EST timeslot is where most companies see the PACs value mostly due to very limited competition due to NCAA rules.

To me that means that PAC-12 are the spillover that gets mopped up and squeezed out over the late hours for a few drops of water. Or, to stay with nourishment comparisons, like crumbs being swept off the counter in order to put them on a plate for late-night consumption.

Of course they could do away with some of the TV time outs, but we know that won't happen.

Or at least shorten them. Right now they last anywhere from about 2.5-3.5 minutes. On the other hand, when I'm at the game, that does give me enough time to zip to the bathroom or the concession stand and get back in my seat before the game starts up again.

Local news just said that DA will not be charging him. So, should he have been let go so swiftly?

I wondered about this. On the one hand, the charges were so serious--on the other hand, maybe it would be more prudent to wait a bit to see if the DA would charge him. If it's just that there's not enough proof, that's one thing. If the DA decided that it's likely he's innocent, that's another. Would he be asked to rejoin the team, and, if so, would he accept?

Okay, just heard he's been exonerated. So, what happens next?

It would have been seized as evidence.  Even with no charges filed the police keep everything that could pertain as charges might be filed.  If no charges are forthcoming it still takes more than a month to get property back from an evidence clerk.  If charges are filed, he would have to be acquitted to get it back.  If he's convicted it's stored as evidence through appeals until eventually it gets destroyed.

    Thanks, good to know!

  8. These parts of the article sounds promising to me:...

...has experience as a player, competing at the Power 5 level on the offensive line.

...His relationships with our current and past student-athletes are unmatched, and his reputation as a teacher precedes him....

As a graduate assistant with the Ducks in 2019, Terry worked with an Oregon offensive line that included a trio of all-Americans in Penei Sewell, Shane Lemieux and Calvin Throckmorton. Sewell was awarded the Outland Trophy as the top interior lineman in the country, and joined Marcus Mariota and LaMichael James as the only unanimous all-Americans in program history at the time.

Terry helped the Ducks to a 12-2 overall record, a Pac-12 Championship and a Rose Bowl victory in 2019, and the offensive line was one of four finalists for the Joe Moore Award as the nation's most outstanding offensive line unit. Oregon also dominated the Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week award with eight winners in 12 weeks, including a league-high four honors for Sewell and two each for Lemieux and Throckmorton.
