I don’t look forward to it if Dilly has ASU scoring 40 ppg, and DL hasn’t improved the defense.
I am trying to remember--what was the general opinion of the Oregon defensive players before the season started? I'm thinking there was some concern, but really don't recall for sure.

I have to say, that while I like the Rose Bowl tradition, I do not like the stadium itself. The steps, at least where I've sat, are worn, uneven, bordering on dangerous, and the bathrooms and concession stands are old and inconveniently located. Not sure what exactly what sort of status the Rose Bowl game will have in the future with the RB being left out of the CFP.

Since the Holiday Bowl is in San Diego, that, to me, makes it a fun, worthwhile bowl.

Just a gut feeling on my part, but I don't see that happening. I think they trust DL to find a new OC, who I am guessing will be younger, not older.

Perhaps with a capable punter and special teams that are actually special, different decisions will be made.
I yearn for the day that special teams are indeed positively special.

Lanning did talk about watering the bamboo and it taking five years to grow. Ducks have started out with a pretty good record for his first year, so growth and improvement from that watering should yield good results.

Also... A healthy Nix would have won both games which also shows just how fragile this Oregon team is. Our defense wasn't going to win many games on their own and needed the offense the carry.
Yes, this!

it feels like every year we drop one or two to a team that is inferior (either roster or W/L record) that we had no business losing to.
I think that's been true in the recent past, but losing to uw and osu this year, not so much. They both have winning records, 10-2 and 9-3. Different than losing, in the past, to a 3-9 Stanford team last year or to a 1-3 Cal team (2020).

Annie,
I don't know if this is the answer, but I know that TV is more conservative and careful than radio and what you might be hearing is a 30 second delay put on the TV broadcast as a safeguard to allow a last second edit in case something might get on aIr that was not supposed to be there. Example, some unruly, perhaps intoxicated fan yelling something obscene that the audio equipment picks up. If that were to happen, the TV engineers could edit it out and the audience would never know.
Just a thought
Could be. I was just surprised at how long the delay was, at least in this instance. I walked from one end of the house where the radio was on to the other end of the house where the TV was on, and the TV was still behind quite a bit. If there had been anyone else in the room at the moment I could have looked like a genius in "predicting" what would happen on the next play.
-
I know that radio is usually a few seconds ahead of the TV in the games, but I had the radio on in the bedroom and when I went back out into the living room the TV coverage was still behind by about 30 seconds. I know they had some power supply problems in Corvallis and at the stadium, so maybe that was it, but I'm sure the time difference is usually not that much.

The trophy for the game formerly known as the civil war has been a platypus since 1959.

The Platypus Cup really is the most fitting name for the game IMHO, even better than civil war.
It highlights the silly, nature-loving, Oregonian culture of both Ducks and Beavs.
And yet, the platypus trophy keeps getting "lost." Someone doesn't want it found, either, I suspect. Have to say, I'm not a fan of the platypus trophy or name for the game.

In another thread, EZDucksIt suggested the Rally in the Valley. I like that one!

Under Coach Bellotti, Oregon lost an OC every couple of years to take head coaching positions. At one point, it seemed as though half of the Pac-10 coaches were former Oregon OCs.
It's one of the consequences of a successful program and is better than the alternative.Yes, definitely true, though I was thinking more of assistants such as Zoomer, Campbell, etc. who were here for so many years. I do remember Borges leaving after one year in a parallel move to OC at UCLA and I seem to remember that Belloti was ticked about that.

This. Players and former players play the game, and they are the ones who asked for the name change.

While this is quite true, I think of the years that so many long-ago Duck assistants stayed, perhaps because they weren't getting big offers to leave, but I think liking being position coaches, liking living in Eugene was part of it too.

Since the Willamette Valley is known for wineries, how about The Wine Country War?

Alabama used to play The Citadel near the end of the season every year. So not much has changed.

Yes, trick plays worked against weaker teams such as CO and CAL. Against better teams, not so much--especially when backed up against your own end zone.

It doesn't bother me when coaches play the injury game. I don't bet on the games, and I attend the games regardless of who is predicted to start. Only night starting times keep me away and in front of my TV.

If Bo can't play tomorrow, then maybe (insert eerie music) Butterfield will step up and win the day, having been the hidden secret weapon all along.

Is a "Bandwagon" Fan Still an Oregon Fan?
in Our Beloved Ducks

Then there are what I would call Reverse Bandwagon fans. That is, they don't say anything or post anything until the Ducks have a loss or two. Then they seem to come out of the woodwork to complain and criticize.
