  1. It would be helpful for us older fans with full memory banks to put the words on the big screen. I've seen T shirts with the verses printed on the back, but alass they never sit in front of me. I do well with the National Anthem and America the Beautiful and the verses of Matts Wayward Son and of course Shout, but the Duck Fight song eludes me without some prompting.

That particular cubicle in my memory bank is still occupied with Springfield Millers fight song. "Midst the many schools and colors. old Springield is the best. From the Atlantic to the Pacific she's the pride of all the West. We will sing of all her heros and dautless athlets too. We will cheer her ever onward as we wave the White and Blue."

  2. In the 28 years of season tickets we have managed to visit 8 of the Pac 12 venues.  Unfortunately with the demise of the Pac 12  there is no longer a reason to see Standford, Colorado or Tempe. I like to drive and my travel mantra has been " I'll go anyplace for two good reasons". The reasonably compact region of the Pac allowed us to drive to most of the campuses in two days, but being older now is why we never made the bonzi runs to Colorado or Tempe.

With the expanse of our new conference travel plans will necessitate flying, an added expense for us old retired fans. We have long had the Henry Ford Museum on our bucket list so maybe we can work out a trip to Ann Arbor. There is also a great Hot Rod racing museum in Lincoln that has doubled in size since we were there 25 years ago. In our travels we have visited or passed thru 49 states with only Hawaii left to see. You think I'm pissed about the cancelation of that game.

  3. Dan Lanning is an expert commentator on ESPN Gameday. Asked and answered serious questions about Washington and Michigan. I got the feeling he thinks Huskeys can handle Michigan. Exposure for Lanning was great. Got highest respect from the Gameday guys.

  4. We too were hoping to travel to Hawaii for the game. It is a week after our 44 anniversary. We have visited 49 states with only Hawaii remaining on the bucket list. My sister is my seat buddy at Autzen, she wants to go and her daughter is in real estate on the island. We are hoping she has contacts to get tickets.

I googled UH and it appears that there is room to add additional bleachers around the field. If they can squeeze in another 10,000 seats at $50 each that would be a cool half million dollars in their coffers. How many Duck fans want to invade paradise? Let's GO.

  5. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY DUCK BUDDIES!

This is my favorite thread today next to Dan "the pan" the Steakman. Charles, I'm glad that you are learning to cook but brings the question. "What line were you standing in when the rest of us got our BBQ card?"

    No photo description available.

This is Ruby, short for Rhubarb. Her color is not Garfield orange, not red, almost rhubarb. I sometimes call her "Ruby, Rhubarb, Barbara Ann Wilson Kardashian.

Ba...Ba..Ba..Ba Barbara Ann Wilson for the Beach Boys, Kardashian because when she sits facing away her spread is obvious we have been feeding her to much.

This picture was taken last year. she was just past her kitten stage. She has grown some, hense the Kardashian moniker, but lucky for her my belly is still big enough for her to curl up and nap.

  6. Thank You Charles. I heartily agree with all that Kamikaze wrote. The after hours  smaller group was excellent for one on one conversation It was great that NJduck and his family made it out for the game, it was nice to meet you and your wife and son.

On a personal note I enjoyed the after hours discussion on health and food. Talking about our personal situations brings us closer together as fellow human beings. P.S. The brownies were mediorce, not worth cheating on the diet.

  7. As mentioned visit Hayward Field, your first visual impression will be "It's Amazing". If it's open there is a great little track and field museum on the north east corner. South on Agate St is a pod of taverns and restaurants on 19th St. McMenamins, Studio One, Agate Alley ( they have a Bloody Mary bar on Sunday), Beppe & Gianni's Italian and pizza and others across the street.

Near Mathew Knight Arena to the east is The Wild Duck recently reopened and owned by an Oregon football player. Lots of UO memorabilia. South across Franklin Blvd is Track Town Pizza.

Around the corner from the Book Store is Rennies Landing a favorite student hangout. West on 13th is Max's Tavern a long time dive bar.

Downtown is 5th St. Market, Walking distance to Autzen across the footbridge, There are food pods and interesting shops, across the street is the Market Alley. Nike Shop is on the corner. Wine and whiskey tasting in the shops and the best ice cream in town. Top of the Gordon Hotel is Carlita's Mexican. Go on line to get the password for the Speakeasy, look for the door marked janitor with the peekhole in the lobby. Hint, it's next to the bathrooms. Close to Steelhead Brewery and more eating establishments.

A few blocks away short walk from 5th St to Willamette and Broadway is Ken Kesey Square (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). VooDoo Donuts, KIller Burger and half a dozen dive bars, a couple of good restaurants (Party Downtown and Davis) and lots of lost youth and transients.

South on Willamette (driving distance) is The Beer Stien, large sellection of beer and good food. Across the street is Mac's at the Vet they have blues most nights but I just realized that you'll be at Fishduck Friday and the game Sat.

Back track to 6th St (one way west) to the already mentioned Beer Garden, they are celebrating The Denver Beer Fest and serving many award winners from the northwest among their 42 taps. To night the intertainment is Greg Nessler Band, they're good.

To Blair Blvd, left to Falling SkyBrewery right to Ninkasi. A couple have mentioned the Ninkasi Living Room, but they don't read the news, it closed this week, but the tap room is open.   Fun old hippy neighborhood Tacovore and Nelson's for Mexican. Visit the Red Barn and Sam Bond hippy dives.

If you stay in in Springfield after FishDuck head to 4th and Main. Planktown Brewery has a Ken Kesey mural, Public House is a properly repurposed church with stained glass, many taps and a Whiskey Bar and The Monkey Paw a Tiki bar has live music Friday night.

I type slow and the places that have been mentioned by others and me are the best. When in doubt Google. I think Portland and Eugene have the most beweries per capita in the US.

  8. After the first shower it wasn't too bad. I didn't notice the wind and it just misted a couple of times. From my point of veiw the conditions didn't seem to affect the players too much. The reffs did good job keeping a dry ball in service and the players didn't seem to too be slipping on the field. I was cozy with my seat against the wall behind row 37 and my flask of Crown Royal that I have forsook the last few years but thought it might be a good idea Saturday.

Of course my opinion of the weather is tempered of my memories of the Cal Monsoon 10 years ago. That was miserable.

  9. Dan Lanning has professed to a HUNGER. A hunger he has shared with the Team and now the fans. A HUNGER for a Nattie (thank you Cliff). Will one NC trophy satiate that hunger or will the Lays potato chip ad "Bet you can't eat just one" apply? Science calls this “hedonic hyperphagia.”

Like Uncle Phil, Dan will want another one and another and another. Me too!

We don't know at what point Dan will be satisfied with his legacy at Oregon. Will the Allure of a Super Bowl Ring draw him to the pros. There is the lesson of a short tenure that Chip Kelly and Rich brooks had in the pros or the sucess of  former Oregon coach George Siefert who won four Super Bowls.

Which will it be? When will it be? Dan has a fire deep inside and outside forces will try to sway him. We can only hang on for the ride and be thankful for the outcome.
