Coach Smith Comments on the Two-Point Conversions

Recommended Posts

It was great to see Coach Smith mess up, and reminds me that sometimes you can succeed by the other team's mistakes.  He responds to questions about it...

Question: Are you second guessing the two point tries?

COACH SMITH: "We’re coming down here to win the game and if you play the game with the normal strategy, you’re going to end up tying and trying to match their score. We were going to go for two to try to win the game. So the logic is, you go for two earlier so you know how that plays out, so then you can have your strategy based off of it after. Not totally second guessing it."

Miscalculations can hurt...

So many have questioned Cristobals calls, that one was plain brainless by Smith. I doubt anyone would agree with that call, except Helfrich years ago.

Every time they line up for 2, I kept thinking af Helfrich vs Nebraska

Oregon going for 2 just for fun is now a thing of the past. It was fun when we did it though.

To me, it was fun when we caught them by surprise with the two-pointers.

I think Smith may have been trying to channel Chip, but the call went through to Helfrich.

The swinging gate is an option play that I believe Kelly installed.

The players called and failed the 2pt options against Nebraska.

After that Helfrich stopped giving the players the option by not calling the swinging gate formation.

Smith called plays an inferior team needs to execute to stay relevant. 1 of 3 2pt conversions, a failed hail Mary, and 1 of 2 onside kicks. They were never closer than 9 pts in the 2nd half.

"So the logic is . . ."

Wow. That is the most illogical explanation I have ever heard come out of a football coach's mouth.
