USC Spring Game

Recommended Posts

On TV at 12:00 today. Is it on Pac 12 Network? No way, it is on the ESPN main channel. The media hype is working.

Maybe after the game ESPN will hand them the keys to the Natty this year.

Yes, on ESPN.  USC, the poster child with ESPN.  The only PAC12 team to be broadcast on ESPN 🤢

Sure looks like a small fan turnout. Maybe 10,000 +

With all the hype with Riley and QB you would think there would have been a bigger turn out.

Spot on. All of the SEC spring games and the ACC games were of course, broadcast on the Disney owned SEC and ACC Networks. The Pac-12 Network could have been owned and operated by ESPN. SIGH.

Like it or not, the LA market matters.

Another big mistake by our previous commissioner and university presidents.

The announcers are ready to award USC the crystal ball.

As I've tried to communicate......of course a winner will attract attention and more attendees.......but some of the old Trojan family that would have attended a game against Hawaii while a wife was having a child is long gone.......they built the new stadium addition to please the wine and cheese crowd, who largely buy up tickets to entertain business friends but have a lesser attachment to the program, while giving up 16000 seats......that was no miscalculation........USC has tried to become more an international west coast Ivy and hence has a student body that has quite a few folks that are more soccer oriented or non sport oriented.......its admin while still interested in a sport that provides a nice budget is more interested in the US News academic rating.

If as a recruit you want to have the whole experience.....best to steer toward Tuscaloosa, Athens or Eugene.

This is not to say that USC will not excel in football......just saying that the old days are gone. Filling up the colly with two pro teams, the ruins and all the other stuff to do......some marginal fans may tune in if it's a top 10 program.....if not......not so much.

The perks of having a high profile quarterback in the age of NIL.  With 60+ scholarship teammates that is about $10,000 worth of gifts.

Looked exactly like what I expected to see. Williams and this O will be dangerous.

Hated seeing the first play from scrimmage being a run play by 'our guy' Dye.

But will the SC D stop anyone?

USC is where good running backs go to "Dye."

From CBS Sports:  USC set a spring game attendance record: There were 33,427 people who braved the Los Angeles traffic and made their way to the Coliseum for a glimpse of Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams in USC paraphernalia.

Of course, Oklahoma had over 75,000 for theirs...

I guess the folks in Norman decided not to go to the beach?

The ESPN focus on USC this weekend is ultimately good for the entire Pac-12.  For many years now the narrative has been that the Pac-12 is an also-ran conference, barely better than the Group of Five.  With a strong Oregon, a strong USC, and a strong Utah, that narrative will change.

Hate to say it, but Williams looks good.  Still think they have some underlying issues that will bite them against better teams, but they should be able to score and will look flashy and get a lot of attention for the conference.  No reason to think that they couldn’t be 6-0 when they show up in SLC 10/15 based on their talent.  That is the test to see if they are the real deal or still a year or two away.  I expect a shootout - hope it snows!

That's retail. With his endorsement deal and figuring in the actual cost of manufacturing, more like $100.00.

WaPo among others, slobbering all over themselves about the SC spring game. Might as well get used to it.

At USC's spring game, minds long addled with college football might struggle to remember where all of the players and coaches used to be.
