Is that when football teams break away from universities and become the NFL "G" League? You better enjoy the next two years of non-revenue sports... Damn Husky is out at Home! They certainly don't sound like "amateurs" anymore if a "union" of sorts is being used for financial gain. This is just another potential item to add to the list that is wrong with college football, disillusioning fans. Now dissociate yourselves from the Universities. You can no longer use University names or mascots for your teams. You are no longer “college football”, but are now a minor league football organization—you don’t get to have your cake and eat it to. No leeching off the history, reputation, and regional pride built up over the years by the student athletes that have come before you. Let’s begin the transition. The Alabama Crimson Tide football team is now known as the Tuscaloosa Titans (who gives a s$&@ about them?). The Ducks are now the Eugene Evergreens (no thanks; not interested). The Beavers are now the Corvallis Commanders . . . Yuck! USC is now known as the So Cal Spartans (I just hurled). You get the drift. You’ve long argued that you’re not really students, but professional athletes. Fine! Now separate yourself from those vile Universities that have “taken advantage” of you for so long. See what life is like without them, with no connection. Now you get to compete against the NFL with the likes of constantly failing minor leagues: USFL, XFL, etc. Good luck. Only 1.6% of college football players make it to the NFL. I use the term “college football players” loosely because you’re not one of them anymore, you’re a professional minor league player with no association to a University. So when your football career eventually flames out, you’ll have to apply to college based on your academic—not athletic—accomplishments like the rest of us. You’ll be confused at first. In your quest to be paid like a professional, you had to convince yourself there’s no actual value/benefit to a free University education. Deep in your subconscious questions will begin to form, “How can something so competitively sought after that costs $30,000 to $40,000 annually have no value?” AND “Why can’t I get the job I want without first having a ‘valueless’ college degree?” Most likely your HS grades will prevent you from getting into a reputable institution of higher education. And to your horror, you’ll realize that no one cared that you played a year, or two, of football with the Tuscaloosa Titans. There’s a saying that goes something like this: “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.” It would be great to see the “all-in” results of what you “non-student professionals” want; the results of truly being professionals with no connection to the Universities. You’d deserve the results “good and hard.” Unfortunately, today’s culture rewards the self-obsessed. You tend to find a way to have your cake and eat it too. There’s a reason I love college football and enjoy the NFL. I don't know what it is now but in 2007/8 my nephew was getting 1k a month only during the season and if he played winter ball. He got a 50k signing bonus after being selected in the 11th round by TX as a Jr. relief pitcher from OSU. He played 3 yrs and made it to Double A, then a injury cost him his career. He had to pay for his own lodging, food, etc. Now I'm no math wizard but I believe the current situation is incredibly better. I doubt they will see it that way though. I knew a guy personally that was a star pitcher for the Spokane Indians back when the PCL was fairly big time. Mostly his girlfriend supported him, seriously. If College ball turns to the minors we are all going to have a laugh. florida duck No. 17 Share Posted July 24, 2022 This is a huge can of worms. Football and Basketball support a lot of the minor sports. If they start revenue sharing with players, how long before the budgets to all the minor sports get cut. And at what point to we just declare that football and basketball are no longer college sports but a private business ran by the tv networks.
