Three Reasons Why Oregon & Washington Need Each Other

That ugly purple team up north is not liked very much, but this writer gives some valid reasons.

This hack starts out with..."Unless U.O. can consistently make the College Football Playoff, they’ll probably never get respect from major networks," and that is just nonsense.  Oregon is No. 7 among all colleges for the biggest global brand, and also has more fans worldwide than Washington--by a mile.

"Seattle may not be No. 2, but they’re in the same weight class as L.A."  More Husky hubris....

The writer then does a ton of one-sentence paragraphs, of which is fine for a post, but for a published article?  That is not good writing, IMHO.

Seems as though he left out the Portland SW Washington TV market with 1.2 million TV households too.

"Eugene's Brand". Dude tries go all Grateful Dead Hippie caricature just after we wrap up the Track and Field WORLD Championships. It is beyond comical how the typical Seattleite does not, can not and will not ever realize the legitimate athletic force that is the perfect blending of Eugene, UO and Nike.

A fan base that have made places like Hayward, Autzen, The Pit and MK Arena feared as toughest places to play in the country. Eugene embodies the defiant under dog that embraces that role, and backs it's team through thick and thin. Many of us old timers can vouch for the thin part. A school that realized that aggressive D not only can keep you in the game, it can also take down the biggest of Giants. Think Kamikaze Kids, Gang Green (Kenny Wheaton's gonna score!). A school that also embraces going for it pedal to the metal (Pre, Chip Kelly).  Nike's innovation, keeping the Ducks and themselves, one step ahead of the rest. Knight's fusion of all three as he both rewards the town and school as he builds up his own sports empire.

These are things the purple pups will never understand. They will always be bitter and resentful. They'll never see how all three of these pieces fit together to create the basis for success that the Ducks have achieved. They just expect greatness to handed to them just because they are them.

They'll never get it, they'll never stop the petty jealousy, it will never stop being great comedy.

At least the author can count.

This is where Seattle can help. The Seattle-Tacoma market is 14th in the nation. This is more than 100 sports higher than Eugene’s, which ranks 117th.

It had it’s moments, but I never was much of a fan of ‘The Odd Couple’.

Interesting take. I don't find it as offensive as some of the others who've weighed in here. Like it or not, the Huskies are our allies at this point as we both angle for the best possible situation for our respective teams.

You left out the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavillion, which is owned by Payton Pritchard!

I just don't see UW as any kind of ally.  They would leave us behind in a heartbeat if they could.  Historically, they've done it before.  Never forget the hubris when the purple motor homes filled Franklin Blvd. and the utter condescension of their fans.    That's what made Kenny Wheaton's moment so sweet.  If we get a better deal and they get left behind, that's a win-win.  We have the upper hand right now and we need to keep it.

USC tends to get the most animosity in these parts, but in my mind the Fuskies deserve much more.

UW is the neighbor you hate whose home value you begrudgingly want to appreciate.

Rising tide lifts all Ducks. Let em dog paddle along side.

Big brother...pfft. thats not happening. Once we get in the B1G we will continue the hate. Until then we have some hating to do in the Pac-12.

This guy should have asked a buddy. Everyone not in a coma knows the bad blood between these teams.

The traitors down south take the crown. Will forever hate SC. Pity to ucla, they will forever be little brother. Suckers!

The uncivilized spoiled children have to come to Autzen in 23. Are they selling tickets for that far advanced date? Would love to be there for that game. Bucket list kind of thing.
