Social Media Buzz: Oregon fans react to news that QB Bo Nix will start vs. Utah

Nix was seen warming up before the game, testing the ankle to try and see whether or not

he would be able to play, and the consensus appeared to be that he would give it a shot.

As you would expect, Oregon fans had a lot of joy on Twitter after that news came out.

Here are some of the best reactions:

Instant reaction: Oregon's defense comes to play just in time

As soon as the defensive coordinator of the national champs was hired, everyone expected

the Oregon defense to improve overnight. It definitely hasn’t been an overnight process.

But on Senior Night, the defense turned in a performance former defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti would have been proud of.

The architect of the bend-but-don’t-break defense had to smile as he watched these Duck defenders.

DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM

Oregon’s defense picked up 3 turnovers and held Cameron Rising to just 170 passing yards. They arrived at the perfect time.

Oregon Ducks Player of the Game: Defensive Back Bennett Williams

Nix wasn’t his sharpest, but Oregon’s defense had their best game of the season – holding a dangerous Utah squad to just 17 points.

While nearly everyone on Oregon’s defense played well, the player of the game no doubt belongs to defensive back Bennett Williams.

DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM

The Oregon Ducks defense was excellent against the Utah Utes on Saturday, thanks to Bennett Williams picking off two passes.

Social Media Buzz: Duck fans react to No. 12 Oregon's thrilling victory over No. 10 Utah

Credit to Bo Nix. Credit to Bennett Williams. Credit to the defense. Credit to the offensive line.

Credit to Dan Lanning for having his team ready to go after a heartbreaker last week.

Oregon’s Pac-12 Championship hopes are still alive, and they are still alive going into the final week of the season.

Tough. Gritty. Thrilling. Heart-stopping. Oregon’s win over Utah was a classic on Saturday night.

Kudos to Bo Nix for crediting the D. And kudos to the D for some massive, unbelievable plays! But I hate third down. It was third and something fairly long, I told my wife that they've got us right where they want us. something happened, I don't remember what, but it ended up 4th and ten. We promptly gave it up. This is what has to stop. As well as the D played tonight in certain plays, I pray for the day when third down comes with a stop instead of a give-a-way.........

Both teams had multiple turnovers, with Oregon fumbling the ball before immediately

intercepting Cameron Rising, the first of three interceptions for the Ducks' defense.

Oregon's defense held Utah to 8-for-15 on third down and 1-for-4 on fourth down attempts.

They finished the night with six tackles for loss and six pass breakups.

Bennett Williams finished with 14 tackles, two interceptions, and a half tackle for loss in his final game at Autzen Stadium.

Duck defense stiffens up as Oregon holds on for nail biting win

Oregon's defensive players and coaches heard enough negativity coming out of last week's

loss to Washington. They showed up to turn in their best of this season on the biggest stage.

The Duck defense picked off Utah's Cam Rising three times and also stopped three Utah drives on fourth down.

Oregon's defensive line executes technique en route to stout performance against Utah

Oregon's defense showed up on Saturday night in Autzen Stadium.

It started along the defensive front. Oregon's interior defensive linemen were getting enough push to force

Seems to me that in some ways, this is the opposite of the UW game.  Last week, the Huskies played very well and deserved credit, but Oregon basically gave the game away with too many mistakes and missed opportunities.

This week, Oregon played very well and deserves credit, but Utah basically gave the game away with too many mistakes and missed opportunities.  The missed 38-yard FG in the first quarter.  Two picks.  The pathetic pass on 4th down that landed at Kincaid's feet.  Letting a gimpy QB who hadn't run all day convert a critical 4th down with a run (really just a stumble forward).

Just shows how, when teams are fairly evenly matched, little things throughout the game create a win or a loss.  The devil is in the details.

Karene Reid’s key second-half defensive TD wasn’t enough to turn the tide against Oregon

“We tried to get as many stops as possible and get the ball back to the offense as many times as we could,” Reid said.

“Obviously we lost, so even if we played good, it still wasn’t good enough, so we have room for improvement.”

Gritty Win Puts Title Game In Sight

Bo Nix started and threw for 287 yards. He was limited to only one designed run all night, but he made it count,

diving for two yards when Oregon needed at least one to ice the game in the fourth quarter.

The UO defense, meanwhile, got 14 tackles and two interceptions from safety Bennett Williams,

who took responsibility for a late touchdown by Washington in Oregon's loss to the Huskies the week before.

Noah Sewell added eight tackles and a third interception of Utah quarterback Cameron Rising, as the defense stepped up on a night the Ducks scored their fewest points in Pac-12 play this season.

"We had Bo's back," said UO defensive lineman Casey Rogers, who got in on two of the Ducks' six tackles for loss.

5 takeaways from Oregon's gutsy, revenge-filled win over No. 10 Utah Utes

It felt like the odds were stacked against the Oregon Ducks coming into this game.

They were down and beaten up. Injury had been added to insult the week before, with starting

quarterback Bo Nix getting dinged up as the Ducks lost to their biggest rival, the Washington Huskies.

Oregon was faced with a quick turnaround, and an emotional obstacle, having to face the

one team that had their number from the 2021 season — the Utah Utes.

It was arguably the most impressive win we’ve seen from the Ducks this season and one that will go on

the career highlight tape for Nix.

Here are some of our biggest takeaways from the game:

Notable quotes from Dan Lanning after Oregon's 20-17 win over Utah

Saturday night’s game between the Oregon Ducks and Utah Utes is not one that will have you diving deep into the box score to see all of the

wild stats that were put up. Rather, it was a game filled with heart, toughness, and a will to win that we haven’t seen in some time in Eugene.

Here are some of the most notable things that Lanning had to say after the victory:

Bo Nix guts out four quarters to push Ducks one step closer to Pac-12 title

There aren't many football situations Bo Nix hasn't faced during his playing days. Sweating an injury

up until kickoff had been one of them prior to Saturday night's 20-17 win over 10th-ranked Utah.

Nix practiced sparingly this week while mending an ankle injury suffered late in last weekend's loss to Washington.

Dan Lanning referred to his practice role as that of "an aggressive rehab specialist."

Bennett Williams ignites Oregon defense in gritty win over Utah

In what turned out to be a gritty, low-scoring battle at Autzen Stadium on Saturday night, senior defensive back Bennett Williams

helped ignite an Oregon defensive unit that struggled a week ago, recording two interceptions en route to a nail-biting 20-17 victory over Utah.

“This is definitely the most satisfying for the defense for sure — so far,” Williams said postgame. “We really stepped up to the plate.”

Report card: A dramatic turnaround gives Oregon Pac-12 title hopes

It was exactly one week ago when we had to go through each position group and dissect a disappointing 37-34 to the Huskies of all teams.

It wasn’t fun. Not by a long shot. We even gave our first F in the history of these report cards. We seriously hope it’s the last time.

But this week’s report card will be fun...

DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM

It’s not often a position group turns an F into an A+ in just seven days, but the Oregon secondary was great against Utah.

Duck defense punches back with strongest showing of the season

"I think I told the team after that game that I was angry and embarrassed for myself," Lanning said in reference

to last week's defensive-breakdown plagued loss to Washington.

"A lot of the players shared the same sentiment but instead of sitting there and crying over spilled milk, we said

let’s just get to work and see how we can get better. Those guys are resilient, they do a good job.
