Ducks Who Are NFL Bound #1

Recommended Posts

Both Sewell and Gonzalez are going to the NFL, I'd be shocked if they didn't.

Justin Flowe needs at minimum 1 more season before he even thinks about the NFL, he's got the physical tools but his instincts and football IQ are a work in progress.

Bo is probably gone as well, though it would be a small but very welcome surprise if it opts to return.  He's a gamer and I bet the way the season ended the last few weeks really sticks in his craw, which might provide some incentive to come back.

Gonzalez and Nix are the biggest holes to fill, I don't see anyone on the roster currently that can replace that same level of production for either.

Gonzalez has nothing else to prove at the college level.  In every game I watched the announcers discussed his transition to the next level and why he will be valuable.  He was absolutely a diamond of a get for Oregon this  year.  A talent like him is hard to replace.  There ARE some talented DB's in the portal if DL wants to go that way.

Sewell didn't have the best year but depending on what draft site you look at it, he is still projected as a late first rounder.  He probably goes.  I would be 100% certain if he had matched or exceeded last years production.  From ESPN:

I would also add Dorlus, DJ Johnson, maybe Ware-Hudson, and most of the offensive line to that list.

Gonzalez will be hard to replace but I've been impressed with Dontae Manning and Jahlil Florence.  Obviously, they will need to work on their technique and get more reps to continue to develop to their potential.  I'm sure that having Gonzalez around was extremely beneficial to the young CBs this year.  They saw what a top college CB does in film study, in practice, etc. to get ready to play on Saturdays.

It would also help the secondary if the defensive line could get more/any pressure on the QB.  We also need to upgrade the safety position, IMHO.

On Sunday morning, Ducks’ standout cornerback Christian Gonzalez officially declared for the NFL Draft,

ending his career at Oregon after just one season.

Oregon CB Christian Gonzalez lands in first round according to recent 2023 NFL Mock Draft

Oregon CB Christian Gonzalez continues to make waves in NFL draft circles as he remains a projected first-round draft pick.

In ESPN's most recent mock draft from Jordan Reid, Gonzalez falls to No. 21 to the Jacksonville Jaguars

to help provide impact potential in the secondary for the fringe playoff team.

"Tyson Campbell is a budding star at cornerback, but the Jaguars have struggled to find consistency on the other side,"

said Reid on Gonzalez's draft position.

Christian Gonzalez leads all Pac-12 players in latest 3-round NFL mock draft

For fans of the Oregon Ducks, there are only a couple of names that have gotten most of the focus so far, with CB Christian Gonzalez being taken off the board early in most mocks, and LB Noah Sewell going in the second or third rounds.

It’s rare that you’ll find many 7-round mock drafts, so it’s hard to project where the other Ducks — Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu, DJ Johnson, Alex Forsyth, etc. — will end up.

Here’s a look at all of the Pac-12 players projected in the latest 3-round mock draft from USA TODAY.

NFL draft 2023: ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. predicts Oregon Ducks’ Christian Gonzalez will be the No. 6 pick

Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez is looking like a first-round pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft.

Gonzalez can solidify predictions of an early call on draft day with a strong performance in the NFL scouting combine that started Tuesday in Indianapolis.

The sophomore is already receiving high marks and praise from a number of draft analysts and evaluators. All of them expect Gonzalez to be a first-round pick, with ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. predicting the Detroit Lions will select Gonzalez with the No. 6 pick in his mock draft 2.0 that was released Tuesday morning.

Oregon Ducks linebacker Noah Sewell explains decision to declare for 2023 NFL Draft, why his production fell in 2022

Noah Sewell had two dreams in football: To play with older brother, Penei, in college and to play in the NFL.

The former Oregon Ducks middle linebacker was robbed of the former in 2020 due to the pandemic and is in the process of making the latter come to fruition, which could come with an opportunity to reunite with his brother too.

It’s that end goal to led Sewell to forego his fourth season at UO and declare for the NFL draft.

DUCKS READY FOR 2023 NFL COMBINE

Six former Oregon football standouts will participate in this week's 2023 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Ducks will have three offensive players in Indianapolis along with three from the defensive side of the ball, including projected first-round pick Christian Gonzalez.

2023 NFL Combine: Odds to run fastest 40-yard dash

The NFL combine provides a ton of information on players wanting to take a step to the next level. There is an opportunity to improve your draft stock in a huge way throughout the week. Whether it’s on or off the field, teams will be watching every move of every player.

One of the best ways to raise eyebrows is through the 40-yard dash. This event is most likely the most entertaining for the fans back home as well. Some blazing times have been produced in the past and even when they aren’t, watching the lineman get a good sprint in provides value.

Of the group, Gonzales will be the first to run. Defensive backs are scheduled for Friday in Indianapolis, followed by wide receivers on Saturday. Running backs will close out the event on Sunday and Achane will have the chance to prove as to why he is the favorite.

Of the names mentioned, Gonzales is projected to be the first guy off the board when teams are making selections in April.

Christian Gonzalez details what NFL teams will get by drafting him

One of the best parts about this week is the platform it gives to players to hype themselves up and try to sell their abilities to prospective teams.

This is particularly entertaining when you get a guy — Oregon Ducks cornerback Christian Gonzalez, for example — who may be soft spoken and humble.

On Thursday, Oregon's DJ Johnson and Noah Sewell both went through workouts at the NFL Combine in...

Not sure if this was already posted but the NFL scouting comments were pretty harsh.

Basically the report summaries say... Lots of potential physical talent for both Sewell and Johnson but lack development. This is pretty bad for our previous coaching staff in a lot of ways because they were the ones who should have really developed these players.

It also feels like it answers part of the question as to why Lanning's Defense never came together in year one.

Assessing Christian Gonzalez's performance at the 2023 NFL Combine

It feels safe to say that Oregon Ducks cornerback Christian Gonzalez made himself quite a bit of money on Friday.

With the defensive backs taking the field at the 2023 NFL Combine, Gonzalez put on a show, impressing in the 40-yard dash, the broad jump, and with his vertical.

The Ducks’ defender was already projected to be a first-round pick before the combine, but there’s a good chance that he could rocket up some draft boards into the top 10 after this performance, being given the No. 1 draft score at his position group, per Next Gen Stats.

Here is our breakdown of everything that Gonzalez was able to do on Friday at the combine.

Washington Commanders have formal meeting with Christian Gonzalez, per report

The Washington Commanders met with former Oregon Ducks cornerback Christian Gonzalez at the NFL Combine Thursday evening, per Commanders reporter Ryan Fowler.

Washington’s biggest need in the 2023 NFL Draft is at cornerback after sending William Jackson III away to the Pittsburgh Steelers before the NFL trade deadline this past season. Kendall Fuller and Benjamin St-Juste are the expected starters for the Commanders as of right now, but many believe Gonzalez has the potential to be the team’s next top defensive back.

Apologies to any Commanders fans but personally, I hope he doesn't end up there. That team has been a mess the last couple of years. I'd hate to see him in that environment.
