TOP-20 CLASH TO CLOSE 2022

No. 17 Oregon begins the bulk of its Pac-12 schedule Friday against 10th-ranked UCLA at Matthew Knight Arena,

as the Ducks and Bruins close the 2022 calendar year.

Oregon claimed both meetings with the Bruins a season ago, winning 67-53 at Matthew Knight Arena before ousting UCLA

from the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament 63-60 in Las Vegas. UCLA holds a slim lead in the all-time series, 39-36.

Oregon women’s basketball wants to raise defensive intensity in top 20 matchup with UCLA

The No. 17 Ducks (10-2, 1-0 Pac-12) are in the top 20 in a variety of offensive statistics, including scoring, field goal percentage, three-point percentage and assists, but are 295th in turnovers forced per game and ninth in the Pac-12 in scoring defense entering tonight’s matchup with No. 10 UCLA.

“We got to contain the person that’s in front of us,” guard Te-Hina Paopao said. “That’s the main priority and not depend on Philli (Kyei) blocking their shots when they get in the paint. We need to move our feet, bend our knees and contain dribble penetration.”

Ducks not quite ready to topple nation's very best; all three losses to top 10 teams

The Ducks have gone giant hunting three times so far this season.

The outcome has proven the same each time. Competing with the nation's best is something they've been game for,

but keeping them down long enough to top them, that's a feat they've yet to master.
