CFP for Ducks?...Areas of Improvement Needed in 2023

Recommended Posts

Where the Ducks can improve the most ahead of the 2023 season

You can call it a list of New Year’s resolutions if you want, but after the end of the 2022 football season, it’s clear that there are a lot of areas where the Oregon Ducks need to get better at on the field going forward.

So what are some things that need to improve if the Ducks are to make a potential College Football Playoff run in 2023? Let’s take a look.

If the Ducks can improve in these key places, they can absolutely contend for a College Football Playoff spot in 2023.

Neel covers the needs pretty well. This great forum has been discussing all of these items since the conclusion of the Washington game.

After watching those great CFP semis, yesterday, its obvious your offense needs to put up 50 points just to stay in the game. With Nix at the helm everything is in place for the Ducks to put up 50 against most teams. However, OBD's lack a proven back up QB.....

IMHO, that is a must fix in order to have a 15 game season that starts in 2023 and ends in January of 2024

However, the Ducks will not put up 50 on the road against the Utes. If OBD's want to beat Utah (maybe twice) then the needs on defense must be addressed.

I feel confident that DL and staff will bring in the talent and then develope that talent. This years players will understand and execute better in year 2 of the scheme. The new recruits and transfers will fit in nicely. Giving up 23 or 24 points per game average will go along ways to a CFP appearance.

Go Ducks.......

Ducks play the Beavis and UCS at Autzen this year. Away at UW and UT.. OOC looks 3-0. 1-2 losses seems possible for in conference. Not sold on a CFP invite yet.

It seemed like zero QB pressure this year. That to me is the biggest need for improvement. Williams and Penix are going to give Oregon a tough time. If Rising returns and is healthy that's another tough game. Beaves just signed a decent mobile QB in Uiagalelei.

Gotta be able to sack or pressure those QB's and have some lockdown CB's to have a chance.
