Report: Bronny James 'likes' Oregon, according to Ducks 5-star PF signee

Star combo guard Bronny James is one of the top unsigned players in the 2023 cycle. He currently has a long list of suitors, including Michigan, Ohio State and Oregon among others.

Baltimore (Md.) Montverde Academy five-star power forward Kwame Evans Jr., a Ducks signee, is hoping James takes his talents to Eugene. In a conversation with Yahoo Sports’ Krysten Peek, Evans Jr. shared that the son of NBA star LeBron James has interest in Oregon.

“(Bronny) told me he likes Oregon, and I want him to visit there,” Evans told Peek. “Everyone that’s coming in is unselfish. We all cut, move and don’t hold the ball too long, so it’s going to benefit him. Bronny can be more of a playmaker and a shot creator, and I think we would play really well together.”

Bronny James and Oregon commit Kwame Evans projected lottery picks in 2024 NBA mock draft.

Bronny James isn’t the only name that Oregon Duck fans should be focused on, though. While James is yet to make his commitment and is still said to be heavily considering the Ducks, there is an Oregon commit who is in the mix for a top pick in 2024.

5-star PF Kwame Evans is even higher on the board than James is. According to ESPN’s latest 2024 mock, Evans is projected to go to the New Orleans Pelicans with the No. 9 overall pick, with James is projected to go to the Orlando Magic with the No. 10 overall pick.

Could that be a pair of Ducks in the top 10 of the draft? Time will tell.

Oregon Target Bronny James Named Five-Star By On3

While this season certainly hasn't been one to write home about, fans can be excited about what the future holds for the Ducks, as they currently hold the nation's No. 8 recruiting class for 2023.

Montverde Academy forward Kwame Evans Jr. headlines the group as a top-15 recruit nationally and he's joined by Chandler (Ariz.) Compass Prep small forward and Portland native Mookie Cook as well in-state point guard Jackson Shelstad from West Linn (Ore.).

2023 Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon guard Bronny James is one of the top remaining targets for the Ducks and has named a final three of Oregon, USC and Ohio State.

On Tuesday he earned his fifth star from On3 as the nation's No. 9 recruit standing among the country's elite players on the hardwood.

5 big men the Oregon Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal

The frontcourt for the 2023-24 Oregon Ducks is about as unsettled as it could possibly get.

Nate Bittle plans to return after averaging 7.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18 minutes per game last year, but until either N’Faly Dante or Kel’el Ware announce their plans for next season this team will need to explore the transfer portal to make an addition to the frontcourt.

Dante is coming off a career year and could parlay that into a professional career, either in the NBA or overseas if that doesn’t pan out, while Ware’s first season in Eugene went extremely poorly and it seems unlikely he’ll choose to return, either trying his hand at the NBA or entering the transfer portal.

Assuming one (or both) of those players depart, the Ducks will turn to the transfer portal to find a post player who can compliment the trio of newcomers in KJ Evans, Mookie Cook, and Jackson Shelstad.

The portal is far from set, with 1500 or so players expected to enter when all is said and done, but here is a first look at five big men the Ducks could bring to Eugene for next season:

5 guards the Oregon Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal

One of the biggest changes in college basketball over the past few years has been the creation of the transfer portal, which effectively forces coaches to re-recruit their roster every offseason.

For Dana Altman and the Ducks, it means the only guarantee for next year is the departure of Will Richardson, who exhausted his final year of eligibility while becoming Oregon’s all-time leader in games played.

Jermaine Couisnard stated he plans to come back for next season, Tyrone Williams entered the transfer portal, but right now the Ducks are awaiting word on whether Keeshawn Barthelemy or Rivaldo Soares will be back or not.

That makes pursuing guards via the portal a difficult exercise at the moment, but Altman and his staff are no doubt perusing the names available anyway, looking for any way to improve the roster after failing to make the NCAA Tournament again in 2023.

Here is a look at five guards currently available in the portal who could fit in Eugene next season:

With Will Richardson gone, and the rest of Oregon’s roster still in flux, here are some potential guards to watch in the transfer portal.

5 wings the Oregon Ducks should pursue in the transfer portal

Of all the positions for the Oregon Ducks to feel okay about looking ahead to the 2023-24 season, forward/wing is the top of the list.

Although it is not clear whether Quincy Guerrier or Rivaldo Soares will return next season, they will retain Jermaine Couisnard and of course add a pair of elite freshmen in Mookie Cook and KJ Evans.

Still, things can certainly change, and if either Guerrier or Soares were to hit the portal or pursue professional opportunities then Dana Altman might want to see what the portal has to offer on the wing.

Perhaps a transfer addition at that spot would be more of a depth option, a three point shooter or defensive stopper off the bench, but if Altman can get some of the big fish they could add an impact starter and push someone into a depth role – which is never a bad thing to have when trying to get back into the big dance.

Below are five options on the wing, who would each fit a different role, that Altman and his team should purse this transfer season:

The Oregon Ducks are getting KJ Evans and Mookie Cook next season, but if Quincy Guerrier or Rivaldo Soares leave, they...

Report: Ducks show interest in Washington State transfer TJ Bamba

The transfer portal is starting to heat up in the world of college basketball, and it looks like the Oregon Ducks are starting to get active.

On Monday, Dana Altman and his team learned that former 5-star center Kel’el Ware intended to enter the transfer portal instead of declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft, which came not long after Tyrone Williams announced that he would do the same.

It was expected that Oregon would lose a handful of players via the portal this offseason, but it’s also expected that they will make a few additions as well.

One of those potential additions became available on Monday.

Former Washington State guard TJ Bamba announced that he would enter the portal and look for a new team. Not long after, a report came out that the Ducks had already shown interest in Bamba and reached out to the Pac-12 player, trying to keep him in the conference.

Ducks have reportedly shown interest in intriguing transfer portal option

Already we have seen a couple of players — Tyrone Williams and Kel’el Ware — announce that they would be leaving Eugene and searching for a new team going forward.

Neither of those announcements came as a major surprise, and more people are expected to leave the Ducks this offseason as well. In turn, we can absolutely expect to hear some names of players transferring to Oregon as well. Already, Jadrian Tracey has announced that he will join the Ducks in 2023, coming from Florida Southwestern State.

There are other players who the Ducks have shown interest in as well. The latest player is former Northern Colorado player Dalton Knecht, according to a report from CBB writer Sean Paul. Knecht is an elite scorer who averaged 20.2 points per game last season.

Here’s what you need to know about him:

Watch: 4-star Oregon target Bronny James impresses at McDonald's dunk contest

The Oregon Ducks 2023 signing class is already incredibly impressive as is, with a pair of 5-star commits — Kwame Evans and Mookie Cook — and 4-star PG Jackson Shelstand set to join the team in the coming months.

There’s a chance that class could get even better, as well. 4-star guard Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, yet to announce his commitment. He has the Ducks listed as one of his final schools, and will likely take a visit to Eugene in the coming months.

On Monday night, James got to show off a bit of his athleticism at the McDonald’s All-American Game dunk contest, where he displayed the family genes well. Here are some of the best dunks and best reactions from the night on social media.

'Of course we want him:' Mookie Cook is trying hard to recruit Bronny James to Oregon

One of the most high-profile but sparsely covered recruitments in the last decade of college basketball is currently taking place, and the Oregon Ducks have found their way into the middle of it.

4-star guard Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, has yet to decide where he is going to play his college ball. He reportedly narrowed down his list to three schools — Oregon, the home of Nike; Ohio State, the home of his father; USC, his current home — but outside of a visit to Columbus for a football game between the Buckeyes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish last year, there haven’t been any reported visits to note for the prodigal son, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 33 player in the 2023 class.

His recruitment has an air of secrecy surrounding it, and many in the business have said that in order to try and speak to the athlete, or even members of his circle, you have to go through several layers of barriers first.

How Oregon signees Mookie Cook and Kwame Evans Jr. performed at the McDonald's All-American Game

Two of Oregon's three signees of the 2023 class participated in the McDonald's All-American Game last night as Mookie Cook lost to Kwame Evans Jr. and Team East in a thrilling 109-106 game, marking one of the most competitive MCDAAG in recent memory.

Cook played 13 minutes and 46 seconds for the West team and scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting. He went 0-for-1 on three-point attempts. Has also racked up three rebounds and one assist. Cook played excellent man-to-man defense during his time on the court, including getting a strip deflection early in the game after falling down.

Evans Jr. played a similar amount of time as Cook, registering 13 minutes and 13 seconds for the East team and scoring five points on 1-of-3 shooting. He also shot 3-for-3 from the free-throw line and grabbed three rebounds. Evans Jr.'s highlight play was a coast-to-coast transition layup, where he split a pair of defenders and was fouled going up for the layup. Evans Jr. mainly guarded wings, but at 6-foot-11, he could switch on to guards and hold his own.

Oregon makes Final 4 for Georgia Transfer Kario Oquendo

The Oregon Duck men's basketball team has made the final list of schools for a Top 50 NCAA Transfer Prospect this offseason. Georgia small forward Kario Oquendo has one year of eligibility left and has elected to use it somewhere else. The Ducks were one of four schools to make the cut.

On Social Media Thursday morning the 6-foot-5 wing announced he was down to Auburn, Utah, Oregon, and Nebraska. Oquendo started 59 of the 60 games he played at Georgia over the last two seasons. He averaged 14.0 points, shot 27 percent on 3-pointers, made 72.9 percent from the free throw line, and then averaged 3.5 rebounds and 1 steal per game over 27.2 minutes per game.

Oquendo has a connection with Oregon's coaching staff, and the Ducks making the cut makes sense. Oregon Executive Director Brian Fish helped recruit and coach Oquendo at Georgia during his first basketball season in the SEC in 2021-22. Fish arrived at Oregon this past offseason and started his second stint with the Ducks.

Bucs All-American Tracey Signs at Oregon

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern All-American guard Jadrian Tracey is headed to the West Coast where he signed to play at the University of Oregon Wednesday on National Signing Day in Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

Tracey was an Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American selection this season averaging 14.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for FSW.  His 43% shooting from beyond the arc is the best single season mark in FSW program history. He earned 1st Team All-Region VIII and 1st Team All-Southern Conference accolades after an electric finish to the season where he averaged 22.9 points per game and shot 58% from the three point line in FSW's final eight regular season games, leading them from last place in the Southern Conference standings to a second place finish and a trip to the FCSAA State Tournament. He had six 20 point games as a sophomore including a career best 34 point performance in which he shot 12-16 from the field and 7-10 from distance.

Tracey will join an Oregon squad coming off of a 21 win season in 2022-2023 in which the Ducks went 12-8 in Pac-12 action.  Oregon was invited to the NIT where they reached the quarterfinals with wins over UC Irvine and UCF.  The Ducks are just two seasons removed from a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2021.

Tracey was one of two Bucs to sign on National Signing Day Wednesday, joining teammate Tyson Brown who is headed to Rhode Island.  The pair makes it eight Division I signees for the Bucs in the past two seasons and the fourth consecutive season an FSW player has signed at the Power Five level.  Tracey is the first Buc in program history to sign with a Pac-12 school.

Report: Ducks expecting visit from Arizona State's Devan Cambridge

Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks appear to be making a strong push in the transfer portal as of late.

Last weekend, the Ducks reportedly hosted Dalton Knecht, one of the top players available on an official visit, and they will be doing the same with Arizona State guard Devan Cambridge this coming weekend, per a report from Jon Rothstein.

Altman has lost a handful of players to the portal so far this season, including Kel’el Ware, Tyrone Williams, Rivaldo Soares, and Lök Wur. While they added Jadrian Tracey to the mix, it’s easy to believe that more incoming transfer will come over the next several weeks for Oregon.

Is Dana Altman zeroing in on final transfer portal addition in 2023?

When former Arizona State guard Devan Cambridge announced that he would not actually be transferring to the Oregon Ducks, and instead be going to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, a roster spot opened up in Eugene.

For several weeks now, we’ve been waiting to see how Dana Altman was going to choose to use that spot, and if he was ultimately going to fill it before the season began.

It appears that a potential target has made itself known.

Oregon a finalist for 5-star guard Cam Scott

The Oregon Ducks are a finalist for one of the nation's best shooting guards.

Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks are a finalist for one of the nation's top prospects in the 2024 recruiting class as the 5-star announced his final group of schools, plus a date in which he'd issue a verbal commitment.

5-star shooting guard Cam Scott of Lexington (S.C.) was on campus in June for an official visit to Oregon. A month later the Ducks along with Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Texas made the cut for the schools he'll be choosing between. Scott announced he'd also give a verbal commitment on August 11th at 11 a.m. PT.

"It was a great visit with me just getting to know the coaches," Scott said to 247Sports after a visit to Oregon. "I already had a previous relationship with Chuck Martin because he is from South Carolina. Meeting the coaching staff and getting to hoop with the players was pretty fun. It is one of the spots I can see myself at."

Oregon assistant coach Chuck Martin was one of his recruiters, but Martin has since left Oregon for Kentucky. Oregon assistant coach Mike Mennenga has also been involved in the recruitment of Scott and the entire Oregon staff has picked up their involvement following Martin's departure.

One of the West Coast's top juniors, top-40 ranked Jovani Ruff talks visits and is eyeing a spring decision

When it comes to the class of 2025, Jovani Ruff isn't just one of the best players on the West Coast. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard at Long Beach (Calif.) Poly is one of the top two guards in the country.

Ruff has size, can create off the dribble and gets hot from deep. One of the hallmarks of his game, though, is the confidence with which he plays. A confidence that a family member helped to instill in him by watching film of some of the NBA's best scorers.

“It comes from grandfather really. When I was young, I didn’t really have a lot of confidence but we watched a lot of film of Devin Booker and Bradley Beal and seeing how they get to, I decided I want to be there one day too so I had to turn it up.”

Oregon: “I like their playing style. They’ve got Jackson Shelstad up there and I feel like I could play with him and he could help me get my shot off whenever.”
