WATCH: Dana Altman looking for consistency and better effort ahead of Colorado

Oregon head men's basketball coach Dana Altman met with the Oregon media ahead of the team's upcoming home swing this week against Colorado on Thursday and Utah on Saturday.

The Ducks are looking to bounce back from a disappointing road loss at Stanford Saturday night and, at the same time, play much better against a Colorado team that blew the Ducks out the last time they met earlier this year.

Altman spoke about how the team is getting ready for the matchup and what the Ducks need to do better to win this time around.

Oregon heads into critical week knowing they still have to play league's best

The Oregon men's basketball program is back in a familiar spot from last season. The Ducks go into the final weekend of January with 11 regular season games left to play, and they are not even remotely close to being on the NCAA Tournament bubble.

"We've got to keep grinding. We have a third of our schedule left. We have to get better. We have to grind it out."

Oregon men’s basketball in search of improved, consistent effort

On paper Oregon is only one-and-a-half games out of second place in the Pac-12 with 11 games to play — more than enough to climb the ranks of the weakest power conference in the country and keep its postseason hopes alive.

But what’s on paper doesn’t remotely tell the story of this Ducks team, which is coming off its worst loss of the season at Stanford and is 60th in NET only because its losses to the Cardinal and Utah Valley are momentarily higher than they will be by the end of the season.

The men's basketball program hopes to see a jump-start in production from three players who were

expected to have big roles on this year's team.

Senior forward Quincy Guerrier, sophomore forward Nate Bittle, and freshman center Kel'el Ware have all had rocky

and inconsistent seasons this year. Getting all three on track is a must-do item for the Ducks to turn its season around.

Oregon hosts Colorado in must-win situation

Oregon looks to turn over the Pac-12 schedule and will start playing opponents for the second time this season. Up first is a date against an opponent that dominated the Ducks the last time out.

"They went small on us quite a bit, and it put us in a tough spot," Altman said of the loss.

Can Oregon men’s basketball avenge its dreadful loss at Colorado, contain Tristan da Silva?

Whether UO can avenge its dreadful 68-41 loss in Boulder, in which it scored the fewest points with the least assists (three) and shot lowest from the field (26.9%) during Dana Altman’s tenure is another matter.

If the Ducks (11-9, 5-4 Pac-12) are going to start a critical six-game stretch, which will go a long way in determining their postseason viability, with a win tonight they’ll need to make drastic improvements in their offensive play and also contain CU’s Tristan da Silva, who had a career game with 30 points and seven rebounds against UO.

Oregon hangs on for tough home win vs Colorado

The Ducks suffered scoring droughts for over four minutes in each half; the Ducks committed five

turnovers in a span of three minutes and yet also made five of six field goal attempts mixed into the turnovers.

It was a game that described Oregon's season with how inconsistent they can play and combine good and

basketball together. In the end, the Ducks found the plays needed to pull out the win.

I'll give credit to Bittle, played his best game as a Duck, not a lot more to say, they won, on to the next game.

So many of our games get too close for comfort in the final minutes. Like tonight, we seemed to be cruising along with a 10 point lead, I came back from a short phone call and the game was within 4 points with a couple of minutes to go!

Bittle Leads Ducks To Win Over Buffs

Oregon got a career night from sophomore Nate Bittle to win despite the absence of big man N'Faly Dante.

Bittle tied his career high with 11 points, set a new career high of 13 rebounds and tied another career high with four blocked shots. Quincy Guerrier also stepped up with 16 points and six rebounds, and Keeshawn Barthelemy added 13 points against the team from which he transferred to Oregon.

"We've just got to play the games as they come, try to finish as high as we can, do the best we can," UO coach Dana Altman said. "We're halfway through, 6-4; we're going to have to do better in the second half. But we (play) everybody who's ahead of us. So we have a chance. We've just got to get better — we've got to play better, we've got to play tougher."

Oregon avenges earlier loss, takes down Colorado in 6-point win

“There’s no doubt without [Bittle’s] performance tonight, we don’t get it done. He was really good” head coach Dana Altman said.

“[Dante] tweaked a knee in warmups so we’ll go check that out tomorrow,” Altman said. “I thought Nate and Quincy stepped up. Nate with 13 rebounds and Quincy got six but he kept a couple alive for us.”
