Ducks continue Pac-12 gauntlet with homestand against No. 3 UCLA

This week, Oregon will continue a difficult opening stretch of conference play as UCLA visits Jane Sanders Stadium just one week after No. 7 Stanford traveled into Duck territory and came away with a pivotal series win last weekend.

The No. 3 Bruins will travel to Eugene at 27-3 on the season, as the No. 19 Ducks are tasked with their third consecutive top-ten opponent. In the two series prior, Oregon went a combined 2-4 as No. 10 Washington and the aforementioned Cardinal each picked up tightly-contested series wins.

Starting this Friday, the Ducks will look to flip the script against arguably their toughest test yet. As they sit in seventh in the Pac-12, an upset win, or two, could come in handy.

“This last series, we got one, we could’ve gotten two,” head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “So we’re right there, we’ve just got to keep continuing what we’re doing.

Ducks Take Opener With No. 3 Bruins, 3-0

Morgan Scott threw a shutout and Terra McGowan drove in two runs for the No. 19 Ducks, who host the Bruins again Saturday in Jane Sanders Stadium.

Playing their third straight series against a top-10 opponent, the Oregon softball team made a strong opening statement against No. 3 UCLA on Friday at Jane Sanders Stadium, shutting out the Bruins, 3-0.

UO senior Terra McGowan homered in the first and had an RBI double in the fifth for the No. 19 Ducks (20-8, 3-4 Pac-12). She also caught pitcher Morgan Scott, who followed up her win over Stanford the week before by again going seven innings without allowing an earned run to a top-10 opponent, this time the Bruins.

"Morgan's coming into her own," UO head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "You can see she's really settling in and understanding what she's wanting to do. And I just love it. I love that our team just rallies around her, just the energy that she gives off. These guys want to play really, really hard for her."

Ducks shut down third-ranked UCLA to pick up series-opening victory

In a 3-0 upset victory over UCLA at Jane Sanders Stadium on Friday night, Morgan Scott allowed just two hits in a complete-game shutout, holding the Bruins scoreless for just the third time this season as Oregon improved to 3-4 in Pac-12 play.

Scott struck out four batters while surrendering just a single walk on Friday, improving to 5-3 on the season as she subdued the offense of the Pac-12’s top-ranked team.

When it felt like the Ducks needed a win the most, after dropping back-to-back series’ against top-ten opponents, it was Scott and the defense that delivered, shutting down a UCLA team that, despite winning 17 straight games to start the year, has suddenly limped to 4-3 in conference play.

“I think Morgan’s coming into her own,” Oregon head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “You can see she’s really settling in and understanding what she wants to do, and I love it. Our team just rallies around her — just the energy that she gives off — these guys want to play really, really hard for her.”

Why is the only info I'm hearing are updates provided by the from the baseball game announcing crew?

PAC12 net is providing nothing.

One would think the UCLA-Oregon match-up would be a game to place some emphasis on, rather than ignoring it completely, once it was delayed.

Series Even Entering Sunday's Finale

The No. 19 Oregon softball team squandered some precious opportunities Saturday in a loss to No. 3 UCLA.

Oregon rallied back from an early deficit but UCLA struck the two biggest blows Saturday as the No. 3 Bruins evened the series with the No. 19

The Ducks (20-9, 3-5 Pac-12) scored twice in the first inning for a 2-1 lead and got a two-run homer from Terra McGowan in the sixth, but a grand slam by the Bruins in the fourth and a two-run shot in the seventh were the difference. In a game that featured just a single 1-2-3 half inning, UCLA was 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position while Oregon was 2-for-17, as the Ducks left 11 runners on base.

"The grand slam, it's tough — that one hurt — but you're never out of it," UO coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "I mean, we're standing in the last inning and we've got the tying run at the plate. So we're in this game; you can't leave that many runners on base."

The Ducks stranded runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, and had runners at second and third when the game ended.

No. 18 Oregon softball strands 11 in loss to Megan Faraimo, No. 4 UCLA

Oregon stranded a season-high 11 runners and the Ducks’ failure to capitalize proved costly Saturday against UCLA All-American Megan Faraimo.

Faraimo allowed two runs on seven hits, two walks and a hit batter with eight strikeouts over 6.2 innings to lead the No. 4 Bruins in a 7-4 win over the No. 18 Ducks at Jane Sanders Stadium.

“A huge focus for me today was using our defense and I was telling them after a lot of my pitches out there it’s 9-on-1,” Faraimo said. “Second day out here and it’s been a long series. I think both of our offenses are throwing punches, so I knew that we’re going to have to leave them out on the field and it’s not going to be all on me; we’re going to have use every single position.”

Ducks Drop Finale to No. 3 Bruins

Oregon had chances again Sunday but couldn't break through for the lead before UCLA rallied in the seventh.

More missed opportunities hurt the Oregon softball team Sunday as the No. 19 Ducks missed out on a chance to take a series from No. 3 UCLA by losing 6-2 before 1,824 fans at Jane Sanders Stadium.

One day after leaving 11 runners on base, Oregon stranded 10 on Sunday. The Ducks (20-10) fought back from an early deficit to tie it 2-2 through three innings, but missed chances to take the lead left the door open for UCLA to take control with a four-run seventh inning.

"We just we need to cash in," UO coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "We had opportunities all weekend. We just need to cash in. We didn't cash in enough."

UCLA ignites in the seventh to deny Ducks’ upset bid

UCLA scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull away from Oregon and win 6-2 on Sunday afternoon, clinching a road series win at Jane Sanders Stadium after dropping the series-opener to the Ducks on Friday.

The game was deadlocked at two for three full innings before what proved to be a decisive top of the seventh, as both Maya Brady and Jordan Woolery launched home runs as part of an explosive final offensive frame of the weekend for the Bruins.

Oregon was denied multiple opportunities to take a lead before the late surge by UCLA, leaving multiple runners on base in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before Brady ultimately put her foot down with her lead-seizing two-run homer.
