  • Copying Into a Post Without Bringing Excess Code

    Learning Tip:

**To learn and implement best? Have this page open in a tab at the top of your browser, and another tab open of the forum and in the page begun where you want to post a topic or reply. (You can have two tabs of the site open at the same time.)

You can see the problem above, of when you copy and paste something into a Posting Box from another source….and you often bring excess code into the Posting Box of which creates all the “white” in what you brought over.

The solution (Red arrow above) is what is called “Notepad” on PC, and “Text Edit” on Macs; you see I have it in my Toolbar along the bottom of my computer as I use it several times a day.

So I highlighted the area from the original document (above) and “copied” it, and then clicked on Notepad (Red arrow above) so it would pull up, and then I pasted what I copied into Notepad (Green arrow above) and now Notepad removes the excess code.

After I’ve pasted it into Notepad, I simply highlight the area in Notepad (Above) and then “Cut” to take it out of Notepad….

Then paste it into the Posting Box.  Keep in mind that you will have to add the formatting such as the bolded title above, but that only takes a few seconds.  The end results is a clean copy from the original source and this process can be done in 10-15 seconds is all once you have done it a time or two.

(Check these directions below for putting an icon of either of these programs on the bottom toolbar or dock of your computer.  Once installed, it is a snap to pull it up and use it in seconds as I do many times every day)

How to Add the Notepad or Text-Edit Icon to Your Toolbar or Dock at the Bottom of your Computer Screen

It is super-handy to be able to copy-and-paste things into a post safely without bringing in excess code; I leave my Notepad minimized and right there as I use it many times each day.

For Window or PC: Go to the lower right to “Programs” and click on Notepad, and then right click.  An option appears to lock this item to the taskbar/toolbar below, so choose that and click.

For Mac: Go to Launch Pad, which is an icon looking like a Space Ship on the bottom of your screen.  (Move your cursor down there to pull them up) Click on this icon and a page appears and a search bar is at the top of it. Write in Text Edit.

Open Text Edit, and an icon of it will appear at the bottom because you have it open. Press “Control” and then click on the Icon on the dock. A menu drops down and you move the mouse over the word, “Options” and click on the words, “Keep in Dock.”

Now it will be handy for you and helps when you copy-and-paste anything, by removing the excess code.  Cool!
