  1. One of the obvious benefits of scoring in bunches early on is that the game is essentially over at halftime, allowing for LOTS of playing time for your young and talented roster. One of the things I recall from Georgia (and Alabama's) natty runs, is that they were deep at every position, and when a player went down, often a player of equal (sometimes better) talent stepped in. Lanning has assembled that kind of talent in Eugene, and there's no time like the present to get them on the field accumulating real game reps. Come playoff time, we are going to be deep & experienced.

"If you're good enough, you're old enough."

  2. By the time PK goes the way of his forefathers OBD will be close to or at full revenue sharing in the BIG, which will be somewhere around $100 million a year (give or take $20 million). With Oregon's strong brand (The GOAT of brand equity?), fiscal management, facilities, NFL presence, etc, etc, I don't see us EVER going the way of the Cowpokes. IMHO.

So many angles on this one. While competing for the starting QB position is an asset, you cannot underestimate the impact of being (and knowing) that you are the guy. IMHO it changes the way you lead, play, and turn adversity into accomplishment. While Bo & Dillon came in with a lot more experience (not all good), they didn't have "the benefit" of competing for the quarterback position through camp, yet managed to hit the field ready to win games.

For what it's worth, I too trust the DL & WS process, but I can't help but lean towards naming the guy who is going to take the reins ASAP.

  4. It was the uniforms! (Isn't that always the case with OBD?) Mark Helfrich was done in by a series of uniform debacles. Consider:

    • The disgusting "Oregon Trail" threads that became a point of humor for the Pirate (WSU coach Mike Leach) after beating us in Double OT at Autzen

    • The clownish "Daffy Duck" orange socks uniforms that set the stage to be roasted by Colorado at home

    • The retro "Cal Leather Helmet" combination that made us look like absolute buffoons against the Bastard Huskies in our 70 to 21 loss at home

I'm convinced it was the fashion faux pas combined with fittingly ugly home losses that sparked the ire of Duck fans and decision makers. Ultimately, Mark was done in by equipment fails.

  5. How could the coach who called this play EVER be considered for COY?

"Running back C.J. Verdell of the Oregon Ducks fumbled with time running out against Stanford in a game played on September 22, 2018. The fumble occurred while Verdell was fighting for extra yardage. Stanford recovered the fumble and went on to tie the game with a field goal, eventually winning in overtime. This loss was particularly difficult for Oregon, as they had seemingly sealed the victory before the fumble occurred."

    Ya think?

  6. Makes me wonder what happened to Ross James in the off season? Seems like he found his way into DL's dog house. It also suggests that you better not lose your edge & dedication during the off season if you want to see the field on this team!

I want to believe you, I really do, I just sort of wonder how good Indiana actually is.  Our stretch of wins only really contains one win that I would consider against a "good" team that would be Wisconsin, and even in that game we sort of got lucky with a deep deep 3 to tie it, we certainly played well in that second half and OT though!

Just depends on matchups, I really don't want to be in Auburn or Duke's bracket, I think both those teams aren't good matchups for us.

Next game will say a lot of about where the Ducks are now after that tough 5 game losing streak.

Regarding how good Indiana is: They beat Purdue 73-58 down the stretch and would have finished on a 7 game win streak had they not lost to OBD twice:)
