I hope Tez develops the same kind of chemistry with Dillon as he had with Bo.

Agree. UCLA just can't get anything right. And, their new football coach hire was uninspiring, to say the least.
TBH I don't think they had much of a choice lol

Given that the impact sounds like it would mostly on walk-ons, I don't see how that helps control costs.

Oregon Football Awaits Commitments from Two Elite Prospects
WWW.SI.COM
Oregon Ducks football fans may soon have a couple of new commitments to look forward to if things play out how... -
I wonder why Dabo is so anti-portal...his high school recruiting classes are always in the top 10 (Rivals) so maybe he thinks that's good enough to develop his talent pool via the traditional method. That being said, his competitors are using the portal to fill in holes (like DL) and passing him by. Some people are just stubborn I guess.

Makes sense that tOSU's toughest game would be OBD in Autzen. For Oregon I think it's a tie between tOSU at home and Michigan on the road.
-
It's heartening to know that there's real hope in a long term coaching situation for OBD. Guys like Saban, Smart, Dabo have been at their schools for years resulting in some serious program stability and with that success at the highest echelons in college football.

Quotes like below from the article above never get old...
"Riley might have made appropriate staffing adjustments, but the residue of last year’s failed 8-5 season likely contributed to Harmon choosing Oregon over USC. The Ducks are closer to a national title than the Trojans are. Harmon’s decision can be seen as rational in that context."
Interesting note....the author of the article, a hardcore Trojan, actually shot pictures for FishDuck when we played at USC years ago... And he is still helping me with quotes like that!
I especially like this quote because it's so brutal and true:
“Is Lincoln Riley really that much better than any other Air Raid coach? Have we been caught up in the idea of Riley being successful those first couple of years (at Oklahoma) and then applied that to years in which his teams look outclassed and outcoached? I honestly don’t know the answer and I suspect I am not alone. Riley looks like a giant mystery right now.”

And just because a HC hires coordinators well doesn't mean the on field product changes.
Cristobal hired some great coaches on paper but they never seemed to live up to their pedigrees. Moorehead's offense should have been high flying and high scoring and it was neither. DeRuyter has a track record to fielding solid defenses and with the Ducks his defense was average.
So we'll have to wait and see on if Riley actually follows through. Hopefully he doesn't.... It's more fun that way.
Exactly! DL is a defensive guy but you can absolutely tell he divides his attention equally between the defense and offense, he wants to understand everything in detail. LR has always been about offense and has never appeared interested about anything else, based on historical defensive stats on his teams it's obvious he never properly supported his DCs or cared to be involved on that side of the ball.

USC's defensive staff is of course better than the previous one (there was no where else to go but up). But the state of their defensive roster is so bad it's going to take multiple seasons to fix it....assuming LR still has a job by then since fan patience will wear thin if he continues having mediocre 7-8 win seasons.

Wait, is Barry insinuating that LR has won something? Last I checked DL actually has a national championship ring as a DC and has a better HC record the last 2 seasons…

Dude revealed he does actually think 5 or 6 losses are possible even if he’s not predicting it. Looking at their schedule, I agree.
Oh I'm almost certain they'll get 6 losses this upcoming season. They were already mediocre with Caleb Williams, now they have to rely on Miller Moss who didn't look that great in the Spring game.
Some of the comments for that video are hilarious...
"Great Move SC Don't Pay This Cat Anything, Way Too Much , For A One Season Rental , Let Him Go Elsewhere""I think usc is in a much better spot than last year. People are forgetting USC was not even a top 100 defense last year and they played a lot of 275lb interor D-linemen. Only Bear and Barrs were 300ish and up. Also i think Lucas can play DT if they want him to. He was in the 290s last spring before coaches had him cut to 260ish"
"Ben Roberts is available in the transfer portal. He's a solid nt, and we could get several players like him in the rotation from the Group of 5 level."

The inconvenient truth is that Oregon is closer to a natty than USC
SPORTS.YAHOO.COM
Derrick Harmon saw that Oregon is closer to a national championship than USC. It's hard to blame him.The hubris is still evident, especially when the author won't admit Dillon Gabriel is a better QB than Miller Moss.

And that was before Harmon... Count our blessings and and enjoy the ride my friends!
(And USC did get a "B"...)
What's really kinda funny is that USC is relying on Beavo transfers to hold up that "B" grade.

I do think Gabriel's ceiling is lower than Bo's. That being said, the offense will look a bit different with him running it given that he's truly a dual threat QB. We might see the offense revert more into a similar look that we saw in DL's first season with Dillingham managing the scheme, significantly more running by Gabriel than we saw Nix do last season. That being said, he's a more than competent passer and I wouldn't be surprised if he floated around that 4k passing mark with around 400+ rush yards (Bo had over 4.5k passing yards last season for reference).

Plus I don't think the coaches were allowing the QBs to run really at all to minimize risk of injury. That hamstrings a guy like Dillon Gabriel, also he and Dante are still new and don't have chemistry with the receivers yet.
