There were people online saying that Treshon should be kicked off the team, that's excessive punishment. Benching him for a couple games would give him ample time to work on himself a bit before getting into the meat of the schedule.
Well yeah, you can find any opinion you are looking for on the Internet. Anyone that thinks he should be kicked off the team for that alone are complete morons.
In a vacuum, my initial thought was Holden would be suspended for 1 game, or perhaps the first half of the next game. What is appropriate is always debatable. I know in the NFL players have been caught spitting on other players and they have received minor fines (relative to their astronomical salaries), with no suspension.

Benched for 2 games sounds about right for a punishment.
On the surface, that seems like an excessive punishment to me. Of course, there are other things that go on behind the scenes that can influence the outcome, which is why I will just trust whatever the coaches decide is appropriate.

Keep in mind that OSU had incurred a 15-yard penalty on the previous play which was going to be assessed after they got the ball. So, even if they did recover the squib on their own 40, after the penalty, they would have been on their 25-yard line.
That isn't how the penalty works. The penalty is assessed prior to the kick, meaning the Ducks were kicking from the 50 yard line rather than the 35. The penalty is not assessed after the team recovers the ball.

If you watched Arizona State vs. UCLA last season, you saw Dillingham taking advantage of these penalty/clock rules in their upset of UCLA. It wasn't the exact same situation (Dillingham was more blatant, taking penalty after penalty in order to waste 90+ seconds of clock), but there is no doubt that Lanning is aware of, and has put a lot of thought into, how to use all of these nuanced rules to his advantage.
Of course, that doesn't automatically mean everything that happens has a purpose, rather than being a mistake, but in this particular instance, I think it is much more likely than not that it was intentional. Well done Dano. 👍

I wanted Oregon to sign Cam Ward before Dillon Gabriel became available. He’s a very talented QB.
Yep, I was on the Cam Train also. The only concern with him was being mistake prone, but I felt it was well worth the risk and that the Oregon offensive structure would clean up most of that. That being said, it worked out fine with Gabriel. Dillon is probably the safer choice, but Cam has the higher ceiling physically.

USC looks for real, granted LSU may be mediocre but they're certainly better than BSU or Idaho.
No, it isn't the least bit certain that LSU is better than Boise State. LSU just got beat up by the Nicholls Colonels in the trenches. The Nicholls running back, who isn't even in the same universe as the Boise State running back, ran for 145 yards on a 5.8 ypc average. LSU as a team rushed for 68 yards with 3.2 ypc. Boise State would have an excellent shot at beating LSU on a neutral field.

You mean they are talking about the numerous high profile matchups over the weekend, rather than Oregon vs. Idaho? Yeah, that is the way it works. I couldn't even tell you who Ohio State played without looking it up. Most people across the country aren't going to care much about an Oregon game until they play Ohio State.

The United States might not lose a game in the Olympics with amateurs for one reason....they likely wouldn't qualify for the Olympics at all. No, I am not joking. Simply qualifying for the Olympics at all is particularly difficult in Europe and North/South America (and becoming increasingly more difficult in the other continents as well) due to the limited number of qualifier slots available for those continents. Think if the US tried to send only college athletes to the Olympics in all sports, how competitive would they be?
Any of these sports in the Olympics (volleyball, water polo, soccer, etc.),...there isn't a single team sport they would not get crushed in if they sent only college players. Some may think it is different for basketball, which is one of the most popular/competitive sports internationally, but it isn't.
Of course, since the United States is hosting the next Olympics, they automatically qualify for every team sport regardless, even if they went the amateur route.

No worries. It was brought up so often during Doug Collins' broadcast career that the year is ingrained in my memory. 😆
For a trip down memory lane, here is an interesting look at the controversy surrounding that ending.

BP - Before Pros, USA's amateurs dominated Men's basketball before and after 1968 when the refs hosed them out of a victory over Russia.
Those of us around back then remember how badly Iron Curtain judges screwed over the USA every chance they could. It was the Cold War Olympics.
The controversial ending was in the 1972 Olympics. But yeah, those days are long gone. A group of college players thrown together wouldn't even be competitive on the international stage these days.

I kinda wish we would go back to playing amateurs. As in the top college players. It’s kinda cool to see our NBA players, but anything short of gold is a massive disappointment. If we played our top college players it would be more interesting to me and mean more to win gold.
The US would not win a single game with amateurs.

So, this gets asked every couple of years. And being that I'm 9/10ths the way to ancient, I think I can be forgiven for my forgetfulness.
I've wondered why he's counted with 2025 commit ratings when he is going on a 2-year LDS mission? He won't be on the team until 2027. Also, when does he begin to count against the roster limit of 85? '27, I assume. So many questions. So little brain left ...............................
The recruiting sites aren't in the business of predicting when/if recruits will show up at the schools they sign with (for whatever reason, including missions...kids can change their minds when it comes to that also), so they always count towards the class they sign with, regardless.
A signee doesn't count towards the scholarship limit until they actually enroll in school and become part of the team.
Needless to say, the whole mission aspect makes this verbal far less impactful than it otherwise would have been.

Enjoyed this one (Burnt Orange/TXFF):
"Sark lets these kids sort themselves out based on their personal priorities. If it's all about NIL, he's ok with letting them go so he can maintain his culture that's about education, development, and winning. In the long run, Sark's kids will be more stable and more coachable and less likely to hit the portal when someone else flashes a shiny object at them. He knows exactly what he's doing and I'm good with it."
Those comments are pretty funny considering it was Sark & Texas that were one of the leaders in the NIL arms race. One of the first organized NIL schemes (errr, deals) I remember hearing about was "The Pancake Factory", in which every Texas offensive lineman receives a payment of $50,000 annually.

The D-Lineman I have not heard a great deal about lately is a player from Mater Dei in Santa Ana; he is good enough to excel at D-or O Lineman. He is a Poly, about 6'3", and he is quick and aggressive. He has won best lineman in camps on both sides of the ball. This guy isn't huge but is strong and twitchy, and he is a difference-maker. We have been on him, but so is SC. He would be a phenomenal addition for either team, or other teams in the East.
Sounds interesting. Do you know his name? I see that Arizona landed a 6'3" Poly kid from Mater Dei the other day (Sione Tohi), but I don't know if that is who you were referring to.

It doesn’t get much better than committing a guy like Brew, but I admit that the fact that he is spurning tOSU to come to Eugene does make it much sweeter!
In fairness to Ohio State, they already had the #1 and #2 ranked cornerbacks in the country committed. Fortunately, what the Oregon recruiting insiders have been saying (Ohio State can't land them ALL...right???) finally proved to be true.

I agree with your inference about Josiah Sharma - Josiah is so young to be as big and quick as he is. Josiah is only 6'3.5" tall; he may
grow another inch or so in heighth.
Sharma is listed at 6'5" on 247 and 6'6" on Rivals. In January of 2023, he participated at a camp in Las Vegas and measured in at 6'4.5", 292 pounds with a 79” wingspan. I have no idea how much he has actually grown (if at all) since then, but that should probably be considered his baseline.
As for my comment about Odom being a JAG, that is just my opinion looking at it through the lens of Oregon's current level of recruiting. I view Odom as being mid to below on the spectrum of Oregon defensive line recruiting. To wit, the Ducks have signed numerous defensive linemen in the past couple of classes that I would consider to be superior, or equal, prospects. Of course, this is an inexact science for even the top experts (which does not include me), so only time will tell what type of college career he has.
