  1. I whole-heartedly agree with the argument put forth in the article.   Us wee folk in the PNW don't often have to face this situation, even less so when it's likely the PNW is going to win.  Washington is helping Oregon by association.    Michigan can go pound sand.

  2. Helfrich was not head coach material from the get-go and was a lazy hire to replace Chip.  Too soft.  not enough of that type A personality.  He didn't have the leadership energy that is required to keep the team cohesive and focused and thus lost the locker room.    That's why 70-21 happened and why 4-8 happened.

Lots to shake out before next season even starts. Will Harbaugh still be at MI? Who's QB'ing at WA and Oregon? How will long distance travel affect the Ducks? Will the same staff be here next year?

This was a magical season where all the pieces were there. Bo Nix's don't come along very often and made DL's life easier. I'm sure the Ducks will be in the thick of things next season but IMO it's going to be just as tough next year as it was this year. Will two losses get you a slot in the new 12 team CFP? I hope so.

Yes, possibly even 3 losses depending on the number of undefeated.

    Well now!

    Shough? First reaction = No!

Second reaction = Trust DL and Stein to make those decisions....

The Ducks will need a hungry proven QB in the portal.

    Why? Because... a

After watching the game, the third time, TT is not the answer.  He rarely ran thru his progressions. He locked onto his primary receiver and let the ball fly. Some throws were reckless!

Now many on this forum will not agree with me and thats okay. However if you get a chance, watch the game and make your own coaching evaluation.

On the pass that was intercepted, TT had an open, unguarded receiver (Kasper) 2 yards to the righr. TT never looked at his options.

Whats worse is at the top of the screen, a Duck receiver was blowing by the safety for a bird bomb. TT had no idea because he never looked off his intended receiver. No excuse for throwing that pic.

You don't play the games to get better.....you get better in practice and execute your plays and options during the game. When your number is called you deliver the goods.

I like TT and want him to succeed. He has all the athleticism and talent needed. But after 3 springs and 2 complete summers, when his number is called, he doesn't even run thru his progressions? WOW...

I was extremely disappointed.  ASU had no defensive fight left in them when TT came into the game. Even with the 2's and 3's in the game, the Ducks should have scored a 2nd or 3rd TD..

This is not a personal attack on TT. This is about judging performance!

We will not beat the top dogs in the BIG next year without a leader at the QB1 spot.

DL and Stein will choose wisely!

Totally agree.  I too was very disappointed in TT's performance.  He just doesn't have "it".

Yes. And it won't be easy.  This will probably be a Civil War for the Ages.

I don't know... The Ducks have been making it look easy (minus penalties).   The last game I can remember being nervous watching was Texas Tech haha.   I'm halfway confident that they will roll the beavs in the same fashion as they rolled Utah or ASU.    This is the year.

It seems we've found our punter (though he hasn't had to do much, so not a huge body of work to extrapolate from), and the kick-off and punt coverage finally seems to be improving. And we've had a couple good returns we've not had in the past year or so.

But what is going on with Lewis? Last year he was money. This year he's missed multiple makeable field goals and kicked several kick-offs out of bounds (did he have any out of bounds last year?). Is he dealing with an injury of some sort? Or is it just mental? Hoping he and the coaches can get it righted soon, or it's going to cost our OBD at some point.

Been wondering this now ever since the Stanford game.   I read somewhere he's kicked it out of bounds 5 times now and missed 5 out his last 8 FG attempts.  I'm getting Moldanado vibes.  I hope he gets it together for the stretch run.

  7. I'm hoping this is just media click bait, but it better not be a distraction... These next two games are crucial. We all know what happened when we started hearing rumors about Mario and the Miami head coaching job:   Ducks were destroyed twice by Utah and I blame most of that on the coach, he checked out mentally on the team, causing a morale problem amongst the players and it was reflected on the field.

Oregon should easily beat USC, if we play a clean game.

However, what has me nervous is the flip side. If Oregon comes out of the gates slow again (like they did against Stanford and Cal), turns the ball over and/or shoots themselves in the foot with penalties (like the Texas Tech game), USC could build a 21-0 lead and we would be chasing them the entire evening. What if Caleb Williams has the game of his life, scrambling and throwing dimes to his talented wide receivers resulting in a shoot out? Those are the kinds of games Dan Lanning and staff want to avoid.

This game makes me nervous because USC has an explosive offense, lead by the defending Heisman. I’m just hoping for a clean game by the Ducks and a W on Saturday evening. Style points don’t matter, just beat SC.

Exactly how I felt before the Utah game, but the Ducks came out clean and crisp and handled them easily on the road.  Here's hoping the same happens next week, this time in the comfy confines of Autzen.

I am beginning to think that UW played the game of their lives against UofO...they have not looked good the last two weeks and are struggling against Stanford.

I can't think that they can pull that type of game out of their puppy chow two times in a row WHEN we see them in the PAC Championship.

Penix was injured in the 4 quarter against the Ducks... Looked like ribs or chest.  He hasn't been the same since.

Oregon under Coach Lanning is now 0-2 vs Washington. Shameful, both these games were lost due to poor coaching. Last year the trope was Coach Lanning is young and learning. How long is this learning curve? We have another rivalry game coming up November 24th. I am not sure Dan Lanning understands how important these two rivalry games are to the faithful. Next time Dan, take the points. Oregon State will come in with a chip on their shoulder and it appears they are better coached at game time. GO DUCKS!

Even though the coaching decisions were suspect, a  lot of this loss comes from lack of execution at crucial times.  If some of those crucial plays were executed correctly, we wouldn't be lamenting right now.  Also,  what's up with Camden Lewis...multiple kickoffs out of bounds and missing field goals after being rock solid for the first 4 games?

Oregon is nowhere to be seen on espn ncaaf home page, I just looked. Wierd, they are the #8 team in the country. Probably the most balanced team and the starting Heisman contending QB had over 300 yrds, 3 td and no TO's.

Is it about respect or something else? Has there ever been a time that the #8 team, after a huge blowout win, is left out of the conversation? Ever?

Dan's pregame speech was not well recieved with many. Some nasty things were said about Oregons coach.

I don't know what it means, if anything. Recent history makes you wonder though.

But just win, let them ignore Oregon. Conference alignment shows the power of espn to dictate terms of how college football will operate and be narrated.

Hmm... very strange if you ask me.

Well, at least their FPI rankings have Oregon as one of the 4 playoff teams.

My fear, and almost my hope, is that they are destroying the very product they are messing up for the rest of us.

FOX and ESPN will sing another tune if most (or at least a significant number) of us just stop watching. Then their media markets won't mean anything.

Unfortunately, boycotting doesn't really work in sports where people's connection to the products are bound by highly emotional and competitive factors.  I for one, could never stop watching the ducks or the conference they play in, no matter what happens amongst the media landscape.

That the Pac-12, Conference of Champions, is for all intents and purposes gone.

Much like a historic building no one thought at the time was worth saving, I think in hindsight this is a sad day.

When you have something that historic, and worth saving, extraordinary steps should have been taken.

I put this on Larry, then the presidents, and then George. I might even put the presidents at number 1.

You l always have to watch out for the smartest guys in the room, because they are morons! Sorry, but I have seen this scenario too many times.

Extraordinary steps is what happened in order to keep the Ducks relevant.

They should be equally as worried about Ohio State, Michigan and some other B1G's, if not more so.

I do think there is still a DeAnthony Thomas effect in play.  Not sure how much longer Oregon will be able to ride that.  The answer is to have W-L success as the Thomas factor fades.  Getting him was big at the time, but not sure most Ducks fans truly understood how big.

Exactly.  All those recruits that say "oregon has always been my dream school"... Are referring to that magical era of duck football when they were 8, 9, 10 years old watching incredible Deanthony film high lights on a weekly basis.  You're right.. that pool of recruits is dissipating, so it's important to re-kindle that magic, now that we're on the big stage in the B1G.

  15. Wow, it's coming quick!  It sucks to realize though, the ducks wouldn't make the playoffs this year even with that expansion.  After such a dominant strong start (save for the Georgia game.) and spending most of the season in the top 12.  So disappointing.

Yeah... USC has some defensive problems.

I know Oregon kept Colorado to 10 points but I feel our defense has some major problems but at least we only really let Cal score on us in garbage time.

Yea those 2 interceptions by Gonzalez really helped ensure the score stayed low for Colorado, by stealing  2 extra possessions from them, otherwise I didn't like how Colorado was moving the ball against the Duck D.

I should think last year's performance against the Ducks would give you more confidence than that.

I think there should be an asterisk (*) next to both those game results.  Cristobal had given up on the team at that point and was concentrating on getting to Miami, so there was minimal game prep and I'm sure players were hearing the rumors and  getting distracted, maybe causing low morale.  That, combined with his inept offensive scheme gave the Ducks no chance.
