One of my fondest memories was being 13 years old with my dad sitting in the old grandstands yelling “Cruz” for Joaquim Cruz who brought Oregon a men’s track and field title in 1984 by doubling up and winning in the 800 and 1500 meters. Man that guy was smooth!

The first and only athletic event I attended while a UO student was that NCAA Championship where Joaquim Cruz led the men’s team to catch and beat Arkansas for the title.  It was absolutely electric.  I became a lifelong track and field fan and Hayward Field regular after that day!

I think Oregon winning out is a question that comes down to two items.  Can Oregon's offense stay in sync for every remaining game and can Oregon's defense bend but not break to keep Oregon in the lead.

I agree with much of your take but, at the risk of stating the obvious, would be explicit in saying that the single greatest factor to the Ducks’ continued success this season is the health and confidence of Bo Nix.  If Bo falters for any reason then the wheels will come right off this offense.

I have to say that I was really surprised to see the sellout numbers.  Not being from Oregon, I have a different impression of Autzen that I think is probably pretty common among my fellow Ute fans.  Here was my perception:

Autzen has probably sold out every game in the last decade

Loud and intimidating - especially for big games - similar to playing at Utah

Always thought Eugene was bigger than it actually is and closer to Portland

My thoughts on expansion would be to hold off - unless the stadium is full every week and there is a mile long waiting list for season tickets, it will ruin the atmosphere to have a bunch of empty seats

Interesting take.  I’ve heard good things about the atmosphere at Rice-Eccles.  I’m looking forward to watching the Ducks play there next season.

Correct, the state of Oregon is not showing the Charges game on Fox.

The 506 Sports NFL Map you shared earlier this week has been updated:  it now appears that the only Oregon market that will get the ATL-LAC game on Fox is the Eugene-Corvallis area.  Portland and the rest of the state will be stuck with the Seahawks.

Chris Petersen. History at Oregon, proven.  At a minimum, it would excite the fan base and bring fear to conference opponents. Especially one up north.

I think Petersen is a great coach and high integrity guy but question whether he still has the requisite fire in the belly.

So sick of this guy.  Do not get in a bidding war with Miami over his services - it is fools gold.  Think more about a buy out and trying to get Chris Peterson to come out of retirement - now there's a real coach we can get behind!

Petersen is done, lost his fire

I think Oregon players like an angry crowd too. I know what they don't like... No crowd at all. Some of their worst play has come in quiet stadiums either because fans weren't allowed or because those aren't energetic stadiums anyways.. looking at you cal and Stanford.

I think you’re right about the Ducks playing less-than-inspired football in quiet stadiums.  That said, I was at the Stanford game, thought the Ducks fans were numerous and vocal.  Unfortunately the Stanford fans also woke up at the end.

Cardwell is next level. He reminds me a lot of Freeman... A bigger back that can run physically but knows he doesn't have to and can explode with some surprising speed. Maybe even a Thomas tyner type back... For the short about of time tyner was healthy that is.

I'm only making more recent comparison because it's what I know. I am sure there are better ones and I saw some better ones posted above.

That’s it, Thomas Tyner.  Cardwell reminds me too of Tyner.  Hoping Cardwell is durable.

Such incompetence at hiring by the AD across all Washington sports makes me very grateful for Rob Mullens...regardless of some major mistakes with Helfrich and Taggart--he has really hired well across the board in his other major decisions.

It is another example of how Oregon is smarter than Washington...

And perhaps Mullens’ recent tenure leading the CFP Committee has contributed at least a little this season to the Ducks’ favorable position in the top.

What a bozo. Lake tries to insult the Ducks and instead assaults the English language. His "more academically prowess teams" comment is a grammatical nightmare. Instead of giving interviews that embarrass his school, maybe he should attend a few freshman English classes.

Lake’s “academically prowess” comment was simply meant to divert attention away from his team’s lack of footbally prowess.
