After Oregon's ace starter, Jace Stoffal, did not pitch on Friday night, the Ducks turned to freshman Leo Uelmen. It's still unclear as to why Stoffal didn't pitch on Friday night.

Uelmen struggled in his start, allowing six runs in 2.1 innings pitched, allowing six hits, and only two strikeouts. From there, USC's starter, Blake Sodersten, dominated the Ducks, holding them to one run over seven innings, coupled with 11 strikeouts. Oregon's two runs were the lowest run production since winning 5-4 against Cal.

The Ducks' loss was their third straight after dropping the final game against No. 20 Arizona State and losing to No. 15 Oregon State in a midweek matchup on Tuesday.

Oregon will likely send RHP Logan Mercado to the mound on Saturday, who's looking to improve on his previous performance against the Sun Devils. Mercado allowed four runs to the prolific Sun Devil offense, striking out a career-high eight batters. Oregon needs a competitive outing from its starter, as the previous three starters have allowed 12 earned runs in 8.1 innings pitched.

Oregon's starting lineup on Saturday:

  1. Rikuu Nishida RF
  2. Colby Shade CF
  3. Drew Cowley SS
  4. Sabin Ceballos DH
  5. Tanner Smith LF
  6. Jacob Walsh 1B
  7. Drew Smith 3B
  8. Josiah Cromwick C
  9. Gavin Grant 2B

Late inning rally gives No. 17 Oregon game two victory over USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — After putting together a 4-1 week against No. 20 Arizona State and Gonzaga, No. 17 Oregon would, once again, attempt to get its first win of the week on Saturday against USC.

After falling behind early, Oregon’s comeback attempts would strike in the seventh inning, recording four runs with two outs against USC starter Caden Aoki. Oregon’s late-inning rally propelled them to a *insert final*, recording its first victory of the week.
