NJDuck Moderator No. 1 Share Posted May 11, 2023 Eighteen members of Oregon's 2023 signing class enrolled in classes this spring to get a jumpstart on their collegiate careers. Over the next few weeks, we'll be reviewing their progress this spring and what they figure to provide the program this fall. Today, we begin this series with defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 44th-rated overall prospect /7th-rated EDGE player Height/Weight: 6-foot-5 / 265 pounds Outlook this fall: Uiagalelei wowed the Autzen crowd in in his debut spring game. His blend of size, strength and athleticism were hard to miss, and he finished with two tackles and one tackle for loss. The hope is that that April 29 was a sign of things to come and not a fluke. Given what was said throughout spring, it seems the former is more likely. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 2 Share Posted May 12, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Kenyon Sadiq Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Kenyon Sadiq showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with tight end Kenyon Sadiq. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 115th-rated overall prospect /4th-rated athlete Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 220 pounds Outlook this fall: Of the freshmen who enrolled for spring, few entered a more advantageous situation. Sadiq was one of three scholarship tight ends on campus, and by the end, one of just two available to play in the spring game. He finished the spring game with two catches for 25 yards. With Terrance Ferguson sidelined for the final 10 or so practices of spring, the true freshmen saw an elevated practice role for a young player. All of that could ultimately pay dividends in Sadiq's short-term development. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 3 Share Posted May 13, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Austin Novosad Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Austin Novosad showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with quarterback Austin Novosad. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 131st-rated overall prospect /10th-rated quarterback Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 185 pounds Outlook this fall: A winter signing day flip, Novosad jumpstarted his collegiate career with early enrollment to become the third scholarship quarterback on hand for spring camp. Tall but still quite lean, Novosad will need time to physically develop before being asked to contribute at this level. That's not a bad thing. The Ducks aren't in need of immediate contributors with two more advanced quarterbacks already on the roster — including Heisman Trophy candidate Bo Nix. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 4 Share Posted May 15, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Dante Dowdell Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Dante Dowdell showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with running back Dante Dowdell. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 134th-rated overall prospect /Sixth-rated running back Height/Weight: 6-foot-1.5 / 210 pounds Outlook this fall: The bigger bodied Dowdell stood out in the spring game with his physical running style. A 14-yard second half scamper acted as the day's longest run and saw the freshman plow over a few players and drag more for extra yardage. While Dowdell's rushing stats were fairly meager in total (seven carries for 32 yards), they acted as a game-high. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 5 Share Posted May 16, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Johnny Bowens Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Johnny Bowens showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with defensive lineman Johnny Bowens. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 211th-rated overall prospect /26th-rated defensive lineman Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 265 pounds Outlook this fall: Bowens certainly looks the part. Wide bodied and thickly built, the freshman is said to be pushing 280 pounds already. While Bowens may one day have the mass to play on the interior, he worked primarily at defensive end when media watched practice and during the annual spring game. Bowens wasn't credited with any statistics on April 29. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 6 Share Posted May 17, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Ashton Cozart Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Ashton Cozart showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with wide receiver Ashton Cozart. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 224th-rated overall prospect /32nd-rated wide receiver Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 195 pounds Outlook this fall: Cozart possesses all the skills to take the top off of a defense. He's tall and well-built with difficult to match top-end speed (he ran 10.74 in the 100 meters in high school). It's unlikely the Texas native shows much of that in 2023 though. Junior Adamsworked tirelessly to reshape the WR room this offseason. That meant adding big-time prep receivers like Cozart, but more importantly three top transfers. With Traeshon Holden, Gary Bryant and Tez Johnson now in the fold along with returning starters Troy Franklin and Kris Hutson, playing time will be hard to come by for the cohort of younger receivers. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 7 Share Posted May 18, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Cole Martin Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Cole Martin showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with cornerback Cole Martin. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 239th-rated overall prospect /28nd-rated wide receiver Height/Weight: 5-foot-10 / 175 pounds Outlook this fall: Martin had arguably the most impactful spring game of any freshmen participant. He was credited with three tackles and a pass break-up. His play popped too, as he exhibited impressive coverage skills as well as a highlight play or two in run support. It's no surprise that CB coach Demetrice Martin's kid is a bit more advanced than other freshmen on the roster, but his spring game impact was larger than just about anyone had expected. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 8 Share Posted May 19, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Jayden Limar Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Jayden Limar showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with running back Jayden Limar. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 294th-rated overall prospect /18th-rated running back Height/Weight: 5-foot-11 / 190 pounds Outlook this fall: One of two early enrollee running backs on hand for spring, Limar appeared to make strong first impressions. Veteran running back Noah Whittington referred to the freshmen pairing of Dante Dowdell and Limar as "thunder and lightning" with Limar's speed impressing during offseason training. Limar's spring game was a fairly quiet one. He carried the ball twice for six yards and caught one pass for 14. He also memorably dropped a pass for a would-be third down conversion. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 9 Share Posted May 22, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Iapani Laloulu Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Iapani Laloulu showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with offensive lineman Iapani Laloulu. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 342nd-rated overall prospect /18th-rated offensive lineman Height/Weight: 6-foot-2 / 355 pounds Outlook this fall: The younger brother of Faaope Laloulu, Iapani is an interior offensive lineman unlike his brother. You won't find many more widely built than "Poncho" (his nickname), who undoubtedly possesses the necessary heft to play at this level already. Despite what teammates and position coach A'Lique Terry describe as a strong first spring, it would be a big shock if Laloulu sees the field often in 2023. The Ducks have more experienced returners and also added two transfer offensive guards with ample starting experience. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 10 Share Posted May 23, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Tyler Turner Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Tyler Turner showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with safety Tyler Turner. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 354th-rated overall prospect /34th-rated safety Height/Weight: 6-foot / 180 pounds Outlook this fall: One of two prep safeties to arrive in time for spring, Turner's first months on campus appear to have been productive ones. His position coach Chris Hampton referred to Turner as "fearless" and said he has the makings of a leader on the back-end. The freshman didn't record any stats in the spring game though, and it would be a surprise if he plays often on defense this fall. The team returns two battle-tested safeties in Steve Stephens IV and Bryan Addison and has also added transfers Evan Williams and Tysheem Johnson to the room too. Because of that, there won't likely be a spot in the two-deep for either freshmen safety in 2023. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 11 Share Posted May 24, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: George Silva Here is a breakdown of what Oregon junior college transfer George Silva showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with offensive lineman George Silva. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / Fifth-rated overall junior college prospect /top-rated junior college offensive tackle Height/Weight: 6-foot-7 / 295 pounds Outlook this fall: The lone junior college addition this offseason, Silva is expected to fill an immediate role in the two-deep as a tackle. While Silva played left tackle at Fullerton College, he worked almost exclusively on the right side during spring practice. That was where he operated when media watched practice and again in the spring game when the teams were split. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 12 Share Posted May 26, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Gernorris Wilson Here is a breakdown of what Oregon freshman Gernorris Wilson showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with offensive lineman Gernorris Wilson. Recruit Stats: 4-star prospect / 385th-rated overall prospect / 23rd-rated interior offensive lineman Height/Weight: 6-foot-5 / 285 pounds Outlook this fall: Wilson missed all of spring with an unspecified lower leg injury. Because of that, it's hard to assess Wilson's current skillset or his chance to make an immediate impact. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 13 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: My'Keil Gardner Here is a breakdown of what Oregon freshman My'Keil Gardner showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with defensive lineman My'Keil Gardner. Recruit Stats: 3-star prospect / 492nd-rated overall prospect / 53rd-rated defensive lineman Height/Weight: 6-foot-2 / 275 pounds Outlook this fall: By the time fall arrives, the Ducks are expected to have 10 true freshman defensive linemen on campus. More than half those players were on campus for spring, and few received more praise than Gardner. Senior teammate Casey Rogers referred to the Arizona native as "one of the most advanced freshman" he'd seen technically, and praised his efforts to pick up the scheme. Some of that showed up in the spring game, when Gardner was credited with one tackle and a pass breakup. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 14 Share Posted May 31, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Teitum Tuioti Here is a breakdown of what Oregon freshman Teitum Tuioti showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with edge player. Recruit Stats: 3-star prospect / 517th-rated overall prospect / 49th-rated edge player Height/Weight: 6-foot-3 / 220 pounds Outlook this fall: The son of defensive line coach Tony Tuioti, Teitum is not currently in his father's room. He instead has worked with defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi as an edge player/outside linebacker. Tuioti had some nice moments in the spring game. He finished with two tackles, a quarterback hurry and one dropped interception in the end zone. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 15 Share Posted June 1, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Solomon Davis Here is a breakdown of what Oregon freshman Solomon Davis showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with defensive back Solomon Davis. Recruit Stats: 3-star prospect / 708th-rated overall prospect / 49th-rated safety Height/Weight: 6-foot / 184 pounds Outlook this fall: Among the more under-the-radar recruits in Oregon's class, Davis committed on signing day in December without much fanfare, as the day brought many other surprises. Davis was likely overlooked when he arrived as well, as the lowest rated defensive back to enroll for spring. He showed a little something while media watched though, flashing his speed and explosiveness before parlaying that into a pair of spring game tackles. NJDuck Author Moderator No. 16 Share Posted June 3, 2023 Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Tevita Pome'e Here is a breakdown of what Oregon freshman Tevita Pome'e showed during his first spring football camp. Today, we continue this series with defensive lineman Tevita Pome'e. Recruit Stats: 3-star prospect / 714th-rated overall prospect / 79th-rated defensive lineman Height/Weight: 6-foot-3/ 315 pounds Outlook this fall: The wide-bodied freshman from Utah looked the part physically in his first spring camp. Well over 300 pounds already, Pome'e looks ready to play nose tackle at the heart of the defense. Senior Casey Rogers commended the way Pome'e "transformed himself in the weight room" and noted that he'd "come along way" over the course of spring. He was credited with one takedown in the spring game.
