NIL collectives are organizations that seek to assist athletes in the process of finding and completing profitable opportunities, as well as negotiating their compensation packages. Below are what On3 deemed were the 10 most "ambitious" NIL collectives in college sports. I didn't know much about NIL collectives before writing this, but it seems to me that the success or failure of an NIL collective is largely dependent on the amount of money being pound into the program, however, there are non-monetary factors that play into the success of certain collectives, which is the most interesting part to me. At No. 3 Oregon - Division Street Division Street unites the two ultimate NIL brands: Oregon and Nike. For years Phil Knight has been doing everything he can to infuse Nike with Oregon athletics, but with the existence of NIL, his ability to synergize those brands is greater than it has ever been. The nexus of Nike’s marketing scheme is athlete-focused endorsements. Whether it is Steve Prefontaine or Cristiano Rondalo, Nike loves to be endorsed by athletes, but before the existence of NIL, collegiate athletics was an untapped marketplace of athletes to endorse the Nike brand, which is what Division Street has sought to capitalize on. As pointed out in On3’s article, one of the more successful ventures created out of Division Street is Ducks of a Feather, an apparel brand that is “made by student-athletes, for student-athletes.” The young brand has limited inventory, but the inventory they’ve had has all sold out rather quickly, which could be a sign of longevity for the brand, as well as the profitability for the athletes involved.
