The Ducks were in shells Monday and are scheduled to be in full pads Tuesday. They'll be off from practice on Thursday of this week, and they'll cap the week with a scrimmage on Saturday. How will things change for the Ducks? We know that they will be playing on a bigger stage, and against some of the best competition in the nation, but will they need to alter anything that they do? How drastically will the gameplan have to change in order to compete in that league against the Ohio State’s and Michigan’s of the world? Fortunately, Oregon has a couple of people both on the current roster and the coaching staff who are familiar with Big Ten play. Defensive line coach Tony Tuioti and defensive lineman Casey Rogers both came from the Nebraska Cornhuskers a year ago, so they know what it’s like to play in the Big Ten. Oregon football's crop of true freshmen are impressive in 2023, with a couple all but assured to play meaningful downs throughout the season, especially as it progresses. With pads coming on and scrimmages set to ramp up during the second week of fall camp, will any see playing time during the Ducks' season opener at home Sept. 2 against Portland State? Oregon's coaching staff said it isn’t ready to declare any freshmen as contributors yet. But they do like what they've seen from a few of them. It's not often a player will transfer out of a conference only to find their new team is moving back to where they came from. For Oregon defensive lineman Casey Rogers, he finds himself in that tiny iota of players. For Rogers, though, he won't be able to join the Ducks as they pioneer into the Midwest and Big Ten country. Following the 2023-2024 season, Rogers will be out of eligibility, but that doesn't change the four years he spent in the Big Ten as a member of Nebraska, and it doesn't change his knowledge of the conference. Rogers spent the majority of his collegiate career navigating through the Big Ten, playing in 14 games, including the pandemic shortened 2020 season. Rogers recorded 42 tackles, six tackles for loss, and two sacks in "big boy" football. The move by Oregon to the Big Ten may not have surprised some, but for the fan bases, it certainly shocked the masses. Despite the shock of the move, Rogers, during a media session on Monday night, added some perspective for the fans of what this move will mean from their lens. The Ducks added track star Micah Williams to the football team as a walk-on wide receiver. Williams is 5-foot-8 and has a personal record in the 100-meter dash of 9.91 seconds. In comparison, freshman corner Rodrick Pleasant as a PR of 10.13 seconds. He started his prep career in Nebraska for Lincoln Southeast where his Dad coached at Nebraska. After his father Tony took his current job with Oregon, Teitum followed his Dad last fall and enrolled at Sheldon high school in Eugene. In Eugene, the younger Tuioti turned into a star recruit as he led the Irish to a second-place finish at the 6A level and he was named a 2023 Polynesian Bowl All-American. Teitum went from a 3-star recruit into a 4-star prospect that was viewed as one of the best edge defenders on the west coast in the class of 2024. Now at Oregon, father, and son are enjoying a unique experience as they work together to win a Pac-12 Championship for the same program. "Just seeing him every day. You know, as a dad, in this profession, you miss a lot," said Tony of being able to now be around his son every day and coach him. "Just being around your kids and not being able to see them but to see him in the building and see him in meetings and, you know, see him out of practice. It's a really, really cool experience."
