Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 5 Share Posted August 16, 2023 Smoke, poor air quality forces Oregon inside Moshofsky Center for practice At times on Tuesday, Eugene and the rest of Lane County dealt with some of the poorest air quality in North America. The Air Quality Index flirted with a maximum value during the early afternoon, proving enough to move Oregon's football practice indoors. Dan Lanning and company were forced to call a late audible when the figures surpassed the threshold allowed for outdoor practice and instead held the day's workout inside the Moshofsky Center. "A change of scenery a little bit. We've been going outside, but we had to go in the indoor today just because of some of the smoke," he said in his opening comments. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 8 Share Posted August 16, 2023 Oregon football: Ducks' inside linebackers bulk up to be a ‘more relentless’ unit Coach Dan Lanning wanted the defense to get bigger and stronger this offseason and the Ducks inside linebackers appear to have received the message. Though Oregon hasn’t revealed official weights of its players, several have confirmed what the eyes can see — most are bigger and stronger than what they played at in 2022. “Ultimately, I didn’t think we had enough knock-back tackles last year,” Lanning said. “We have to be a team that has knock-back tackles and not lose yards after contact. You start doing that by getting in the weight room and I think our guys challenged themselves to do that.” Oregon football: Ducks' inside linebackers bulk up to be a ‘more relentless’ unit WWW.REGISTERGUARD.COM Coach Dan Lanning wanted the Oregon defense to get bigger and stronger this offseason and his inside linebackers appear to have... Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 9 Share Posted August 16, 2023 'He's a raw talent': Oregon players and coaches impressed, entertained by WR Jurrion Dickey If you were to take a random poll of 100 Oregon Duck fans going into the 2023 season, asking them which young player they are most excited to see in the upcoming months, I think the overwhelming answer would be wide receiver, Jurrion Dickey. As a former 5-star recruit, and the second-highest-rated receiver to ever sign with the Ducks, expectations are high for Dickey. He was rated as the No. 2 WR in the 2023 class, and the No. 18 player in the nation. His reputation precedes him. While Dickey was not in Eugene for the spring football season, he has been able to take flight with the Ducks over the past few weeks once fall camp started. In many ways, the true-freshman WR has made a strong first impression on players and coaches in Eugene. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 10 Share Posted August 16, 2023 P Matthew Rigney on transferring to Oregon: 'It's an opportunity I couldn't pass up' In mid-May, Oregon landed a commitment from graduate transfer punter Matthew Rigney. Rigney, an Australian native, transferred from Austin Peay State University in Tennessee in a rather unexpected move. Oregon's special teams struggled in 2022, failing to play up to the consistency levels that head coach Dan Lanning and special teams coordinator Joe Lorig demanded. Rigney was a definition of consistent at Austin Peay, earning All-ASUN Conference honors last season. Rigney averaged 40.9 yards on 44 punts last season, with eight landing inside the 20, four for 50-plus yards with a long of 57. Of Rigney's 44 attempts, just two landed as touchbacks. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 11 Share Posted August 16, 2023 Lanning provides film review insight into first scrimmage, looks ahead to second scrimmage Oregon held their first of what is expected to be three fall camp scrimmages this past weekend, and after having a chance to review and grade the film Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning gave his input on his takeaways from the day's camp. "There was a ton of things you know, looking back, I mean, ultimately, we want to tackle better, we're gonna take care of the ball better a lot of things that I walked away with saying right after the scrimmage, still hold true," said Lanning. "Situational you got to play a little bit better situational ball, red area, two minute, for both sides of the ball. But we have to stop the run better defensively and have to do a better job in those situations offensively." Fresh off the football field after the scrimmage Lanning cited the need for Oregon to play more consistently over the entire length of practice. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 12 Share Posted August 16, 2023 Oregon long snapper Luke Basso showing signs of something special in fall Oregon may have one of the nation's best long snappers this year, and only the diehardiest of diehards know his name. Sophomore Luke Basso is slated to replace Karsten Battles, who held the job for the past five years, as the team's primary snapper this fall. Few know much of anything about him, and that's exactly how the Lake Oswego native wants it. "As a specialist, at least for a long snapper, you don't want your name to be called," Basso said on Tuesday evening. "That's just part of the job. It's going out there, executing and having fun, really."
