Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 2 Share Posted August 18, 2023 Oregon Football Fall Camp Updates: Practice No. 13 The Ducks were in shells on Friday afternoon for their final workout prior to Saturday's scrimmage inside Autzen Stadium. Out of full pads and with a competition date less than 24 hours away, contact was far from a premium. Media, which watched about 20 minutes, took in a different selection of drills, including a basketball-style box out drill among the team's linebackers, defensive backs, running backs and wideouts, along with a new variety of individual and positional drills. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 6 Share Posted August 19, 2023 LB Jamal Hill making further adjustments at linebacker as season approaches Oregon's Jamal Hill is in his second camp in his new position, linebacker, and is continuing to adjust but finding bright moments. Jamal Hill hasn't played linebacker long. The move was officially announced in spring camp 2023, and the physical announcement has been noticeable. Moving from safety, Hill has put on a few pounds to carry the physical burden. Hill, listed at 226 pounds, is "still getting used to" moving around with the new weight, but after weeks and weeks of practicing and repping at linebacker, there is a downside he didn't see coming: Offensive linemen stepping on your toes. "I don't know, in my opinion, it's got some similarities. Like hit them before they hit you," said Hill regarding his approach to attacking C and D gaps. "The biggest change is you have to be ready to get your toes stepped on. They're 300 pounds, and when they step on your toes, it hurts." Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 9 Share Posted August 19, 2023 Oregon OL coach A'lique Terry details NFL lessons from Justin Jefferson, Kirk Cousins One of the most valuable and underrated facets of the coaching staff that Dan Lanning has built with the Oregon Ducks is that a lot of the members have NFL experience. Former offensive line coach Adrian Klemm won Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and spent time coaching most recently with the Pittsburgh Steelers before coming to Eugene. Defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi was with the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to accepting the job at Oregon. Most recently, after Klemm left Eugene to go back to the NFL, landing a gig with the New England Patriots, Lanning brought in another coach from the NFL ranks — this time A’lique Terry, a former defensive line coach with the Minnesota Vikings. While Terry most recently spent time coaching defense, he has a long history of coaching offensive linemen, which started with the Ducks as a graduate assist for Mario Cristobal. Terry talked to media members on Friday and said that his time spent with the Vikings was incredibly valuable, if for no other reason than he got to see how NFL stars prepare and work hard to perfect their craft. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 10 Share Posted August 19, 2023 A'lique Terry updates competition for Ducks' starting center position Taking over for someone with the stature and pedigree of Alex Forsyth is no easy task. After spending several years at Oregon and acting as one of the most consistent pieces on the offensive line, checking in and out of coverages with ease and keeping one of the nation’s best offensive lines together in 2022, Forsyth’s departure to the NFL certainly leaves a hole behind him. Now it is up to someone on Oregon’s roster to fill that void going into 2023. There are a number of players competing for the starting spot at center under new OL coach A’lique Terry, and going into the third week of fall camp, the competition is starting to reach a head. “Right now, we’ve still got a solid competition,” Terry said after practice on Friday. “We’ve got Jackson Powers-Johnson in there. We’ve got Marcus [Harper] in there. We’ve got Iapani Laloulu. Charlie Pickard and Kanen Rossi. We’ve got five guys right now who are all doing a tremendous job.” In the spring, it was viewed as a competition mainly between Powers-Johnson and Harper. However, Terry says that the other guys on the depth chart have done a great job of upping the level of competition and pushing those guys at the top. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 11 Share Posted August 19, 2023 A'lique Terry provides O-Line status update two weeks before season opener Oregon offensive line coach A'lique Terry outlined where each of the team's O-Line competition stand two weeks before the team's first game against Portland State. Very little about last year's offensive line remains this year. For starters, A'lique Terry has replaced Adrian Klemm as the position coach, and four of last year's starters have moved on too. Because of that, the team enters Saturday's second and final scrimmage of fall with a lot of healthy competition but also with a lot of uncertainty of how the puzzle will ultimately fit together. Terry spoke with media on Friday evening, providing updates on where things stand across the O-Line. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 12 Share Posted August 19, 2023 Oregon OL Junior Angilau: 'I do feel like I'm back. I feel like I'm 100-percent, I'm ready' One of Oregon's new additions on the offensive line, Junior Angilau, feels ready for the 2023 season with coaching guidance from A'lique Terry. As two weeks separate Oregon from its week one opponent Portland State and the beginning of the 2023 season, there are still plenty of question marks regarding the team. After losing four of five offensive line starters from a season ago, the offensive line rotation and where players line up remains one of the biggest questions left. Oregon added through the transfer portal to alleviate some of the questions, bringing in talented transfers Nishad Strother (ECU), Ajani Cornelius (Rhode Island), and Junior Angilau (Texas). Angilau was one of the top transfer offensive linemen on the market, entering the college football pseudo-free agency as a multi-year interior starter for the Longhorns. Angilau suffered a season-ending injury in his final fall camp with Texas, not playing a single down in 2022. Because of the injury, Angilau was limited in spring camp with the Ducks, going through the motions and learning the new offense but rarely participating in full contact instances, including the 2023 Oregon spring game. Now, a year removed from the injury, Angilau is ready to dive in with his new team. Oregon OL Junior Angilau: 'I do feel like I'm back. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 13 Share Posted August 19, 2023 Freshman Iapani Laloulu impressing teammates and coaches While a starting role feels unlikely, a freshman offensive lineman is turning heads and drawing praise for his development since his arrival on campus. At media day in early July before the Oregon Ducks had even broken camp there was a buzz around an incoming true freshman that few people perhaps were expecting to generate the buzz. That player was 4-star offensive lineman Iapani Laloulu or Poncho as he is often called by his teammates. Senior defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus was the first player to bring up Poncho's potential and impressive skillset. He raved about the 6-foot-2, 325-pound offensive lineman's ability to move and how athletic despite his large frame. "He moves pretty good on the field, laterally, it's crazy," said Dorlus. "He does a good job. He's got a great future ahead of him." Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 15 Share Posted August 19, 2023 How are Oregon football's transfer receivers adjusting to new setting? Though the Oregon football team’s wide receiver room has the stabilizing force of quarterback Bo Nix’s favorite target in Troy Franklin, the Ducks aggressively combed through the transfer portal over the spring and summer, adding three high profile targets ahead of the 2023 season. Those faces, including Tez Johnson (Troy), Traeshon Holden (Alabama), and Gary Bryant Jr. (USC), have been working to connect with Nix and the rest of the team before the season kicks off Sept. 2 against Portland State. Nix was the new guy last year, and quickly acclimated himself to his new situation, recording career-high numbers in completions, pass attempts, completion percentage, passing yards, passing touchdowns, and his quarterback rating. This year, it’s not Nix that’s new, but most of the faces in his receiver room. How are Oregon football's transfer receivers adjusting to new setting?
