Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 2 Share Posted December 2, 2023 Social media reacts to Oregon Ducks brutal loss to Washington Huskies in Pac-12 Championship Game It wasn’t the outcome that the Oregon Ducks were hoping for, but it was one incredibly thrilling finale to the Pac-12 Conference as a whole. The No. 3 Washington Huskies beat the No. 5 Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship game, 34-31, clinching their spot in the College Football Playoff and completing a perfect 13-0 season. It started out rough for the Ducks, falling behind 20-3 in the first half. However, Bo Nix led the team to 21-unanswered points to take a 24-20 lead in the third quarter. From there, though, Michael Penix and the Huskies took control of the game and went on to win. Oregon scored a late touchdown on a bomb from Bo Nix to Traeshon Holden, but they were unable to stop the Huskies on the other end. It was a roller coaster of emotions for Duck fans on social media, who were down pretty bad in the first half, saw some major hope in the third quarter, and then ultimately crushed. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 11 Share Posted December 2, 2023 Ducks Wire Player of the Game: Terrance Ferguson gives the Ducks a shot It didn’t seem like the Washington Huskies could twist the dagger they have in the Oregon Ducks any further after their win back in October, but that’s what they did in their 34-31 win in the Pac-12 Championship on Friday night. Things started ugly for Oregon. Washington was the more physical team and Oregon’s offense couldn’t stay on the field. With a few minutes left in the first half, it looked like the Ducks would head into the locker room down 3-20. But, the Oregon offense strung together a few chunk plays, got down to the goal line, and cashed in for a TD on a beautiful catch from TE Terrance Ferguson... Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 14 Share Posted December 2, 2023 Ducks meet familiar fate vs. Washington in Pac-12 title game loss Oregon quarterback Bo Nix was in an introspective state of mind after what might have been his final college football game Friday night. When it ended, as Washington running back Dillon Johnson took a pitch for 18 yards on third-and-9 with less than a minute remaining, Nix sat motionless on the end of the Ducks bench with a towel over his head. He remained like that as the final seconds ticked off to seal the Huskies' 34-31 win in the Pac-12 championship game and as the other sideline erupted in celebration and streamed onto the field. Nix had plenty on his mind as the No. 5-ranked Ducks (11-2) came up just short yet again to this Washington team -- the second loss this season and third in the last two seasons, all by 3 points -- and came up just short of what would have likely been a College Football Playoff berth. "Football's a tough game, and sometimes you put it all out there and you come up short," Nix said afterward. "There at the end it was just one of those things where you want the moment to last longer than what it can, and even though we lost it was one of those type of games it was really fun to play in. It was just a shocking end. It's tough when you're so used to go, go, go, go, go to when it ends, it's like, it just happens very quickly. ... Bo Nix wasn’t. Five years and 60 games into his college football career, the Oregon quarterback woke up Friday morning three wins away from a national championship. By the end of the night, there was nothing left to play for. “You don’t prepare for losing,” Nix said quietly. Purple confetti still littered the field inside Allegiant Stadium. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 17 Share Posted December 2, 2023 8 major takeaways from Oregon's heartbreaking 34-31 loss to Washington in Pac-12 title game The Oregon Ducks had it all laid out in front of them when they woke up in Las Vegas on Friday morning. A spot in the College Football Playoff, a Heisman Trophy and the last Pac-12 Championship trophy in the sport’s history. All they needed to do was execute. It wasn’t going to take anything that they hadn’t proven week in and week out that they could do. They just needed to play their game for four quarters and beat a solid Washington Huskies team, something many believe they were capable of. In the end, they couldn’t. They couldn’t start hot and grab early momentum, and they were unable to get key stops late in the game when it mattered. Ultimately, they were unable to advance in what was looking more and more like a dream season that belonged in the Oregon Ducks history books. Now, they will be left with a New Year’s Six Bowl game that will likely be played with a backup roster and a depth chart that is a shell of what it currently looks like. And they will spend another year wondering if the dream of hoisting a national championship trophy in Eugene is actually possible. It’s a tough reality for Oregon fans to swallow, seeing that dream fade once again, but it’s not a season that should be forgotten any time soon. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 18 Share Posted December 3, 2023 Stock Report: Ducks' defense struggles, while 3rd-down offense goes missing vs. Huskies Typically this season, when we’ve gone through a post-game stock report to see which players on the Oregon Ducks roster improved or struggled the most in a game, we’ve found mostly positives to focus on. That shouldn’t come as a surprise when talking about a team that went 11-1 in the regular season and made an appearance in the Pac-12 Championship Game. However, when you manage to lose that Pac-12 Championship Game to your biggest rivals, the Washington Huskies, in a fashion that has become all-too-familiar over the past couple of years, it’s hard not to find the many areas where improvement is needed. That’s the case for the Ducks on Saturday morning, who woke up with a bad taste in their mouths after a 34-31 loss to Washington that felt like it shouldn’t have been that close, ultimately. With the loss, Oregon missed out on a spot in the College Football Playoff, and they likely saw QB Bo Nix miss out on a Heisman Trophy as well. For Oregon fans, the feeling of disappointment is likely pretty prevalent on Saturday morning as well. As we continue to dive into the game to find out what went wrong and what went right, let’s go through our stock report to break down a few individuals...
