Tez Johnson Talks about the Oregon Win vs Idaho

Oregon receiver Tez Johnson was one of the big returning wins for Dan Lanning this offseason. Johnson brings back a ton of experience and a 1000+ yard season from a year ago.

Despite a sluggish offensive output, Johnson was a key target for Dillon Gabriel against Idaho. He was able to record 12 catches for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns in the season opener.

As you can expect, Johnson was not satisfied with the team’s performance on Saturday despite the win.

Grading the Oregon Ducks position groups after disjointed 24-14 win over Idaho

This first report card of the 2024 season isn’t going to be pretty, but we can only hope Oregon got its one clunker of a performance out of the way. Because if they didn’t, the Big Ten is going to be tougher than they ever imagined.

But a win is a win and the Ducks are 1-0 and the defense was up to the challenge for the most part. Here’s the report card for Week 1.

Offensive Line

Grade: D

This is where a lot of the offensive problems stemmed from, as the linemen weren’t able to dominate a vastly inferior defensive line in FCS Idaho. It was quite the opposite at times. The Oregon coaching staff challenged the line on a 4th-and-1 from their own 36-yard line and the Ducks weren’t up to the task, getting stopped short in their 14 personnel package. Oregon also gave up three sacks in the game, which is more than half of what the team gave up in the whole 2023 season.

Injuries have impacted the rotation up front, but the Ducks still should have the talent and depth necessary to dominate an FCS school. This was a terrible showing for A’lique Terry and his unit.

DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM

A win is a win, but Oregon needs to play better as the 2024 season moves forward.

Oregon Tumbles in Latest ESPN FPI Rankings

As you could expect there has been some fallout from Oregon’s tight win over Idaho on Saturday. There was some shakeup in the updated ESPN FPI rankings as a result of the 24-14 victory for the Ducks.

Oregon entered the weekend as the No. 2 team in ESPN’s FPI rankings. They left the weekend sitting barely in the top ten and No. 10. Georgia remains at No. 1 following a dominant win over Clemson.

Of note, Miami moved up 12 spots following its win over Florida. The Canes are at No. 11 one spot behind the Ducks.

After a less than impressive win over Idaho the Ducks find themselves dropping in the updated ESPN FPI rankings.
