A Generous AP Poll Drops Oregon to No.16 After Loss to Minnesota

Recommended Posts

I was thinking a bigger drop, maybe into the 20's, NET dropped from 22 to 27.

Wow, pollsters must not have watched the game or they thought UM was Michigan.  I really don't understand that at all.  It's a terrible loss, and it was an ugly loss as well.

I am not nearly as high on this team as I was in December, rebounding continues to be a problem, shooting is so inconsistent you have no idea what you are getting from most guys on the roster, at times there is a lack of toughness to set good screens or get around screens.  We just don't seem to lock in until the second half, and you can't get away with that constantly.

Only good things to come out of that last game are that Bamba and Angel have now had two games in a row where they showed up, unfortunately Bittle had his worst game of his career.

Not that I think unranked NC State is going to keep this going, but they lead No.2 Duke, 37-33 at halftime at Cameron Indoor, which maybe wild for this era, but has nothing on, "The Pit". The scoreboard isn't shaking at all.

Duke wins, 74-64.

Ducks drop to the 4 line in ESPN Bracketology and still in the West.  No.16 is a little high, but this is when Altman's teams take off, and hopefully Minnesota was rock bottom.

The UCLA game will say lot I think.  Bruins had a rough stretch after their game against us, but they seem to have righted the ship, they'll be playing at their place, when they played us they had their best shooting night in forever.  If we can pull out a win, even better a relatively comfortable win (7-14 points), then I will feel a lot better.  If we lose or even worse get stomped then I'll be very pessimistic about this being a typical Altman team getting better through the season (I will love to be wrong though about that!!!!).

I do admit it's easy to forget that college basketball has ebbs and flows to it.  Only the top 1-4 really don't have a blip in the season.  Hopefully we've had ours, and we start to get some real momentum.  If we can win this one, hold serve at home against Nebraska, that sets up a HUUUGGEEEE trip to the Michigans schools, great opportunity there!

I always like playing the away game first, and UCLA has gone through more highs and lows than the Ducks have, Minnesota was a big B1G low. Everything about the team was its best in the tournament when they beat Alabama. The ebbs and flows are there. When the team starts out so great, the ebbs are harder to take. Hopefully, Angel & Bamba keep going and Bittle, Shelstad and the rest will join them in Pauley.
