The first part of Canzano's article is on Pat Casey.  Skip farther down to the section talking about the  Big 12 taking a page out of the PAC12's playbook by hiring an outsider to the world of college athletics.

 

According to Canzano, it appears college athletics, at least a couple of cases, is turning towards executives with experience in sponsorship, licensing, entertainment and brand strategy.
