Ducks head to the Bay Area for a chance at two important road wins

The Oregon Duck men's basketball program heads down to the Bay Area for road matchups against two of the bottom three teams in the Pac-12 standings. This week presents a chance for Oregon to claim big wins and continue their pace to push back into the league's top four in the standings.

The Bears have had a rough start to the season. Cal lost 12 straight games to open the season, becoming the last Power 5 program to win a game this season.

Oregon men’s basketball opens must-win week in Bay Area against Cal

There is no margin for error for the Ducks (10-8, 4-3 Pac-12), who stand to benefit marginally if they

beat Cal (3-15, 2-5) Wednesday night or last place Stanford at Maples Pavilion on Saturday.

But a loss in either game, especially tonight against the Golden Bears (No. 248 in NET), would be the

a fatal blow to whatever scant chances Oregon still has of attaining an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Dane Miller’s Jan 18 Oregon-Cal Pac-12 Men’s Hoops Preview

Both teams have revitalized confidence in their play and enter the matchup expecting to win.

Last year, the Bears shocked the Ducks in a 14-point victory in Eugene and look to make it back-to-back upsets.

Jermaine Couisnard changes the dynamic of Dana Altman’s team with strong shooting from the perimeter. Without him, Oregon was one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the nation.

Oregon will need consistent production from the South Carolina transfer throughout the remainder of the year.

Oregon delivers the blowout needed at California

This was the performance we needed to see from the Ducks after that impressive 19-point win at home last weekend

over Top 10 Arizona. Teams who make it to the Big Dance find ways to turn ugly basketball games into good wins.

Cal's only hope this season to win is to muck the game up so badly, slow the tempo way down, and hope the pace and

style of play throw their opponent out of wack.

A win over California will not register on the national scale for the Oregon Ducks, as that's just how bad Cal is this season.

That doesn't negate the performance and the outcome being impressive.

Five Double-Digit Ducks Lead to Victory at Cal

The Ducks won back-to-back games for the first time this season in conference play, following up their breakout win over Arizona at home on Saturday with Wednesday's win on the road. Oregon improved to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in Pac-12 play, a roller coaster start to the season that now has some positive momentum as the team has gotten healthy over the past two weeks.

"I just loved the energy the guys brought," UO coach Dana Altman said. "We've just got to do it 12 more times (over the remainder of the regular season). We've had our bad nights — and every team has them in a 31-game schedule — but we've used all ours up. We've got to find a way to bring focus, discipline and effort 12 more times. If we do that, I'll take our chances."
