Oregon heads to Stanford for a chance at the rare Bay Area road sweep

The Oregon Duck men's basketball program will try and accomplish a feat done just three other times in Oregon men's basketball history when they face off at Stanford Saturday night. A win will give the Ducks jus the program's fourth road sweep of the Bay Area schools in the modern era of college basketball.

Stanford has historically been a tough place for Oregon to win, but Oregon has found more success under Altman's time as head coach. The Ducks are 13-7 overall against Stanford under Altman, and they've gone 5-5 in games played at Maples Pavillion.

So now option #1 to make the Tournament is to win the Pac-12 tournament. Option #2? There is no option #2..............

Recipe for losing a game: bad defense, poor shooting. This Ducks team is a Jeckyll and Hyde phenomenon.

Wow, just wow.  I'm so done with this team.  We have absolutely no alpha dog, no leadership, no one to hold anyone accountable when encountering any resistance.  This team seems to get so full of itself when it wins one game that it thinks it can just slide by piss-poor competition (see Stanford, UC Irvine, Utah Valley) without having any fight/passion.

My wife had given me the ok to go to Vegas in March and enjoy the Ducks in the Pac-12 tournament and I was excitedly making plans (flight, hotel, tickets, etc.).  After tonight, it's just not worth it, I think I'll pass.  I'll just go play some poker at some casino here on the East Coast.

Oregon men’s basketball fall to last place Stanford

Oregon had the dud it couldn’t afford and its already remote chances

of attaining an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament are likely over.

It's so frustrating. Seems this team continually falls behind early in games and waits until the end to try to get it going. You're right, we have no alpha dog, like a Payton Pritchard, to motivate/energize this team when it's needed. Also, I don't remember a Duck team so bad with shooting slumps, bad defense and missing free throws. We had so many chances to win this game, but it just wasn't to be.

Oregon lays a dud in a near must-win game at Stanford

The Ducks failed to get the elusive second win of this road swing. Now Oregon's NCAA Tournament at-large chances are on thin ice.

Stanford shot above 50 percent from the field for just the fifth time this season, and the Cardinal shot the second-best shooting percentage of the year on 3-pointers. As Oregon's defense allowed a poor shooting Stanford team to get hot, the Ducks fell 71-64.

As poor as Oregon's defense was in the game, their offense was equally as bad. The Ducks shot below 40 percent from the field, failed to draw fouls for free throw attempts, and finished the game shooting just 14 shots from the line.

The loss to a Stanford team with now just seven wins on the year, Oregon will see its gains in the NET rankings drop hard.

Cold Shooting Night Dooms Ducks

Stanford was blistering hot in the first half and the Ducks never really got going in a loss Saturday to the Cardinal.

The Ducks shot 37.9 percent Saturday as the Cardinal earned just its second win in Pac-12 play this season. Oregon

led for less than a minute of action and trailed by as much as 17 in the second half before a late surge.

This team really depends on Richardson for their leadership and when he's not on the team is flat.

With a team that changes so much years to year having that core guy that has been with the team is super important. Most of the past "it" guys came to Oregon out of highschool and where developed into l leaders that could hold the team together when the going got tuff.

Really hoping Jackson Shelstad will be that guy going forward.

Pac-12 basketball bubble picture gains clarity with Oregon losing to Stanford, CU losing to Washington

We entered the past week in Pac-12 men’s basketball knowing that if Oregon and Colorado were going to make any

move in the pursuit of an NCAA Tournament berth, they needed to get on a roll and stay hot for several weeks.

That very clearly did not happen this past week.
