Oregon women’s basketball guard Te-Hina Paopao playing through ‘some physical issues’ amid career-worst stretch

Paopao has been held under 10 points for each of the last three games, a career first, and scored 15 total points while shooting 14.3% from the field, including 8.3% from three during that span.

“She’s got some physical issues and trying to play through it,” Graves said. “Bless her heart, she’s giving it everything she’s got, man.”

Kelly Graves: Oregon women’s basketball needs ‘three or four more wins’ to be in NCAA Tournament

The Ducks (14-9, 5-7 Pac-12) have fallen entirely out of the AP poll and are No. 19 in NET, but are 1-7 against teams in the top 30, with the lone win coming against USC, which was without its leading scorer at the time.

“We’re very desperate,” guard Endyia Rogers said. “Coach said it today, that we’re only guaranteed seven more games. We’ve got to start winning some games so that we can get ourself over the hump and be ready come tournament time.”

FOUR-GAME ROAD TRIP BEGINS IN LA

Oregon begins a four-game road trip Friday at USC, as the Ducks look to snap a season-long three-game skid in Los Angeles. The Ducks (14-9, 5-7) sit in an eighth-place tie in the Pac-12 standings after dropping five of its last six games.

The Ducks have won 12 straight games against the Trojans, their longest winning streak in the series' history, including a 73-45 win in Eugene on Jan. 1. In the season's first meeting, Endyia Rogers scored a game-high 19 points while Phillipina Kyei hauled in a career-high 20 rebounds. UO has won six straight on the road against USC and seeks its sixth consecutive regular-season series sweep.

Can Oregon women’s basketball disrupt USC, snap three-game losing skid?

If Oregon is going to snap its three-game losing skid and earn quality wins this weekend in Los Angeles it has to improve defensively, particularly in creating takeaways.

Most alarming is conference opponents have a 1.46 assist-to-turnover ratio, with assists on 65.5% of plays and turnovers on just 14.9% of plays, according to HerHoopsStats. Those are both extremes for UO during Kelly Graves’ nine years leading the program and illustrate how Sunday’s 100-92 loss to Utah, which had 29 assists and just 11 turnovers, was not merely an aberration.

Oregon opens four-game road swing with must-win at USC

Oregon (14-9, 5-7) has dropped three straight and 8 of its last 12 games to slip below .500 in Pac-12 play. They now hit the road for two consecutive weekends with Friday's game at the Galen Center acting as the first of four straight away from Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks are now tied for eighth with Washington in the Pac-12 standings.

USC (17-6, 7-5) is tied with crosstown rival UCLA in the Pac-12 standings at fifth. They've won six of eight games following a slow start in conference play, which included a 28-point loss to the Ducks in Eugene on Jan. 1.

USC rallies from double-digit deficit to hand Ducks fourth straight defeat

Another Oregon win streak came to a close on Friday evening with the Ducks losing their first game in seven years to the USC Trojans.

The Ducks, who'd won 12 straight in the series, led by as many as 14 points in the first half before losing any semblance of offensive momentum in the second half to drop their fourth straight games. The Trojans outscored the Ducks by 13 points in the second half to pick up the 56-51 win at the Galen Center.

The defeat is not only the team's fourth straight but also drops them to 5-8 in Pac-12 play and keeps them in eighth place alongside Washington.

Oregon women’s basketball scores season-low in first loss to USC since 2016

It’s Oregon’s eighth loss to a NET top 30 team this seaspn compared to just one win, 73-45 over USC on Jan. 1, with just five regular season games remaining.

“As a coach I’ve got to help them figure this thing out,” Graves said. “We’re losing opportunities here. ... When things don’t go right our body language changes a little bit, almost like, ‘Well we’ve seen this before and this is what’s going to happen.’ We’ve got to break that cycle, we do, we’ve got to find a way to do that.”

Endyia Rogers scored 14 points and Grace VanSlooten added 10 points and five rebounds for the Ducks, who shot only 34.5% from the field — the fifth time in seven games, all losses, UO was held under 40% — in a 56-51 loss to the Trojans Friday night at the Galen Center.
