Oregon baseball hosts Niagara in midweek matchup

Oregon hasn't announced its starter yet for Wednesday's matchup but with midweek games comes an opportunity for younger players to showcase their talents.

Oregon has not had a midweek game this season, so it's unclear what the pitching rotation will look like for Wednesday specifically but in years past, head coach Mark Wasikowski has shown a tendency to work multiple pitchers into games who don't often see normal playing time.

Pitchers like Turner Spoljaric, Jacob Hughes, and Logan Olsen, amongst others will likely get a look on Wednesday.

Pitching woes continue as Oregon drops midweek matchup to Niagara

As Oregon looked to flush the memories of a 16-0 loss to No. 12 UCLA, they hosted Niagara in its first midweek game of the season.

Oregon's slumping ways continued into Wednesday, resulting in a surprising 8-5 loss to the Purple Eagles.

Pitching woes continued into a new week and fresh opponent, as the Ducks sent Turner Spoljaric to the mound for his first career start. Spoljaric found himself in trouble early and often during his outing, as he was pulled in the second inning after allowing a double, single, and walking a batter for a bases-loaded jam.

"I just don't think we pitched particularly super well and we didn't get the clutch hits we needed," said head coach Mark Wasikowski after the game. "But in terms of the execution of pitches and free bases, that was an issue."
