Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 4 Share Posted March 24, 2023 Ducks continue Pac-12 gauntlet with homestand against No. 3 UCLA This week, Oregon will continue a difficult opening stretch of conference play as UCLA visits Jane Sanders Stadium just one week after No. 7 Stanford traveled into Duck territory and came away with a pivotal series win last weekend. The No. 3 Bruins will travel to Eugene at 27-3 on the season, as the No. 19 Ducks are tasked with their third consecutive top-ten opponent. In the two series prior, Oregon went a combined 2-4 as No. 10 Washington and the aforementioned Cardinal each picked up tightly-contested series wins. Starting this Friday, the Ducks will look to flip the script against arguably their toughest test yet. As they sit in seventh in the Pac-12, an upset win, or two, could come in handy. “This last series, we got one, we could’ve gotten two,” head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “So we’re right there, we’ve just got to keep continuing what we’re doing. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 15 Share Posted March 25, 2023 Ducks Take Opener With No. 3 Bruins, 3-0 Morgan Scott threw a shutout and Terra McGowan drove in two runs for the No. 19 Ducks, who host the Bruins again Saturday in Jane Sanders Stadium. Playing their third straight series against a top-10 opponent, the Oregon softball team made a strong opening statement against No. 3 UCLA on Friday at Jane Sanders Stadium, shutting out the Bruins, 3-0. UO senior Terra McGowan homered in the first and had an RBI double in the fifth for the No. 19 Ducks (20-8, 3-4 Pac-12). She also caught pitcher Morgan Scott, who followed up her win over Stanford the week before by again going seven innings without allowing an earned run to a top-10 opponent, this time the Bruins. "Morgan's coming into her own," UO head coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "You can see she's really settling in and understanding what she's wanting to do. And I just love it. I love that our team just rallies around her, just the energy that she gives off. These guys want to play really, really hard for her." Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 30 Share Posted March 26, 2023 Series Even Entering Sunday's Finale The No. 19 Oregon softball team squandered some precious opportunities Saturday in a loss to No. 3 UCLA. Oregon rallied back from an early deficit but UCLA struck the two biggest blows Saturday as the No. 3 Bruins evened the series with the No. 19 The Ducks (20-9, 3-5 Pac-12) scored twice in the first inning for a 2-1 lead and got a two-run homer from Terra McGowan in the sixth, but a grand slam by the Bruins in the fourth and a two-run shot in the seventh were the difference. In a game that featured just a single 1-2-3 half inning, UCLA was 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position while Oregon was 2-for-17, as the Ducks left 11 runners on base. "The grand slam, it's tough — that one hurt — but you're never out of it," UO coach Melyssa Lombardi said. "I mean, we're standing in the last inning and we've got the tying run at the plate. So we're in this game; you can't leave that many runners on base." The Ducks stranded runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, and had runners at second and third when the game ended. Pennsylvania Duck Author Moderator No. 40 Share Posted March 26, 2023 Ducks Drop Finale to No. 3 Bruins Oregon had chances again Sunday but couldn't break through for the lead before UCLA rallied in the seventh. More missed opportunities hurt the Oregon softball team Sunday as the No. 19 Ducks missed out on a chance to take a series from No. 3 UCLA by losing 6-2 before 1,824 fans at Jane Sanders Stadium. One day after leaving 11 runners on base, Oregon stranded 10 on Sunday. The Ducks (20-10) fought back from an early deficit to tie it 2-2 through three innings, but missed chances to take the lead left the door open for UCLA to take control with a four-run seventh inning.
