  • Denigrating Other OBD Members Examples

    From the Rules:

No. 6: No denigration, disparagement or even minor belittling of another poster or writer on the site; there is no need for it. State your case and let the information or the strength of your argument win the day—but trying to denigrate a fellow Duck fan for a difference of opinion is not allowed.

No. 6a) We look at the tone of the post; does it have an aggressive tone or a bit of a bite to it? (Even if tiny) If so, we delete it. Throwing shade at another member comes in many subtle forms such as, “if you understood….or if you thought this through…,” etc. and while these are benign, they are derisive, and nobody wants to be on the receiving end of it. All posts can be written without an aggressive or dismissive tone.

No. 6b) Are you being “polite and respectful” in your post? The preponderance of posts deleted fail this simple test, as OBD is the civil site, the forum with decorum. If you cannot be nice to your fellow OBD members, then this is not the place for you.

    Examples:

“Relax Darren. The Ducks will light it up, and play defense too.”

This is condescending to anyone it is directed at, and we don’t allow it.  State your opinion without making reference to anyone else.  Do NOT tell anyone how to think, feel or write in this forum.

“FSU? SMU? Houston?  Maybe we ought to rename the conference to the "Pac-Everywhere".  I'm being factious, of course, and I get your argument on time zone coverages, but seriously?  SDSU and BYU, yes, that's makes good sense.  Maybe UNLV.  Why not Montana?”

This is snarky and sarcastic; it is rude to a fellow OBD member and unnecessary.  State your opinion without making reference to anyone else.  Do NOT tell anyone how to think, feel or write in this forum.

I would like to know if you guys have done your homework on Georgia? Kirby Smart has recruited and coached up arguably some of the best defenses in college football.

This is condescending to anyone it is directed at, and we don’t allow it.  It is also rude and not allowed on the OBD forum.  State your opinion and that is it!

“Did you shake off your fleas before entering?

Infantile insults are not allowed here; this is the nonsense we seek to avoid at the OBD forum.

Wow- this is pretty pathetic.  You're really reaching here and that is very telling.”

This is condescending to anyone it is directed at, and we don’t allow it.  It is also rude and not allowed on the OBD forum.  State your opinion and that is it!

“The Ducks have a ways to go, for sure but did you expect DL to come in and - as a Dawg poster noted in another thread - magically transform the team in 8 months?”

Make your point without being snarky to a fellow OBD member.

“HaywardDuck, I know you weren't writing to be funny, but "what, are they afraid of us!" was the funniest thing I've read all day.

And you were not meaning to be insulting to him…but you were.

“I always find it amusing how people are so willing to spend Phil Knights money so they can sit in their living room and cheer for the team that won a NC. Seems like a good use of his money to me…I’m sure he’s on board too.”

Above is group shade, although it was directed at one member and is also snarky and sarcastic.

“…to dictate that a SEC 2 star across the board is better than a west 4 star is just silly.”

Above is mild, but a violation; nobody wants to be told their view is silly. (Even if it is—we do not allow it)

The fascination I have is….”is it really that hard for people to be nice?”  And for some people that answer is….”yes!”

Below are Examples of Attacks When They Could Have Just Disagreed, and Stated Their Opinion:

“Ducks knock off ucla/usc.  Majority of uo “fans” could care less.  I doubt 10% of uo football followers could even name Altman as uo bb coach.   The great lanning hires a virtual anonymous non-descript trivial assistant coach and the Oregon football boards light up for a week.”

"Oh my God.  Go watch the tape, check the injury report, and then tell me these athletes lack heart.

Don’t question the heart of these athletes from the safety of your couch — come on!"

"______  (OBD Member) just seems really passive aggressive and dumb, so am giving him benefit of the doubt."
