Well that was... something. I'll take the win, but our offense needs to figure stuff out this week and become more on par with our defense.
I will say that I'm very proud of OBD for fighting through adversity and sticking it out to get the win. Even though it was a close game it was still a good learning experience, and there will be many lessons learned.
Game ball should be split between the defense and Atticus Sappington. 🦆
Now let's hope they fix that offense up so when they face the mutts in 2 weeks they can light them up at home, and Dan will get his first win against the purple puppies.

The best QB in the world with a porous O-line will not do as well as a pedestrian QB with solid protection and decisive blocking.
This statement is so wrong... just ask Shedeur Sanders!
Oh, wait. 😆
I really liked seeing Urban gush over our defense! And I hope his faith in Oregon is vindicated in January! -
I received an email from Rob Mullens on Friday, but I didn't notice it until this morning. I have never received an email like this before, and it has me a bit curious. 🤔
For those who didn't receive one, I'll summarize below:
The message is from Oregon Athletics to their supporters, explaining upcoming changes in college sports and their impact on the university. Here’s what it means in a summary:
1. New Financial Changes: Due to legal settlements, colleges may soon share revenue directly with student-athletes, especially for their name, image, and likeness (NIL). This could cost Oregon over $20 million annually, on top of current expenses.
2. Scholarship Rule Changes: The NCAA may allow unlimited scholarships but limit total team roster sizes. This change could double the number of scholarships, adding significant costs (around $14-$15 million more each year).
3. Increased Costs: Oregon Athletics, which operates without university funds, must cover these new expenses. They’ll need to find additional revenue or cut costs while continuing to support their 20 sports programs and 500 athletes.
4. Transition to Big Ten: Moving to the Big Ten Conference provides new opportunities, better stability, and greater visibility for Oregon Athletics, but they still need strong supporter backing to thrive under this new financial model.Overall, it’s a request for continued support as the university adapts to major changes in college athletics funding.

Yeah I kind of figured the way Miami's been playing that their luck would finally run out. Also I knew that the Mario Cristobal style of football would finally do them in because, well, as Oregon fans we've seen it first hand.
So while Miami is exposed for the overrated team that they are, Ohio state looks to have figured out their defensive woes, and their offense looks deadly again. Granted it was Purdue.
That Ole Miss - Georgia game is going to be interesting. And it's going to be interesting to see how Indiana's offense matches up with Michigan's defense.
Man, I love fall Saturdays. 😃

Imagine if LaMichael James had six years to play—his stats would be untouchable. We can't even assess if Jeanty will surpass LaMike's yardage after just three seasons.
Dillon Gabriel is a talented QB, no doubt, but like Bo Nix last year, his record-breaking numbers are benefiting from extended eligibility and extra games, which inflate the metrics.
But the Heisman is about this season, not a career. And right now, Jeanty is delivering an incredible performance.
Gabriel is a fantastic college quarterback, but is he Heisman-worthy? Honestly, I don't think so—at least not yet. However, the season isn't over, and we don’t hand out the trophy in the middle of it. It’ll be interesting to see how this race unfolds.
If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on Jeanty, as long as he keeps up this level of play.
As for the original topic, I think I agree with those who say that the Heisman ceremony date should be left alone as it does reflect the season.

My heart will be rooting for OBD, but my brain says they're just not at the same level... yet. Chipper will rejoice as he silences the loudest place on the planet. (I know once a Duck always a Duck, but I don't think Chip was ever a Duck. Imho.... Harsh?)

While I’m eager for Oregon to win, the offense hasn’t yet demonstrated the consistency needed to compete at the level required to beat a team like the Buckeyes.
I’ll be cheering for Oregon with every ounce of my yellow and green spirit, but I’m also bracing for what could be our first—and perhaps only—loss of the season.
That said, if the Ducks can replicate their defensive performance from the Spartans game or improve upon it, and the offense makes significant strides in blocking, explosive plays, and execution in the passing game, I believe it could be a highly competitive match up.
As always, Go Ducks!!

BTW this game seemed like a compilation of "you just can't make this stuff up!". James fumbling out of bounds, Whittington dropping the ball before the end zone, Sappington hitting the goal post on a PAT, and so on. Animal House and John Belushi "live"; Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? GO DUCKS!
Lol, The war with the Germans was in the 60's in NE Russia, silly. Great reference!

I just hope we will be one of the logs in that jam behind Ohio St. and dare I say it, "that team down south".
Stein and company now need to start game planning for a porous Oline.
One of the things that bothered me was Dan's/Will's play calling late in the 3rd when we were behind the sticks deep in our territory and they run 3 in a row Mari style.
Those two missed bombs are glaring. Dillion has to have better touch and anticipate the separation.
It’s clear that those missed opportunities stand out, and it’s true that Gabriel needs to refine his touch on deep throws. However, there’s likely more at play here. It’s possible that Gabriel was overly conscious of avoiding a sack, which affected his timing and anticipation. When a quarterback is concerned about the pressure, it can disrupt their rhythm and make it harder to deliver the ball with precision. Improving his ability to trust the protection and anticipate separation earlier will be key to hitting those deep passes more consistently. There's definitely room for growth, but his awareness in the pocket should also be factored in.

You’ve done a great job capturing the mixed emotions that come with watching a team that shows both potential and areas for concern. It’s understandable to feel a mix of happiness from the win and frustration from the mistakes that could have cost the game. The offense made strides but still has room to grow, especially with those fumbles cutting promising drives short. There’s clearly talent on the field, but they haven’t quite hit their full stride yet.
On the defensive side, it’s tough to see a group that should be more dominant give up that many points, especially to a team they were expected to handle more easily. Still, there’s time for them to gel and develop into a more cohesive unit, and you’re right that recruiting and depth in the trenches often separate the top teams from the rest.
As for where fans go from here, it’s easy to lower expectations or feel guarded after seeing some vulnerabilities. But this could be the time for fans to really show up and back the team, knowing that they’ll need to fight for every win. The season’s far from over, and with the talent they have, there’s still plenty of room for growth and success.
One day at a time. Let's Go Ducks!
