Since 2007 USC has been one of the most underachieving programs in all of CFB. They didn't make one BCS Title Game( remember that game was first implemented for the 2006 season). They didn't make one four team playoffs. They've swiped two coaches from P4 big name programs, yet done zip.

This. USC should be getting more of the blame for the demise of the PAC, but instead they failed up.

    Fun to think about!

What if we had lost to Arizona (@home, attendance 36k) the next week instead of winning 10-9?

I was a senior in the student section the day of the pick, what if instead of never studying and getting a 3.20 in high school I had studied 30 minutes a day, got a 3.50 and gone NROTC at UW like I applied for?

    🤔

I kinda wish we would go back to playing amateurs.  As in the top college players.  It’s  kinda cool to see our NBA players, but anything short of gold is a massive disappointment.  If we played our top college players it would be more interesting to me and mean more to win gold.

    Curry went bananas!

People would put up with not medaling for about 3 seconds, which is what would happen if we unilaterally stopped sending our best players. Not to mention, how do you define amateur with NIL? Even HS players have NIL.

When you’re hoping for 12-0, every game is a trap game really. We also have both us and Purdue playing in Corvallis back to back in September for a direct comparison, that’s bound to be fun.

So hard to say how this will unfold as far as number of wins correlating to making the playoff. For all we know the SEC winner could have 3 losses with the increased competition…or maybe it will be the same as always with Alabama and Georgia dominating. Countless scenarios in our new conference as well.

Be most curious to see how comfortable teams are with their playoff outlook at 10 wins.

The post season outcomes that aren’t involving a playoff birth all pretty much suck btw. How about the scenario where a team (any team) goes 10-2, ranked #10, doesn’t make its conference championship, and doesn’t make the playoff. It is completely possible. #10 and in the Alamo Bowl, yum! Hopefully they’ll be able to get some good matchups of non playoff teams and elevate a few bowls….but something tells me we’ll be getting a depleted #10 from a P2 versus random 8-4 team.

Is it irritating that UCLA got a ride along invite with a 100 percent instant stake? Yeah. But they do bring things that Oregon just can't, things outside of thirty years of constant improvements can bring.

One is Los Angeles. Fox which wrote the check for this is located there, it's the second largest market in the country. The closest metro area that is in the top 50 in Oregon is Portland.

UCLA also offers up a top 10 public university(USC is private). They have money tied up that the B1G will only add to with their public land grant deals. Seriously look at the money bring generated here on the academic side. You know the egg head presidents of the B1G were salivating over that. Oregon brings the boom with Nike, Football, marketing, and track and field. UCLA brings in Los Angeles, Rose Bowl, basketball, Olympic sports(I don't know them all) and several top research grants.

The B1G now has UCLA, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Illinois as Public Ivies. Along with private academic heavyweights like USC and Northwestern. Every school except Nebraska is a member of the AAU.

The SEC only has Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Florida, and Georgia as elite public institutions. Vanderbilt is private.

So UCLA is valuable to the B1G in ways they wouldn't be to any other conference. So I don't get to jealous when they got brought in at a higher rate. Their athletic department is running in the red prior to this move anyhow. Just like most of the former PAC members like Washington.

Spot on. It’s nearly impossible for every conference addition to be a juggernaut at football. Adding a school that’s been the #1 public university for 5 years, is located in LA, plays at an iconic stadium, and has one of the most storied basketball programs ever…these things have a fair amount of appeal.

Oh and my daughter is a senior to be there 😜

As the UW explained at that time.... a large "maybe" with the Apple deal was incentives which were a big risk factor for revenue; and, there was no linear component lined up at that time.  UW was very aware of what that might mean for recruiting going forward.

Ultimately, OS and WSU were certainly interested in a linear component as well which they found with The CW, albeit at a low payout.

Some of Beavs fans made fun of the UW for seeking a linear guarantee, now they are touting the "visibility" that comes from the number of households with access to The CW.

That’s their routine…mock the foolishness of the travel involved with a nationwide conference while looking for any hopeful rumor they might be getting secretly invited to a nationwide conference.

Blind with envy at every turn.

    Interesting.

Even if every mark was hit, the most optimistic version of the P12 “deal” was horrendous. Purely from a short-term (least important aspect IMO) fiscal perspective, this was a no brainer. The larger implication of being in a P2 in the current landscape really trumps everything in my view.

The only version of the PAC9 continuing that would have been worth considering would have been if we were guaranteed a larger share (double) coupled with a legitimate TV deal and the PAC champ being guaranteed a playoff spot. Even with that, the move with a half-share is still the better option, but it would have been worth considering.

    Great rundown! 😵‍💫

Be interesting to see how much the committee manipulates their own rankings to fit their bracket…as I understand it, the rankings aren’t determined by a third party. The only thing they can’t manipulate is conference champs, which I suppose was the point originally.

Who cares about this guy's opinion? Tide fans?

No more or less bias than any other hack out there 😆

I do think Michigan is being a bit undervalued, they still have some tremendous players in the trenches on both sides, a stacked D, and a HB that looks like a day one prospect. That combo can go a long ways with in the B1G.

Never take anyone lightly, but unless one of their QBs really breaks through, their offense is really going to struggle.

The team slipping under people’s danger alert is BSU in week 2. They’ll be fired up, have an NFL caliber HB and very good QB, not something OSU can say.

Oregon Ducks, SC's 2024 schedule gives SC a chance, even if in the minds of the media it's not a B1G chance. SC does not play Ohio State or Oregon in 2024.

SC's schedule strength is goosed by playing LSU and Notre Dame out of conference. A loss or even two losses OOC will not impact the conference race. Notre Dame visits LA for the last regular season game. There is a lot of football to be played before the Domers come to Tinsel Town.

In even years the Ducks have 5 conference home games. SC is on the road for 5 games in even years but on the whole, the road games are not that difficult. Troy makes a 3M road game circuit: Michigan, Minnesota, and Maryland. SC also plays UW in Seattle and the Rose Bowl vs. UCLA. Penn State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Rutgers, all visit LA.

With The Grinch Who Stole Defense gone, SC made tackles in space vs Louisville. And SC's speed advantage in the Holiday Bowl was obvious. SC has a Blue Chip Roster and few 'traditional teams' in the B1G can match SC's speed. Will a total coaching change on the D side of the ball make a difference on both lines of scrimmage? We'll get an early look in 2024 when SC opens against LSU, a team that also had a suspect D in 2023 and like SC has made significant coaching changes on defense.

If QB Miller Moss can come close to his Holiday performance, SC has the chance to go 10-2.

They definitely have a shot at 10-2, but I think they need that opener to do so. I’d call 8-4 if they lose to LSU. Hopefully be a fun one
