Anything that reduces the impact of voting for a champion and moves it to the field is good in my book. Imagine how different NFL history would be if it was a 2 or 4-team playoff, or if March Madness was a field of 8. Personally, I have always thought if you want a true national champion, then have a playoff and do it right. I’m also good with no playoff at all and having traditional bowls and arguments…this time period of having a foot in each era was always annoying to me, pick one.

What About Beavis? Not Even G5 Love?
JabbaNoBargain replied to JabbaNoBargain's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Speaking of Beavis (with the still unannounced, imminent, intergalactic tv deal scoop broken by the Clown, for the 10th time last week), I see Grand Canyon will soon be joining the WCC for hoops. Reality sandwiches for all! -
Oh no! Not even considered as a “G5” contender. Though technically, I believe it’s now the highest ranked G5 conference champion that gets in, and Beavis is not in a G5 conference…but I don’t think this article accounted for that nuance and this is more of a top-12 non-P4 list. 2024 Playoff - Puddles Flight to Atlanta will be Turbulent
JabbaNoBargain replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
While unlikely, there have been quite a few recent examples of teams with 3+ losses making their conference title game. Why risk it? Win your conference championship game, sure you get the reward of an auto bid, just like hoops...but seeding should be based on ranking. It's such a simple fix, I don't understand the upside of potentially having a team go 8-5 and getting a #4 seed. Lot of perks with those first 4 seeds. -
2024 Playoff - Puddles Flight to Atlanta will be Turbulent

Great run down. It’s pretty ridiculous that conference champions automatically get an advantage. You could conceivably have a 7-5 second place finisher score an upset in their championship game and get a top 4 seed for winning that one particular game. A team with 4 or 5 losses should never get a top seed, auto-bid is already generous enough if something like this happens. Learn from March Madness. We would have been a 1 seed last season with this logic. -

has broken the story like 10 times. -
If UW finishes 6th the conference should be embarrassed.

I mean, OU made the playoff 3 times, but gave up an average of 54 in those 3 games. Blue bloods shouldn’t need gimmicks to compete. Gimmicks are what you use when you have a talent deficit to spring some upsets and go 8-4. There’s a reason air raid doesn’t dominate the NFL. Curious to see how this might apply to Chip this year.

Yep, their only hope to “take back” LA was to eliminate the competition via re-alignment. They were going to be sitting pretty when all P12 schools not called UCLA were going to be suddenly recruiting from lesser conferences. This is an in your face 2-fer. They aren’t taking back LA, and we actually now have less competition in LA than before.

Oregon Ducks Football: Biggest Position of Need
JabbaNoBargain replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Pains me to say it, but we just hit a buzz saw called UW last year. UW felt like smoke and mirrors to me all year, but 10 players drafted including 5 offensive players in the first two rounds say otherwise. Given we lost by 3 points twice with our perceived shortcomings and injuries, I think the only real problem we had last year was that UW was stacked on offense and extremely motivated in the P12 title game. What I see now on our roster seems considerably better overall. I don’t think we’ll see a team with the same passing game this year, that was pretty unique and still barely took us down. If I was being picky, not sure how fantastic our LBs actually are overall as a group. Would love to have a first round destroyer in that group. -
Also worth noting that two particular coaches they fired since PC are now quite successful. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.

I love how they think LR is undeniably the best active coach at any level of football. There is a chance, just saying, that he’s not. Then again, compared to everyone they’ve had post PC I can see why they’d be confused.

I think it depends on the start. Opening with LSU first and foremost, is a potential recipe for disaster with a new QB going against a good SEC team with lots of dudes. If they get shoved around, they follow up with Utah State, @Michigan, and Wisconsin. I think if LSU does shove them around they have a recipe for a 1-3 start. Let’s just say I question their resiliency if they start with a loss. Totally agree f they’re good enough to beat LSU then all will be well. -
I thought Pete C mastered the “bag game” for a hot minute before it came crashing down? I guess they can only compete in the “bag game” when it’s illegal.

They actually have 9-10 games on the schedule that wouldn’t shock me if they lost any one of them. I’m by no means saying I think they’re going 2-10, but I could easily see (maybe even predict) them losing half of those games. Tough conference schedule with a handful of under the radar, Utah style schemes designed to kill a bad D front. Throw in LSU and ND for non-con as well, and I have a hard time seeing them doing better than 8-4. -

Dude revealed he does actually think 5 or 6 losses are possible even if he’s not predicting it. Looking at their schedule, I agree. -

Because living in LA means better NFL development? No idea what the logic is, it’s not 1972. If that quote in anyway reflects the mindset of people actually inside the program, it would explain a lot. -
Ducks Come in Number Three in This Wayyyyy to Early Top 25
JabbaNoBargain replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think LR has an established track record of not caring about D at two blue-blood programs now, and is entering a smash mouth league. It’s like they have to play the doppelgänger of Utah 5 times this year, and we’ve seen how that went. Make or break year I think. Could they do it? Maybe. Will they? I have my doubts. -
