From one of their forums today, the only football topic with a ton of activity at the moment…and it’s 6 pages deep, this is the mindset lol
QuoteThe problem, as I see it, you are imagining that hole is anything but shallow, vapid, corrupt, unscrupulous and evil. They are the epitome of what is wrong with college sports.Playing them adds legitimacy to their corruption. They have cheated, stole and bought their way to where they are. I am sorry, us playing them for a paycheck is not in my future. Not saying I will quit attending or watching, just do not agree with it.I see it in reverse of how you see it - playing them elevates them - not the other way around. I would be right there with you if we were discussing the UofO of old - up until roughly the mid '90's. After that? They took the "win at all costs" approach.Sorry OSU football will not be in your future without hole. For me, hole and UW - don't let the door hit you on the way out. They are the one's who walked away from what was the Civil War, not us - and stabbed us in the back on the way out. F those guys. The only way I want to play them is on a neutral field, in the CFP. And beat them like a rented mule, on national TV. Kinda like how we beat down Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. -

And they seem to be getting addicted to “the power” of “calling the shots” for the “conference”. I think if they do actually try to reconstitute the league, it’s going to become a real impediment.
Yeah let’s leave our legitimate conference for something where these two numbskulls who offer nothing other than an old brand are calling the shots…who would do that?

You can't make this up.
Yep, still a lot of them that think the name “Pac12” will equate to automatic success and P5 status once they get up to 8 teams, no matter who they are. They seem to forget that it didn’t equal success when the membership was legitimate, but sure, adding Nevada and 5 others of that ilk = instant P5 status and riches.
But my favorite Beavis belief remains them believing the civil war being played in Corvallis this year is somehow them doing OBD a favor.

No one seems to think tOSU is "buying" players, even though their NIL department is flourishing.
It’s just semi-transparent now…I’m pretty sure the “blue bloods” have been putting envelopes of cash under recruits pillows since, uh, always.

My take away is that instead of having conferences with 2-3 teams in the mix for the league title, we will now regularly have 4-5 above line contenders along with 1-2 teams below the line that have it all come together in a given year.
So anywhere from 5-7 teams in a given year to legitimately compete for the league title.
Also says to me that 3 loss teams making the new playoff might be more prevalent than most seem to expect.

I love to analyze data and look at statistics, an admitted amateur, but I think you can learn a lot from observing trends in data. One fact when looking at data and statistics is understanding when you have enough data to create and rely on the statistics one is observing.
We don't have enough data on Dan Lanning to really have any valid statistics, or understand a trend, IMHO.
Right now we are going on feelings and emotions. My feelings with Dan Lanning are all positive. My emotions have been sent to the moon and dropped to the floor.
I think we will hit the floor a few more times, but moon is the just the start of how high Dan Lanning will take us.
Those are my feelings and emotions. I look forward to putting some more data together as the years pass and seeing some truly astounding statistics.
Oh, another feeling, this guy will be the GOAT coach at Oregon and take us to the promised land!
Good take, impossible for there to be a lot of data.
That being said, we have the biggest piece of data available, well technically speculation. DL rejected two SEC opportunities in two years, including the king of the mountain. Additionally, Kirby Smart is only 48 and DL doesn’t have an alma mater to leave for 😆

USC is not going to restore Pete Carroll glories in one season

USC is not in position to go all the way this year. Merely making the playoff would be amazing for the program. An obscure insight into the obvious.
Seems to imply only being a few years removed from being a contender. Fact check, 4 team playoff lasted 10 years, let’s see…oh yes, zero appearances 🧐

No disrespect at all!
I agree, we need to win one and not be satisfied with where we are, but there isn’t an official blue-blood criteria. When it comes to recruits, our recent success and ability to operate in 2024 is more relevant than say, USC winning a title 20 years ago versus us not having one.
Everyone in the world outside some of us and a few jealous programs think we’re there, but I agree, status quo would not be success.

Ohio State misses out on four-star running back
SPORTS.YAHOO.COM
Ohio State misses out on four-star running back #GoBucksI love the love for OBD but for me, you have to have a Natty to be a Blue Blood. Danno is closing in.
Please forgive the duplicate post but I wanted to post the Buckeyes logo along with the bad for the Buckeyes news.
Historically I think we needed the title to elevate, but I personally don’t think so anymore. As we all know, history is being dumped on its butt left and right lately.
Pre-playoff championships really aren’t all they’re cracked up to be as they get more in the rear view mirror. Minnesota has 7 claimed national titles in football for instance. Seriously, Minnesota?
In the playoff era, only 15 teams have made it, 6 teams have a title, and only 9 of the 15 that have appeared have won a playoff game, including us.
Despite no title, I think 30 years of “new tradition”, with numerous BCS Bowl wins and one playoff victory makes us a new age blue-blood.
Even after we win one, there will still a handful of currently relevant schools that will still say, “Only 1? Big deal junior.”

Thanks, Charles and the other Forum friends for keeping us updated on players, their backgrounds, and star ranking, including the service doing the ranking.
Very exciting in a macro kind of way for me. Looks like we’re #7 give or take now.
BTW, anyone else notice Stanford lurking in the rankings? -

Ranking the football rivalries as the league balloons to 18 teams in the 2024 seasonThere will no doubt be years where there are more important games for making the playoffs, but we’ve removed all doubt that they’re our primary rival, and arguably really have been since 1994.
I have to ask though, if you’re on the list twice, is the second listed game really worthy? Nebraska on there three times feels like a stretch.

I think the most disappointing was the 2014-15 year when our only Heisman winner in history couldn't beat tOSU's 3rd-string. I bet that's still stuck in a lot of people's minds. Think about it - it's the same reason why Notre Dame is always highly rated even though they haven't been elite for a while - coz they did win a bunch of Nattys in the past. Going all the way will definitely push us over that perception hump. Let's all hope this is the year, or it will happen soon.
Third string? They had a pretty good stockpile of QBs and Ezekiel Elliot was a pretty decent player 😆 he ran for 700 yards in tOSUs last three games against Wisconsin, Alabama, and then Oregon.
OBD was down to about two WRs and the offense consisted of chucking the ball to Byron Marshall. That was not some feeble team on we lost to, they were on fire and we were beat up and lacking depth.

Well Mr. Board Game, you of course need a compatible system (PS5, XBox, etc.) The game itself is $70 for the standard edition, $100 for deluxe.
Kirk Herbstreet is heavily involved with the game, not sure exactly how the ratings are done, but they seem pretty good overall outside of a few teams not in the big 2 conferences being inflated.

Cam Ward maybe ok, but he'll probably have to call 90% audibles and turn off his helmet audio of "white noise Mari".
You remember "white noise", it's what a lot of us use to get to sleep. Of course, it does wake up Ds.
Can’t wait for this game!
I think EA Sports is clearly trying to have a diversity of highly rated teams in order to have broad appeal. Hmmm, any future lessons/foreshadowing to be learned from that?

QuoteLet that get the blood boiling Jon.
Beavis desperately wanting to join a conference from the jump, but not having any takers is them standing on principle for all that is good and righteous.

All about perspective.
Over in OSU-land, some people are angry that she wasn’t harsh enough on the “treacherous 10”, that she mentioned love of OBD, and that she is a descendant of Benedict Arnold that will now be covering OBD in the B1G.
From what I can read (no way do I pay to read the 🤡), her farewell reads pretty much like that of an athletes farewell as they enter the portal. P12 forever! Hugs and kisses. Now pardon me while I join a successful conference.

No doubt, and I don’t begrudge anyone that wants to follow each kid. I myself don’t learn their name until it’s on the roster after spring portal…either way this goes, this is still just a verbal and people are acting like it’s the end. Dramatic 5-star wide receiver would never reopen things, right?
Non-binding verbal ceremony is kind of hilarious,
