If the PO CT as it did in a 4-team PO continues to simply count wins and losses with no meaningful consideration of SOS and with a 16-team SEC playing 8 conference games and an 18-team B1G playing 9 conference games, even with the FSU situation in 2023/24 a thing of the past there will be controversy. And conference tie-breakers with the top 2 playing for a conference title instead of say 4 vs 1 and 3 vs 2 had best be well thought out. (And ND best be required come 2026 to join a conference or play 13 games with 10 at least vs P4 opponents.)
I believe the SEC is finally switching to 9 conference games in 2026

I saw a quote just a day or two ago that Oregon State's President is still trying to find a "Power Conference" to join and if that doesn't work they'll rebuild the Pac-12. Which also implies that even he doesn't consider the Pac-12 (2) to be a Power Conference any longer.
I think they only way they get out of G5 hell is if they get themselves to the playoff in a legitimate fashion and not through farce that the Pac-12 should have an auto-bid. Reach the playoff enough times and a Power Conference will take notice and might be interested.
Yep, they’d still leave in a heartbeat if someone (even the ACC) wanted them…which is why they can go sit and spin with this ridiculous narrative.

Seems like Action Network speculation and this is “one of the options”. I won’t hold my breath on this one.
Really makes no sense at all that teams playing in 4 different conferences would somehow have a pecking order for a group of crappy bowls to select from.
Why would we, or our new conference agree to this? If the pac2 wants to pretend to still be a conference and can’t fulfill their contracts, that’s their problem, not ours.Let’s play this out. UO and USC both go 10-2, one of us ends up #13 and doesn’t make the playoff. Everyone would be cool with UO or USC playing in the Holiday Bowl on behalf of the pac2?

Can slice it any number of ways…injuries, recruiting busts, etc.
For me the bottom line is failing to make the tourney 3 straight years when the conference hasn’t been very good. 68 teams make the tournament. Cracking the top 68 every year should be a minimum expectation, and that hasn’t been met. Imagine if the football team didn’t make a bowl game 3 straight years. Making a bowl game is a bit easier, but finishing in the top 68 in hoops should be a pretty minimal standard at a place like the UO.
I think it’s a combination of poor talent evaluation (star chasing), roster construction, and not adapting offensively. We’re not very tough, and when you have 3 straight seasons of massive injuries, I start to wonder if it’s more of a trend than bad luck.

In the grand scheme of things, 'So What?' But Dawgs fans join with Seminoles fans in not being pleased by Herbie's conduct. When is it OK for 'journalists' to cross the line?
Commenting on the FSU situation is one thing. Influencing a recruit's decision is another. Many noticed that at the start of the final PO Committee rankings show, Herbie had Michigan, UW, Texas, and Bama hats on the bookshelf behind him. Also a questionable look.
I know ESecPN is his employer but IMO, Herbie and the other ESPN talking heads have gone over the top talking about all of the great games we see on ABC and ESPN starting in 2024 with no divisions in the SEC and OK/TX coming on board. (With the Warner Bros./ESPN/Fox streaming deal things may have cooled down between the 2 premiere CFB broadcast entities.)
It will be interesting in 2024 to see how often GameDay comes to us from any other but an SEC campus. Fox's B1G Noon pregame show did close in on GameDay ratings last season due to Pat McAfee turning off a lot of fans. What impact will Saint Nick joining GameDay have?
Myself, I’ve stopped watching any pregame shows unless we’re directly involved. It’s become 3 hours of nonsense that adds nothing to my football Saturday. They could go to Tuscaloosa every week and it wouldn’t register with me.
3 hour format has jumped the shark.

Chip has plenty of money so he doesn´t really need any more.
I think what he may be worried about is his legacy. He changed college football forever at Oregon and almost won a national championship with 3 star talent.
He has been a bust ever since. On this forum, someone said about Chip after he return to college and couldn´t win anything.... "I haven't seen anyone lose this much on TV since Hamilton Burger."
Is that what Chip wants to be remembered as???
Being able to concentrate on just the offense at one of the best schools in the country with one of the best rosters in the country, Chip could win multiple national championships before he retires.
That's the way to be remembered. One of the best offensive minds ever to coach.
I was more initially puzzled as to why tOSU hired him. I get why Chip would do it if the NFL wasn't interested. Loved what he did with us, but I think it was a brief aligning of the stars that he took full advantage of.
Preparation met opportunity.

Chip on the other hand had enough money coming to UCLA to live the above Sunset Boulevard lifestyle, which is probably why he did get Bruin Fever in the first place.
But the fake superficial personalities and struggles of the job others are mentioning here made the lifestyle a been there, done that proposition.
Just speculation of course.
More speculation, does this mean the NFL wasn’t interested?
I don’t think it’s burnout on LA as much as burnout specifically on UCLA, and an even greater burnout on being a college HC in 2024.

I wonder how many coaches will turn down this job before they find someone.
1) Live in LA
2) Bad roster

7) And did I mention, live in LA
I get we’re supposed to despise LA, but LA is amazing if you make multiple-millions a year. Not so much if you’re commuting from Rancho Cucamonga.

Puzzling.
Loved Chip for that moment in time at UO, but he hasn’t exactly been putting up big numbers since his return to college, and it’s not like the PAC has been particularly good on D the last decade.
I really don’t understand this from a recruiting perspective, seems like this hurts tOSU on recruiting no matter how it is spun. The OC connection with recruits is critical.

Definitely need to send them packing, regardless of tourney.
Moments like this are when I realize getting out of the PAC is the right move. In any legitimate basketball conference this would be a huge game not relegated to the pac12 network. Instead there will an embarrassingly small tv audience as two top teams in a power conference fight to stay on the bubble.
But hey, I kind of enjoy half the ad space being committed to conference promotions.

Chip Kelly, Go To Your Room!
UCLA's Compsite Ranking is No. 86! This brings up the rear of the B1G including Northwestern (with zero transfers brought in), Indiana, and Purdue. No wonder he is interviewing to be the Seahawks OC.
Is the guy just lazy, doesn't give a whip, or both? Top drawer academic school with a beautiful campus in Westwood. You can't sell this?
Speaking as someone who has a kid at UCLA, not sure how you can’t sell it, my kid was sold the minute she set foot on campus.
As to Chipster, I think it’s all the above with a dash of arrogance. He thinks he’s smart enough to out-scheme anyone as long as he has “good enough” talent.

Good stuff!
I still call this a knee-jerk, borderline panicky over-reaction by tOSU. Their only problem last year was Michigan was better and they lost a close game on the road. That calls for overhauling everything? Making significant, optional changes to a team that went 11-1 in the regular season?
We’ll see how smooth an unneeded transition goes.
