Like anyone is deeply pondering sticking it to Oklahoma.
I can just see all the top marketers deep in the offices at Nike, all our best people on it for three days straight… just finding the perfect way to stick it to Oklahoma because their grad transfer QB left. Eureka! Let’s twist their logo and use it at the Fiesta Bowl! Why stop there? Let’s dedicate the upcoming season to sticking it to Oklahoma.
Brace yourselves Norman, a storm of bizarro world twisted “OU” themes is coming your way!

Some kids may also value playing time or other factors (e.g., a fresh start, new coaches, being closer to home) over NIL $$$…This is so true. Beav fans seem to the think the only reason they lost anyone this year was strictly NIL. Definitely a factor, but playing time and looking good for the NFL because of playing time are the biggest factors for most I think.

Just saw post season rankings that show Oregon at #7... including behind FSU.
The Flames apparently only lost 2 spots, to #25, after that massive blowout, which could have been far worse, had Oregon not pulled several of their star players.
The disrespect is almost palpable.

Nope, them wining a title doesn’t help us at all, beyond lifting us a bit for this year. Long term it’s a huge negative on every front.
I could almost accept the argument of it helping the PAC, but that’s moot and in fact a negative moving forward. The Beavers/PAC2 would claim some kind of ownership of a title, don’t want that.

That would have gave the pack 6 of the best money making schools in college football.
And then there was usuc stabbing every other pack school in the back with the help of that other la school.
And then there was George K over valuing the conference and loosing everybody. Pack should have hired our own Jon to handle this job. Probably would have a 16 team powerhouse conference with Oregon, Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and usuc leading the way. instead of Nothing.
Sorry I got carried away but this really p—ses me of.
I agree that would have been awesome to add Texas and OU in hindsight.
But the real blame falls squarely on 3 California schools not called Stanford. They all relatively sucked the last 10 years with zero playoff appearances, especially the LA schools, but I don’t let Cal off the hook…that’s a program with history and they were terrible. The two LA schools being non-factors in any significant way neutered the conference. Imagine if Michigan and tOSU had performed similarly, or Georgia and Alabama.
USC specifically floundered and blamed the conference. Talk about pointing fingers, if they had acted like a true blue-blood the conference reputation would have been just fine, but nope, they sucked and failed up.

I mean, things were going along pretty well, they'd just completed the $160 million renovations on the stadium (and those renovations looked impressive on the TV news stories I saw), and then, wham, suddenly the PAC-12 was reduced to the PAC-2. Trying to regroup and find enough teams to play in the coming years must be a nightmare.
Yes, I understand that there are beav fans who, in their frustration, are lashing out at Oregon. And that's not going to accomplish anything for them.
But, even though I look forward to seeing the Ducks in the B1G, I can't help but feel sad about the dissolution of a conference that has been around for 100 or however many years. I can't help feel sad for the players who, when they signed on with OSU, were excited and looking forward to playing there.
I hope ourOSU will find a way to keep afloat, find enough good opponents to draw in fans, and find success (except, of course, when they play the Ducks).
I initially felt this way until their fan base started vacillating between being a victim and being arrogant on an hourly basis. They’re complete hypocrites that try to operate exactly the same way we do, but fail at it over and over and refer to us as “Whore-gon”.
Nope, no empathy.

Thanks, David, for another great take.
Who will play QB at Ohio State? (Cam Ward has declared for the draft.) QB Air (!) Noland is a 5 star recruit but being a 5* does not equal playing great ball in the Power 4. And at least in part, I think Lou was right, tOSU is 'softer' under Day than it was under Urban Meyer.
Will Michigan's McCarthy declare for the draft after the champ game? Regardless, Michigan is losing the core of the team that has gone 3-0 vs the Buckeyes in the last 3 games. Oregon does not play Penn State in 2024 but the Pann State O is as bland as an O can get. And the vaunted Penn State D was lit up by Ole Miss. Iowa was pathetic yesterday. Wisconsin had a chance to defeat LSU playing without the Heisman winner. Next year's trip to Madison in November will likely be a tough game.
SP+ has ranked the 15 most difficult schedules in 2024. 7 B1G teams are on the list: No. 2 USC/ No. 3 NW/ No. 5. Purdue ( OREGON trips to Purdue in 2024); No. 8.UW; No. 12 UCLA (at UCLA will be Oregon's first game against a B1G opponent); No. 13 OREGON; and No. Michigan State. Sparty will be visiting Eugene next year. No Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State on the list.
DeBore did get a quality QB transfer out of the portal. Will (I Never Met A Football I Didn't Like) Rogers who was prolific playing for The Pirate at Miss State will attempt to replace Heisman Winner (Ooops!) Penix and I expect will play well in DeBoer's system.
2-loss Oregon, Missouri, Penn State would have been in a 12 team field this season. With 2-loss Ole Miss and Oklahoma on the cusp. I expect that will see at least two 2-loss teams in the PO in 2024.
Danno is 2-0 in his bowl games with a close win vs. UNC and QB Drake Maye and yesterday's roasting of the Flames. I believe Oregon will be competitive in the B1G from the get-go and will go at least 2-1 vs. Michigan, Ohio State and UW.
It's going to be B1G Fun.
Exactly, and I’d add to look at it this way…11 of the final top 12 this year will be in the SEC and B1G next year, and 5 of those teams had 2 losses this year. With them all playing each other more, probably 8 of the top 12 will have an additional loss. I don’t see anyway there are not multiple teams with 3 losses making the field

Right on, good stuff.
I think the number of losses that constitute a playoff worthy year with a 12 team playoff, and 2 super conferences is going to take a recalibration of everyone’s brain. What happens if the top 3-4 teams in the SEC and B1G all have 2-3 losses? Does a 2 loss runner up in the Big12 make it over a 3 loss third place team from the SEC?
Will be fun to watch it unfold, but I think there’s a decent chance the winners of the new super conferences have 2 losses, those schedules are seriously upgrading.

Great take. Thanks.
I have one slight disagreement. Georgia deserved to be in a playoff. Georgia did not deserve to be in a 4-team Invitational. With Bama, a team I assume would have be in as the SEC champ along with UGA, what team do you leave out?
Conference champion UW that went 13-0 in the Pac-12 for the first time since CU and Utah joined. A team that played 9 and not 8 conference games. A team that defeated 8 bowl teams, including (SIGH) the Ducks twice? (BTW, the Heisman winner from the SEC went 2-3 vs teams with winning records.) A team that led the nation in passing. Conference champ of the conference that led the P5 in OOC wins.
Conference champion Texas with a win on the road at Bama and a single loss to No. 12 Oklahoma, by 3 points at a neutral site.
Conference champion 13-0 Michigan from the B1G? The winningest team in the history of CFB benched? One of the Bluest Blue Bloods?
I 100% agree that Georgia should be any kind of logically formatted "PLAYOFF." Extrapolate the PO Ct.'s 2023 final ranking into 2024 and UGA would have been the 7th seed - 1. MI/ 2. TX/ 3. FSU/ 4.AZ/ 5. UW/ 6. Bama/ 7.UGA/ 8. OH ST/ 9. OREGON/ 10. MIzzou/ 11. Penn State/ 12. Liberty.
Georgia would have re-matched against Mizzou in Athens. OREGON would play in Columbus.
But would the final ranking have looked like this? I hope not. And come 2026 I'm reasonably certain that the 4 highest ranked conference champs will not receive a 1st round bye. Why should Arizona playing in the B12 and ranked No. 14 have the 1st round off?
I do think that Bama beats Michigan. But if Penix is on I think UW defeats Texas in back-to-back bowl games. Yes, the game is in Dixie but last season UW beat TX in San Antonio. The win in Tuscaloosa was assume, but UW played a more difficult schedule.
Happy New Year to the great Georgia contributors on OBD and best of luck to the Dawgs in 2024!
Man, does the schedule ramp up or what? Clemson, at Bama, Auburn, at Texas, Florida, at Ole Miss, Tennessee, Georgia Tech - bowl winner over B12 UCF. WOW! But go get 'em Bow Wow!
Good points, bowl records will be marketed.

I think Alabama is gong to crush all it pains me to say.
One inconsistency I’m seeing in here and everywhere else is to selectively use bowl results to draw sweeping conclusions.
I tend to be leaning towards you can have takeaways at the micro level (OSU depth isn’t up to snuff with the big boys for instance), but you can’t draw conclusions that one conference is better than another because of overall bowl records at the macro. Bowl season has become an individual game depth measurement.

Lot of political pressures to play this game and we should hand them their butt when we’re at full strength in good weather…no matter how much they posture they’re a team with MWC level depth that just had their starters gutted. They’ll be lucky to win 8 games next year, I’d predict 7-5.
Them getting more money is annoying but doesn’t really impact us at all. Bottom line, are the top 5 donors happy with the leadership or not?

Don’t fret, PAC be lucky to get more than 3 in…terrible “preseason” equals 2-4 teams making it most likely.
