The Ducks haven't seen much of this particular problem over the years, under MC or any other coach. Just what is causing Shough's problem we don't know, if its lack of focus then that is on the coaches. If its mechanics that also is on the coaches. However, Shough's problem is easier solved, start Brown at QB for this game .

Good points all.
OK, so let's end the farce. Let's end the best teams being those with the multi-millionaire's who can best seduce teenage boys. Create the CFB League incorporating the 32 'top teams, however you want to measure same. Hold a HS draft of kids who want to be paid to play college ball. Have each NFL team adopt a CFB team. Like the minors in baseball, allow the players to move up and down. Have the players join the NFL Union and have all the rights and privileges pro athletes have including medical benefits, the right to market their likeness, taking 'extra' benefits. etc. Player's have 24/7/365 access to the team's coaching staff. Hold an 'NFL-Like- Playoff.' Players get paid, but they can also be cut at any time.
Schools without a football team by choice or from not making the top 32, stay as conference members in their existing conference for all other sports.
These are athletes, not student-athletes.
This begs the question: if it's a business for some why can't it be a business for all ?? "Whats good for the goose is good for the gander".

They wore the same thing against usc last year.
Also... Iowa State's normal home jerseys look very similar to USCs... Perhaps we will see similar results????
Personally... I would love to see some feathers on the shoulders again... But oh well.
Totally agree about the feathers on the shoulders,

YES, it's real. And it's real every time you take the practice field let alone suit up for a game. But that's football. Back in the day guys cared about their teammates above all else.
Probably it's because I am a grumpy, old man, but I'm not giving these drop outs a pass. 1 of the most important contributors to these boys getting paid, their teammates, starters and practice human tackling dummies, alike. This isn't tennis or golf.
1 thing I know for certain, I would not want to go into real combat with these prima donnas. BTW, how many O line guys do you see opting out?
Jon, I don't often disagree with you, however I am in agreement with Drake. With as much money as the schools rake in off of these young kids and don't pay them money in return for their service the players don't owe the amount of allegiance to the schools that you are proposing. In the early days of college football the players did have the feeling of belonging to the Band of Brothers, however ever since the NFL started paying the big bucks that has changed. One has to remember that "football is a business" at all levels and its just good business practice for the players to look after themselves.
Just like Sally's soda shop or some big law firm football is "just business". This "business practice" is also taught in all colleges around the world, even law school.
Very few college football players go to college to get an education, they go there in hopes of getting into the NFL And just like the colleges have entrance exams for students who want to get into school, the NFL has its entrance exam with the NFL Combine and just like for the college entrance exam the students take time off to study up for the NFL entrance exam as rightly they should. Remember football is a business and the NFL is where the big bucks are. With a lot of others players wanting to get in also and a very limited amount actually making it, the players need all the help they can get to pass the NFL entrance exam.
If you study hard and do the extra work you can get into a good college, if not then you get to go to a junior college. It's just business.
Football is a business, the schools treat it as a business, the NFL treats it as a business and so should the players.

Now days more and more players are op-ing out of playing in bowl games so they can concentrate on staying healthy and preparing for the NFL spotlight. The NCAA is working on this and one idea floating around is to increase the number of teams in the playoffs and including the conference champions of each P5 conference.
The thinking here is that the chance of going to the National Championship game will keep the players in the game to the end rather then turning the bowl games into the "second team up showcase" that they are turning into now.
I am all for this idea as it will make the conference championship more meaningful and give more teams an opportunity to go to the big one. This will also help in spreading around the 5 star players to more then just the top 2 or 4 teams as is happing now and making it more possible for other teams to go to the big show. It's called parity
Are there any other ideas you can think of that would keep players from op-ing out of the bowl season ??

When was the last time a Pac-12 team beat anyone significant ?? Winning on Friday will be the same, a win over no one significant, and a loss will be a loss to no one significant.

BDF, I sadly but roundly, agree with you. Follow the $. It is not flowing its way CBB/CFB west. Please see my response to David Marsh's latest + excellent comment, on this thread.
IF many of Oregon's conference members even care about competing at the upper CBB/CFB P5 levels, and I question this, the $ simply is not there to do so.
Run Puddles, run!
You raise a good point about the Pac-12 schools not caring about competing at the upper CBB/CFB P5 level. I'll have to ponder that for awhile.

Can Oregon save face for the PAC12 - - - - Only in a pipe dream.
The Pac-12 is irrelevant and continuing down from there. The game on Friday will not be a given for the Ducks. I would like to see them win but I am a realist, it's a long shot.
The Pac-12 will still be the same old Pac-12 if the Ducks win or not. Because we have not beaten anyone significant and because of the difficult situation Larry Scott and his friends have put us in over the years, and no school in the Pac-12 is raising their voice against them. No school in the Pac-12 is standing up and saying it's time for a change. No school in the Pac-12 has the moxie to take a stand.
The only recourse we fans can come up with is to run, jump conference. I suspect that is what the schools are thinking also. I'm sorry but I put the blame for the Pac-12 situation on the schools as much as Larry and friends.

Darron Thomas, without a doubt. Our defense is already better then it ever has been, our offense not so much. Darron is one of the most unrecognized best players the Ducks ever had at QB.
His stats are here

It all depends on which Oregon team shows up. The team that played Oregon State, or the team that played USC.
To start with we have to have all players healthy and able to play.
Next we have to have them mentally ready and "up" for the game.
Then we have to have little to no Pistol formation.
And no diving into the middle of the line on 4 th and 1.
Game management by the HC must be spot on with no sleeping coaches hanging around.
Next we must have more noisy fans in the stands then our opponent has. With all that We have a chance to win.

Nice take Alex, thanks.
I am not up on Ducks CBB. 1 reason, no Pac-12 Network available here. (I know, you're shocked!)
What are the team records to date? How many games are the teams playing this season? Will there be a conference champ tourneys played in a central location?
I do know that all of The Tournament games this season will be played in Indy. I have long advocated for 1 central Tournament location, moving to a different regional site every year. I think sending fans hither and yon for early games is senseless. And I'd also prefer it if 1st round games, not the BS play-in games, were played in the home gym of the higher seeded teams.
Men are playing 27 total games and are 6-1 right now
Woman are playing 25 total and are 7-0 right now -

I don’t mind the Pistol if it is used properly. As in to close out a team (“with physicality “ as our stubborn leader proclaims).
Mario Cristobal wants to wear down an opponent. I’m fine with that as long as he wears down their minds from the annihilation they experience as the offense drops more than forty points by the end of the third quarter. You know, like he claimed he would do in the first place.
Hopefully the game plan is to make Iowa State dizzy from confusion and a barrage of points. Sir Joe Moorehead is the kind of guy that can unleash that type of offense. I hope Cristobal demands it. And gets out of the way. I frankly never want to see a seven point victory for the rest of my life (and while I’m fantasizing here, why not add no more losses for life either...lol).
Its hard to wear down your opponent when you go 3 and out as was the way it was when we use the Pistol.

Check out what some are saying about the Pac-12 here. Could it be true ??
...this conference has rendered itself irrelevant. That’s what happens when you allow a two-loss team to backdoor their way into a conference championship game and then they actually win.”

I like the fact that the Ducks are the underdogs in this game. We always play to the level of our competition.

One of the advantages the Ducks had during the Pac-12 championship game was the many new looks presented by the offense. The actual plays were not new but the look confused USC and the Ducks took advantage of it. The one I liked was a player running around like a jack rabbit pre-snap. Not just "in motion" but like a rabbit being chased by a fox and setting down "who knows where". Great eye confusion for the defense.
Can the Ducks do even more changes in the pre-snap look of the plays for Iowa to contemplate during the upcoming bowl game ??

A great article laying out the facts about the irrelevant Pac-12 conference.
To answer Drake's question about Larry Scott, the commissioner of the Pac-12, I have to say that Larry is extremely good at getting his inept bosses to give him pay increases and bonus that he doesn't earn or deserve. Larry has them bamboozled into thinking he walks on water, and they continue to support him and his poor ideas that have been dragging down the Pac-12 conference ever since he took office.
Who's to blame for the mess of the Pac-12, - - all the school presidents (Larry's bosses) - - Larry Scott himself - - and all the Pac-12 athletic departments that fail to raise the flag and continue to let it happen.
