  1. Pennsylvania Duck, if Amazon inks a deal with the PAC they wont be doing it to just ink the PAC after dark games.

In the non conference schedule they would have a potential for 30 plus games, if PAC stays at 10 teams. This non con count could be expanded by going to 12-16 teams.

Expanding into the central time zone could create very favorable 10 am pst and 1 pm est kick offs.  Remember Amazon Prime already has subscribers that they WANT content for. Unlike the networks who must attract large Tv markets to get larger ad dollars

Consider that many on this Forum felt that ESPN, FOX, SEC and the BIG were creating a haves and have nots situation. And they would control it all. Proof of this is the pitiful offer ESPN gave the PAC. It was take it or leave it. Fox had nothing to offer the PAC because they gave it to the BIG. Once the PAC inks with ESPN most games will be 7:30 est and later.

Amazon wants to build a sports division. Bezos has stated he wants to dominate West Coast sports. The PAC and a few more added members could help make that happen. However, if Oregon and washington are the bell cows then their games will be centered around prime time eastern time zone.

  2. When one of my 20 grandkids mentioned that NFL Thursday Night football was exclusive to Amazon Prime, I told him that would be 16 games i wouldnt see. He told me it would be easy to get.

Fear, trepidation and panic set in. My sweet wife told me to quit my sniveling and whining because for $100 a year she had Prime. I wasnt convinced.

On Thursday, at game time my wife came downstairs to the living room, handed me the remote. She said, push the talk button and say Amazon Prime sports Thursday Night NFL Football. I did and 20 seconds later i clicked the icon for the game. 10 seconds later NFL football.

It was easy. It will be easy for all of you. My grandson called moments later to have my 6 year old great granddaughter help me navigate the process. He congratulated me that i was already watching the game. Another 4 grand kids called thru the night to congratulate my success.

OBDF members Amazon paid MLS like 2.5 billion for games. This is big time dollars. Amazon wants content. They have a year round, ready made studio cast, pregame and game announcers with 9 months of PAC10 sports to gobble up and show. They dont have to worry about TV sets. They want purchasing customers in ALL markets to sell their brokered goods to. This can fix the PACs pitiful distribution numbers.

PS: They will view ESPN and Fox as competitors to the content they want. This could be another step in shaping media viewing as they want.

    Gonna be very interesting.....

Double PS: Thanks to my sweet wife for loving me.

  3. Wisdom and caution is the prevailing thought when it comes to conference expansion. And above all else, secrecy. SDSU is an option, maybe SMU. Not sure because we truly dont no the total landscape.

It's to quiet out there. The only ones making noise are the BIG And BIG12 commissioners. Not a peep from AD's or school Presidents.

John Canzano feels something is close on expansion and media rights but no one is leaking anything.

IMHO, the PAC will try and go big and bold, depending on Amazon Prime and ESPN. Amazon is a ruthless competitor that plays rough. They may want to shut ESPN out of West Coast content or at least control it. Consider if Amazon paid the PAC $1 billion annually. Thats $100 million per school.

GK strikes me as a go big or go home kind of guy. Time will tell. It took me less than 30 seconds to bring up the Thursday night NFL game. I will gladly take 30 seconds of my time if it keeps us out of the BIG.......

  4. Willie would have encouraged the offense to score points. There would have been no shackles or reigns. That throttle would have been wide open. 50 plus points a game with Justin in 2019. With that 2019 defense the CFP was a reality.

Not sure about the defense after 2019 and how it would have faired under Willie.

Both could recruit talent. One coach wanted 50 plus points a game. The other wanted power, control and one score games.

    Enough said.

  5. I agree with everyone on this thread that this is unacceptable behaviour. Hopefully, any fans who witnessed this will come forward to assist. These fans should lose the rights to any future Duck events.

One to many brews does not excuse this kind of rudeness. If drinking was not involved then these fans have no place at any venue. GEEZ grow a morale compass.

No one and I mean no one should spend their money for any sporting event to ultimately be harassed. The game was between two proud universities with great athletic programs. An organized contest to determine a victor. Not a war between fan bases. A contest not a war.

Perhaps these few knuckleheads should have to take a Charles, Fish Duck class in civility and respect toward others.

PS: Get well soon and a speedy recovery to DazedNConfused. Missing you already.

    GO DUCKS!

  6. When looking at a game replay and the individual stats it is clear that the Duck D line, in this game, did a much better job of keeping the BYU runners from reaching the second level.

The D lineman had 17 combined tackles. With Dorlus (7) and Johnson (6) combining for 13. They lead the team. Let that sink in OBDF members. That's 17 less tackles that Sewell and his fellow linebackers did not have to make.

This was not the case the last 2 seasons. I would say that the less tackles the LB's have to make against the run the better. Also the farther behind the Cougars got, the more they tested the Ducks secondary. Once the Ducks front 7 contained the BYU rush the game moved away from the front seven.

I agree with EastBayDuck to not be to hard on Sewell. He has not forgotten how to play football. Last year he had to play boundary to boundary because the Duck defenders were not setting the edge. This year with better coaching and scheme the D players are improving and Sewell doesnt have to make as many tackles.

Great game Ducks. Many of these young Ducks will be playing on the Palouse for the first time. Going to need another great team effort against another Cougar team to get the win.

    GO DUCKS!

  7. Hats off to the Ducks 1st team offense. Run that darn ball to they stop you.

But double hats off the Ducks D. Well done. Back ups in midway thru the third quarter against the #12 team in the country.

Bet Rick New Weasel wishes he and his incompetent buddies had done some research before theyvoprned their mouths.

    GO DUCKS.......

  8. Alex, thanks for the article and i agree with your takes. IMHO the 3rd game of the season is too early, as Haywarduck noted, "to make bold predictions about the players or production".

Much like a new product being developed for market the Coach Lanning version is in the early testing faze.  May need some adjustments or modifications to get to the finished product. Remember it won't be until Coach Lannings 3rd and 4th season that his recruits will dominate the Duck roster. However, each game will be another step toward the end product

As you and debbieduck pointed out we need to see a pass rush. Baylor pressured and sacked Hall throughout the game. The Cougar offense struggled. This game is on the Ducks Defense. Hold BYU under 30 points and Ducks win. The talent is on the roster now for the Ducks D.

BYU has been on an impressive 23-4 run since the beginning of the 2020. But they have not stepped on the field against tOSU, Georgia or Oklahoma. Big time, powerhouse programs. BYU did beat Utah last year but that was before Rising. The Duck Offense will score in the upper 30's or low 40's as long as they take care of the footbsll. The Cougars D will not stop the Ducks O. Only the Ducks can stop themselves.

The Cougars would be a top 4 team in this years PAC. Oregon is, too. Take care of business and defend your home turf and we will see a Duck victory.

    GO DUCKS.........

  9. If the PAC can get even  $ 1billion deal for an initial Friday night doubleheader game combo for say 5 years. That's $20 million a team per season, for each school in a 10 team conference

They can then sign the low ball deal with ESPN and each school gets another $25 million a season.

An exclusive with Amazon is not in the PAC 's best interest. However, i will not throw shade on GK for trying. The PAC is DOA if the Ducks and imitation dawgs leave. DEAD...

As is, some of the schools have one foot in the grave if the PAC goes away. Go get them George.

  10. DnC, thanks for the article and I agree 100% on your five keys. As in most football games, the battles in the trenches will go along ways in deciding the final outcome.

Since the start of the 2020 season BYU is 24-4. The 2020 season was all Group of Five or FCS teams. With their only loss on the road, late in the season to undefeated Coastal Carolina. In 2021 the Cougars improved their strength of schedule. They swept the PAC! Lost to Boise State at home. Lost to Baylor in Waco and lost to UAB in their bowl game. The Cougars are playing some good ball in the trenches.

Baylor wins games with solid defense. As you noted, they got sacks and pressure on Hall. Hall was not that effective when he was flushed from the pocket.  The Ducks will need to do the same this Saturday. They are more than capable.......

As for Bo, he does not need to be the hero. Just manage the offense.

Distribute the ball to his play makers. Trust his talented, experienced O-line. The big boys up front will win the line of scrimmage. It's on Bo to read his keys and execute. Might take north of 40 points to win this game. That's in the Ducks wheelhouse.

In 2020, Coastal Carolina defended their home turf and beat BYU. In 2021 Baylor did the same. In 2022 the Ducks need to defend their home turf. With 58,000 plus screaming fans and great execution the Ducks will win this game.

    GO DUCKS!

  11. Thanks Smith72 for posting these articles. Finding and sourcing additional revenue streams is simply a must. Especially for the PAC10 to survive.........

Only money, lots of money, will keep Washington and Oregon in the fold. And that protects the Beavers and Cougars, too. Not to mention all the student athletes in non revenue sports. Let usc and ucla and their athletes take 5,000 mile roundtrip road execursions. Every other week.

I know its full on football season but this is significant, positive news.

    GO GK! GO DUCKS........

  12. SoGaDawg, we appreciate you and all the great Dawg fans who come to and share their thoughts on this forum. You and your fellow Dawgs have enriched this forum.

By the way another nice Dawg win on Saturday. Won't be the last shut out your D pitches this season. Barring any injuries to key players you should be on course to get a shot at a repeat.

BYU will be a stiff challenge for the Ducks, however they have some weaknesses that the Ducks can exploit. Besides Autzen is a tough place to come into and pull out a road win. It requires a near flawless game. Should be a fun game.

    GO DUCKS!

  13. On this great Duck forum we constantly comment about how nice it is to have a safe place to voice and share our opinions and feelings.  Charles has created a truly "one of a kind forum".

However the OBDF offers so much more to all of us. Consider this:

    1. The casual Duck fan (Or the true Dawg fan) can come here and keep up with everything "Duck"

    2. Or simply read articles of interest to themselves. Never post a comment or tap an emoji.

    3. Some read articles of interest, post there thoughts and show support with a favorable emoji.

    4. Others take the time to post Duck articles, share their thoughts and are courteous enough to take the time to respond back to others

    5. Some take the time from their day to prepare and write articles. Then respond to the pros and cons from the forum members who read, ponder and reply to the articles.

    6. Charles and other volunteers dig deep and create analysis articles to teach and inform us. Some volunteers dig out articles just to share with us. They cover schemes, systems, formations, position groups and so much more.

    7. Then there are  a few dozen forum members who share their deep observations, share feelings and insights. They breakdown everything, pro and con because they have passion and the desire to express and share with others.

    Its all volunteer! Awesome......

Each of us get to pick our level of interest and participation. All from our computers, laptops or phones. Wether its as simple as read and go or deep analysis of each play of each game. Safely, protected by Charles and his great team of volunteers. Well done and thank you Charles.

The best part is we get the highs and lows provided by our great Oregon Duck student athletes. Then share it with each other. GO DUCKS!

  14. Fun stuff you OBDF members. Personally, whoever beats USC will have to score a bunch of points. Stanford moved the ball at will and at least twice was first and goal inside the five. And they came up with ZERO points. The outcome could have been way different.

600 plus yards and you lose? GEEZ!

We may not see any kind of defensive blue print to stopping their high flying offense until the Utah game. Unless SC stops themselves with penalties and turnovers. If FSU cant handle the Beavus squad at home then handing the traitors in the Coliseum will be a tall task....

Unlike Wisconsin, which is one dimensional, USC can throw the ball and their receivers are NFL caliber. The Cougars were able to play man coverage. The Badgers receivers couldnt get separation. No chance in man against USC. When WSU played zone, the Whisky QB moved the ball. Caleb Williams and those USC receivers will have a field day.

I hope WSU, Utah and UCLA beat the Trojans. Oregon has a good shot at 8-1 in conference but 7-2 is more realistic. That may not be enough for the Ducks to make the title game.

Its a new world without divisions.

    GO DUCKS!

  15. Darren, thanks, as always, for taking the time to present this article. I agree as a fan feeling vulnerable and apprehensive about a potential 1-3 start. After the beatdown in Atlanta i had a tight knot in my stomach but after the EWU game that knot has loosened abit. Your concerns are valid as we have a top 20 program coming to town. Much like Georgia, BYU has a well established system in place. They have many 3rd and 4th year players. Continuity is a valuable strength. BYU will be a tremendous test for the Ducks. One that they can handle.

I apologize for beating the same drum but as long as Coach Lanning and Dilly scheme and game plan to their players skill sets then BYU is at a disadvantage in this game. These players were recruited and developed to run block. The Dawgs, with all that NFL talent and EWU could not stop the Ducks running game. BYU will have no answer either. Pound the ball until they stop you. Keep their D off balance and guessing. This opens up the short and intermediate passing lanes. Routes that Bo, Ty or Jay can hit accurately and move the chains and score points

Autzen and the fans give the Ducks a 3-7 point advantage. You are spot on Darren that Bo should not make careless mistakes and lose that advantage.

WSU took a gamble against Whisky by putting 7 or 8 in the box. Thus leaving the DB's in man coverage. Whisky is one dimensional (power run game) and does not pose a passing threat. Great call by the Cougars coaching staff. Their Defense played with tenacity and like no Cougar Defense i have seen. Attended my first Cougar game in 1958, so I have seen a few.

Unlike Whisky the Ducks have some talented and dangerous receivers. It's just a matter of time before one of these players takes it to the house on a slant.  Personally I am itching for a long bomb but hoping against it. Just take what the twin Cougars defenses give us. Bo throws picks when he forces the throws. He looked good against EWU. No reason he wont the next 2 weeks.

I have no comment to make about our Ducks D because the sample size is too small. Takes time for a D to jell with new players and new schemes. But the talent is their!

The Ducks should win both games. The challenge will be difficult but these are teams that Oregon should beat. My knot is tightening again....

Darren, i agree that other PAC teams are showing improvement. Almost all against Group of Five and FCS schools. Beating schools you should beat as a Power 5 school. I believe the PAC is 1-6 against Power 5 in non conference games. This weekend will give us a better picture with Sparty vs the butt sniffers and our Duck game. The stakes are high........

    GO DUCKS!

  16. Pennsylvania Duck, great find on this article. Thanks for these view points  There definitely is a anger feeling toward Frost, for sure. Just depends on how the final decision maker(s) feel.  His fate is sealed just depends on the when, where and how they pull the trigger.

Also, thank you so much for taking the time to research, find and post all the Duck related pieces. You rock.........

  17. Frost is definitely on the hot seat. However, he is still Nebraska football roy. Soalty. It's probably why he still has the Cornhusker job .

IMHO, he may be safe until October 1st. His buy out drops from $15 million to $7.5 million.  His teams are not getting blown out. They just cant hold leads or close them out. Booing at a home game at Nebraska is just rare. It happened yesterday.  So who knows? First donor with $7.5 million can make it happen.

All bets may be off the table if the Sooners take the Huskers to the woodshed.  It is ironic that Coach Clay Helton's team pulled the upset 2 years to the day he got fired by USC. Good for you and your team Clay.

On a side note. GO DUCKS........

  18. Jordan, you are spot on that the Georgia loss will not define Coach Lanning and this Ducks team. Afterall, the Georgia game was just one loss. Its called the 2022 season for a reason. The team and season will be defined by how improvements and adjustments are made. Or not made!

Some passionate fans were feeling the season was lost. Others were optimistic that the coaches and players would fix it and improve. One of the PAC12 Network announcers echoed what many OBDF members had felt. When the Duck team got on the plane to Atlanta, then the buses to the hotel, met for meals, on the bus to the stadium, then out that tunnel, well it was their first game day experience together. Their first........

Their first chance to implement a new system (both O and D) under a first time HC and staff. The Dawgs were starting season 6 of Kirby's system and game day procedures. Their 68th plus time, not their first.

Hats off to improvement from week one to week two by both the staff and players.

The defense overcoming missed tackles and pursuit: The tackling was crisp, wrapping up the ball carrier solid with multiple players in hot pursuit. DL said it was a priority in practice and it showed on the field. Thats coaching and player developement. Well done D.......

Bo Nix and the offense: DL and Dilly game planned to utilize the skill set of the players. Those big boys up front can run block. The RB's hit the holes quickly and kept the O ahead of the chains. It was easier for Bo to command the O in 2nd and 3 as opposed to 3rd and 12. The run game opened up the passing routes and Bo delivered. Bo delivered. Yes his receivers bailed Bo out on a couple of throws. But thats just silly nitpicking and I wont throw any shade that way. Well done Bo and the Duck O.....

Coaching staff: Nice work in picking the players up off the Georgia turf and moving forward. We all know you will want more things to improve before the BYU game but well done. Coach Dilly nice job taking what EWU gave Bo and the offense. On a few Duck sites some fans were frustrated that no deep throws were being attempted. IMHO, its up to the opposing defense to stop the offense and its strengths. Throwing deep is not Bo's strength. So why call plays that stop yourself.

Looking forward to 2 back to back games against the twin Cougars. Both will be much tougher tests than EWU. Both games are winnable if we pound the rock to set up the pass. Both teams played very well yesterday. Both teams will have a difficult time stopping the Ducks running game. If they put 8 in the box Duck  receievers and TE's will be open on short and intermediate routes.

    GO DUCKS...........

  19. Thanks Charles! It certainly has been fun and exciting watching the Ducks dominate the PAC recruiting. Could be 5 years in a row.

Now Coach Lanning and his staff need to recruit the top players who fit their system. Then develope those players with the same passion and intensity shown on the recruiting trail. GO DUCKS......

PS: A & M bought their way onto that list. Let's see if they can parlay that into a title. Or just be the 3rd or 4th best team in the sec.

  20. Notalot, thanks for posting the article.  Controlling the line of scrimmage (on both sides of the line) and great QB play certainly are the recipe for winning football games.

The Ducks experienced offensive line has that capability. To early to tell about our D line. Takes practice and playing time together to gel. New system, new faces? Gonna take some time.

Now we come to QB development and great QB play. 3 new Duck head coaches and multiple offensive coordinators bringing in new schemes and new systems is not a recipe for QB development! Narduzzi pointed out that Tennessee had 10 different QB coaches in 15 years. The result was not good on the field. Back to back QB transfers for the Ducks speaks volumes about QB development within the program.

TT and JB not getting playing time may be a sign that they may not be developing. Or do they fit the new system? Another point that Narduzzi made was that when Hendon Hooker transferred from Virginia Tech to the Vols, he fit their system.

TT and JB are basically true freshmen in Dilly's system. Could be they need more time to master the schemes nuances.

    GO DUCKS.........

  21. Alex, thank you for the thought provoking article. Last Saturday's game created more questions than answers. They say the greatest improvement comes between game 1 and game 2. There's no reason that we shouldn't see solid improvement this week.

About Bo, Bo has alot of football under his belt. With the O-line run blocking skill set the EWU defense should be on their heals and off balance. This will help reduce the pressure on Bo or any QB in the game. Bo should have a good game. I am more concerned about the QB room! Why can't JB and TT earn playing time?

About the RB rotation, I think a true number one back will emerge over the next few games. All these running backs are new to this coaching staff. No reason to make a guess, just let them play. Let the creme rise to the top. No reason the Ducks shouldn't rush for over 200 yards. As long as thats the game plan.

About the Defense, my concern is the poor tackling. We saw this at times last season. Confident this will improve on Saturday. All the players should understand the new system better this week. With this type of talent, there are no excuses for not improving.  EWU is capable of scoring points and this will be a great opportunity for the Duck D to step up.  BYU and WSU are on the horizon. A few 3 and out and a couple of turnovers will jump start the players

Coaching staff, looking for a solid game plan that utilizes the player skill sets. And better in game adjustments. The players follow the leadership of the coaches. Feel confident the coaches will step up.

    GO DUCKS...........
