1-0 Ducks, still, after six innings. The Columbia pitcher has been superb, but so has Oregon freshman pitcher Will Sanford holding the Lions scoreless for six. Can Oregon’s reliever Santiago Garcia keep it going in the seventh? -
Game summary at the bottom of the thread! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1-0 Oregon, after two innings. Will Sanford has a nice start going for the Ducks on the hill, and I have to admit that the Columbia pitcher is the best we have seen thus far.

Oregon Comes from Behind and Smashes USC 82-61!
Charles Fischer replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Geez, we start out way down...15-4 at one point, and fight back to a five point lead at halftime. This was a tough gritty game for most of it, and I noted that with 13:30 left in the second half...we only had a four point lead. With about nine minutes left it was only five. Then the Ducks exploded, and USC was clearly tired and worn down a bit. My gosh the threes were daggers.. -
I said this before about the football pundits last summer after watching their predictions of the impact of Oregon in the B1G....the time zone thing is real. They have not watched us, don't know us, and I declared that, "this fall will be the surprise B1G tour by Oregon." Looks like that is happening in the other sports as well...

Ducks Baseball No. 11 Only B1G Program Ranked
Charles Fischer replied to HDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
No matter, because we have enough within our schedule, and we have established a reputation, and will keep winning, and thus I believe we will be fine. Not to mention, that bringing USC, and UCLA to the conference automatically elevates the B1G in baseball a bit. -

Normal Baseball Returns: Oregon Beats Columbia 8-3
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
March Came in Like a Lion for the Oregon Baseball Team EUGENE, Ore. — The No. 11 Oregon Ducks put together a pair of dominating efforts against Columbia in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at PK Park, winning game one 35-1 and game two 8-3. The Ducks scored a school-record 35 runs in the opener, besting the program’s previous most runs scored of 23 set against Portland on May 6, 1974, and matched against St. John’s on Feb. 25, 2022. Oregon (9-2) got dominant pitching in the two games allowing just one run in the first 15 innings before the Lions (1-5) scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning of game two. Game 1: Oregon 35, Columbia 1 Oregon scored multiple runs in seven of the eight innings where they batted, including a nine-run inning, an eight-run frame and a six-run innings. Oregon collected 25 hits in the game, including nine extra-base hits (4 HR, 5 2B). Eight Ducks finished with multiple hits in the game while 12 different players and at least one base knock. Seven Ducks had multiple-RBI in game one with a total of 10 players driving in at least one run. Eleven different Ducks scored multiple runs 12 scoring overall. Ryan Cooney went 4-for-4 with a home run, six RBI, five runs scored, a double and a base on balls. Maddox Molony slugged a pair of home runs and had a double, while going 3-for-4 with six RBI and three runs scored. Dominic Hellman, who hit two grand slams yesterday, went 3-for-4 with four RBI and four runs scored. How it Happened: Oregon jumped out early scoring a pair of runs in the first inning. Mason Neville led off with a double into the right-center field gap and came around to score on a Jacob Walsh single. After an Anson Aroz walk loaded the bases, Molony drove in Hellman with a sacrifice fly. Anson Aroz is SAFE! Columbia cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the second, but Oregon answered with four more runs in its half of the inning. Cooney led off the inning with a single, before moving to third on a pair of hit-by-pitches. Walsh picked up his second RBI of the day with a bases-loaded walk with Aroz also drawing a walk to scored Carter Garate for a 4-1 Oregon lead. Freshman Burke-Lee Mabeus continued his stellar early season play. The Ducks’ catcher delivered a two-out, two-run single scoring Hellman and Walsh for a 6-1 lead. The Ducks broke it open in the third scoring nine runs while sending 12 batters to the plate. Cooney did most of the damage belting a three-run home run to cap the inning, but Aroz, Molony, Mabeus and Jeffery Heard had consecutive hits that drove in runs. Oregon tacked on three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to push the lead to 21-1. Molony had homers in both innings, a two-run shot in the fourth and a three-run blast in the fifth. Oregon put eight runs on the board in the sixth inning to make it a 29-1 lead. Walsh hit his 44th career homer, a three-run bomb, in the inning while Cooney had a two run double followed by a Carter Garate run-scoring two bagger. Oregon capped its game one scoring with a six-run eighth inning. Garate had a two-run double, while Hellman added a two-RBI single. Game 2: Oregon 8, Columbia 3 Oregon got a quality start from Collin Clarke and the Ducks hit four more home runs in the nightcap to sweep the doubleheader. Clarke threw six scoreless inning before finally giving up three runs in the seventh inning, but by then Oregon already led 7-0. Freshman catcher Coen Niclai hit is first career home run while Neville, Helman and Aroz all added to their home run totals. Alaskan Freshman Coen Niclai after his first collegiate homer How it Happened: Oregon jumped out early with a three-run second inning. Molony singled and came around to score on Niclai’s two-run home run over the center-field wall. Garate picked up a RBI with a single later in the inning. Aroz made it a 4-0 game in the third with a solo home run, his fifth of the season. The Ducks manufactured a run in the fifth. Aroz reached on a hit-by-pitch, moved to second when Molony walked, and then executed a double steal with Molony to get to third. Niclai then drove in Aroz with a ground out to the shortstop. Oregon pushed the lead to seven with a pair of sixth-inning runs. Neville did the honors slugging a two-run home run onto the roof of the hitting facility beyond the right-field wall. Hellman added his third home run of the series in the eighth inning, a titanic shot over the scoreboard in left field. Doubleheader Notes: Freshman Michael Meckna picked up his second win of the season tossing three scoreless innings in game one … Clarke got the win in game two … He extended his scoreless innings streak to 18.0 innings to start the season before finally giving up a run in the seventh … Six Oregon relievers combined to not allow a run in 7.1 inning of work … Redshirt freshman catcher Zach Justice made his career debut in game one of the doubleheader, while pitchers Tanner Bradley and Isaac Evaniew also made their Ducks’ debuts … Seven Ducks were hit by pitches in game one of the doubleheader, matching Friday’s number that also tied a program record … Garate was hit three times, while Hellman was hit twice … Oregon added two more HBP in game two to run the series total to 16. On Deck: The two teams wrap up their four-game series with a 12:05 p.m. first pitch on Sunday. Quotes: Head Coach Mark Wasikowski On 35 runs scored in one game... “You know, just want to win games, you know. And it was a really good offensive performance, and I thought both teams, the kids, played really well and it was fun to be a part of.” On pitching performance... “We had solid pitching all day, even from the guys who hadn’t gotten a chance to get out there, we had solid pitching. I was excited about the way the guys got after it on the mound. I thought it was a complete effort. We didn’t have but maybe a couple of blemishes, but even in the first game that the score got away, I mean, we just wanted them to play, we just wanted them to play hard and good baseball. And the young guys that got in, they got some really good experience in that game to be able to do that. And it was fun to watch them.” Jeffrey Heard lays down a perfect bunt! On Carter Garate’s performance... “Gritty, you know. I think he had 10 out of his 11 or so at bats, if I’m not mistaken, were really good at bats today, you know. And so, just gritty, team player playing good defense. Everything that you’re, you know, looking for.” On Coen Niclai’s offensive performance... “Well, oddly enough, he’d been, you know, in the fall, in the spring scrimmages for is, he’d been one of our team leaders in RBIs. And so, we’d really seen him hit, and hit very well for us in our scrimmages. And so, you know, it was just early, and he needed to get his feet underneath him. I think as you see him go more and more, you can tell we’ve got a ton of talented players. And Coen’s really, really good. He comes from a wonderful family too. The kid is really a rock star.” Collin Clarke On overall performance… “Did well, could have done better. Guy had a round in the seventh, could have gotten out of it, but I didn’t so.” On mentality going into second game of doubleheader… “I wouldn’t say there was really any change. Keeping the score down is always what you’re really trying to do.” On bullpen performance… “Gabe Howard came out and got my guy out. Cole Stokes and Santi Garcia were both competing in the zone. They did awesome.” Maddox Molony On hitting performance in first game… “I was confident. I felt like I was seeing the ball well and things were working. It was a lot of fun.” On Ryan Cooney’s performance… “It’s awesome. I definitely root for him a lot, but it’s cool to see him succeed with how hard he works, and I know how hard he does work.” Collin Clarke On team’s offensive success… “It’s being there for the next guy, being excited for the guy no matter what he’s doing. You’ve seen guys with success being excited for them. Guys without success are even more excited just being there for other guys.” Ryan Cooney On offensive breakthrough… “Baseball always has a little bit of luck in it, but I think I just wasn’t swinging at the best pitches, or I wasn’t finding what was right for me. I try to put up quality at bats for the team all the time. I think that was showing up in those first two weeks.” On team’s excitement in 35-run performance… “We were excited for dudes. It gets a lot of opportunities for other guys as well; I think that is really important. We’re relentless and I think our offense showed that today.” On approach entering fourth game of the series… “I think taking tomorrow’s game as a separate game. Every day is a new day. Today happened, it was awesome, but tomorrow we need to come out and be as relentless as we were in the first game today.” -

7-3 Ducks after seven innings. What a shame...as Collin Clarke wore down in the seventh and gave up three runs. The pride of West Linn, freshman Gabe Howard came in and finished the third out. -

5-0, Ducks after five innings. Collin Clarke has been awesome with five scoreless innings in this game to make 17 scoreless innings for the year! -
Game summaries of both games will be at the bottom of thread. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3-0 Ducks, after two innings. Collin Clarke has the hill, and is off to a great start! Alaskan Freshman Coen Niclai hit his first collegiate home run! The talent at catcher...

Nice to see a five point 39-34 lead at half, so finish it Ducks! -
21-1 Ducks! After five innings, as the laughter continues. Jason Reitz left after four innings, and only one run given up, and was replaced by Nebraska freshman Michael Mekna--who then retired the batters. A good game to boost batting averages, and it is great to see good hitters begin to hit the long ball, as Maddox Molony has for the second time today!

Game summary will be at the bottom of the thread soon! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I will admit that Columbia is looking weaker than thought on paper thus far. Yesterday they had a ton of fielding errors we won't see from the rest of our schedule, and did not see against Toledo or Rhode Island. Their pitching also looks weaker thus far. But win the games! After two innings...Oregon is up 6-1! The Ducks may have one of the best freshman in the nation as Burke-Lee Mabeus is continuing to hit well, and drive in runs. The word is, he turned down a ton of money from MLB to develop further at Eugene, and boy we are glad he did! Batting over .500 to start the season! Mason Neville is back in the lineup, and has already got on base and scored! They moved Jason Reitz from the third game starter, to the second game, and he has been a bit shaky at times, but held them to a run thus far.

Hellman Belts Two Grand Slams, Ducks Roll to Win EUGENE, Ore. — Dominic Hellman belted a pair of grand slam home runs to lead No. 11 Oregon to a 20-11 win over Columbia in game one of a four-game series on Friday night at PK Park. Hellman, who went 3-for-5 with eight RBI and three runs scored, hit the home runs in the Ducks’ seven-run second inning and UO’s four-run seventh inning. He finished with three extra-base hits, doubling to leadoff the fifth inning as well. How It Happened: Some early fireworks as the two teams combined to score 10 runs in the second inning. After the Lions put three on the board with a two-run homer and an RBI double, the Ducks answered with seven in their half of the inning. Anson Aroz led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a Maddox Molony hit before Burke-Lee Mabeus put UO on the board with an RBI double off the top of the left-field wall. Jack Brooks walked to load the bases before a Ryan Cooney hit-by-pitch and Carter Garate bloop single both scored runs to tie the game 3-3. Hellman stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and launched the first pitch he saw off the scoreboard beyond the left-field wall for a 7-3 Ducks’ lead. Oregon (7-2) tacked on a run in the third to make it 8-3. Mabeus led off the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on throwing error by Lions’ pitcher Will Harrigan. Cooney picked up his second RBI of the day driving in Mabeus with a line drive to left field. Dominic Hellman hitting one of his Grand Slams... Columbia (1-3) cut the lead to 8-4 with a run in the fourth inning, but Oregon countered with another big inning in its half of the frame. Jeffery Heard led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run over the right-center field wall. Hellman reached on a HBP before moving to second on an Aroz single and to third when Molony got hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded, Mabeus ripped his second double of the game, this time a two-run shot into the right-field corner. He scored on a Brooks’ groundout after Molony scored on a wild pitch to make it a five-run inning. The Lions got three back in the sixth to cut the UO lead to 13-7, but Oregon responded with a pair of runs in its half of the inning. Cooney reached on an error to lead off the inning and moved to second on a Garate bunt single and to third on a wild pitch. Heard collected his second RBI of the game with a liner to left to score Cooney, before Garate scored on an Aroz sacrifice fly. The two teams traded four-spots in the seventh inning. After a three-run homer cut Oregon’s lead to four, the Ducks got them all back with one swing of the bat again by Hellman. After Oregon loaded the bases with two outs, Hellman launched his second grand slam of the game over the left-center field wall to push the lead back to eight runs. Oregon added to the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mabeus reached base for the fifth time in the game when he was hit by a pitch. Another HBP and a walk loaded the bases allowing Garate to drive in Mabeus with a sacrifice fly. Jaxon Jordan shut the Lions down over the final 2.1 innings allowing just one hit with a strikeout to close the game out. Box Score Notes: Hellman’s grand slams were the third and fourth of the season for the Ducks with all four coming over an eleven-inning stretch between last Sunday’s series finale against Rhode Island and the series opener vs. Columbia … Hellman’s eight RBI tied a program record set by current Ducks’ assistant coach Jack Marder vs. Nevada on March 19, 2010 … Seven Ducks were hit by a pitch during the game matching a program record set on April 14, 2014 when San Diego plunked seven Ducks and matched on April 12, 2023 when San Francisco hit seven Ducks … Oregon’s 20 runs scored tied for the eighth most in program history, marking just the ninth time UO has scored 20-or-more runs in a game … It was the most runs scored by a Ducks’ team since UO matched the program record with 23 runs scored on Feb. 25, 2022 … Grayson Grinsell struck out seven in 5.1 innings of work, moving into eighth on Oregon’s all-time strikeout list passing Dean Kegler (1978-81) and Robbie Snow (1962-64) … Grinsell (1-1) go the win, the 10th of his career. On Deck: The teams play a doubleheader at PK Park on Saturday with a 11:05 a.m. first pitch. Coach Mark Wasikowski On the team’s offensive approach... “We swung the bats well. We were able to win a high scoring game. You have to win a lot of different ways if you’re going to be a good club and it was good to see. It’s good to see us be able to continue an offensive attack and we had some big swing obviously, but it took a lot of good at bats to get to the big swings.” On winning in different ways... “We just want to play good baseball and I thought we played good baseball today. We played an errorless game. We gave up some runs, but we got a lot more runs. We need to get Ryan (Featherston) back on track because at some point we’re going to need Ryan. That’s an obvious takeaway. Grayson (Grinsell) pitched well. Jaxon Jordan came in and was fantastic again. I think that’s his second straight outing in live games where he has been outstanding and he’s been really good at practice as well. So it was good to see Jaxon and Grayson but it’s just unfortunate, we need to get Ryan going.” On Anson Aroz playing center and having Jeffery Heard back... “It’s great to have Jeffery back out there. It’s also great to have Maddox Molony back out there. Just the more healthy bodies we can get. I think fans are going to really like a kid named Parker Stinson. He hasn’t even played for us yet this year and he was our best hitter for the fall and the spring. He’s really good and we’re hoping he can get healthy where fans can see him. He’s a special talent.” Jaxon Jordan On what was working tonight… “A lot of trust in my stuff, I’d say, you know. Not overthinking, which has been a problem in the past. Just kind of going out, letting it loose, a lot of trust. I know that I’m good, I know why I’m here.” On development and role on the team… “Not really worries about roles too much. Just like I said, just going out there and winning games for my team. You know, they deserve it. They work their tails off. So, I mean the least I can do it just go out there, free minded and go shove.” Burke-Lee Mabeus On what was working tonight… “I was just staying loose through the middle. I think this was my first at-bat against a lefty in college. That was a big at-bat for me. Marder pulled me aside and he was just saying, really trust your, you know, talent that you have and stay through the ball. Just trying to be as relaxed as I can and put a good spin on balls.” On growth so far… “Yeah, well, you know, especially even in fall ball this level, it’s just going to be where pitchers pitch you. And I’ve learned that. I’ve tried to learn that as quick as I can and shift my approach to the other way. And, you know, continuing to stay loose and see balls a little bit deeper has helped me with, not only fastballs, with off-speed as well.” Dominic Hellman On aggressive approach today… “It’s all about just being through the middle. A huge part of what I worked on the past year was make sure my discipline was good, and I could actually see the ball and put some barrels to the ball. I feel like when my direction is going through the middle, I can see the pitches a lot better and recognize spin and recognize when I’m on time to a fastball. So, my whole goal is just to be on time to a fastball and recognize spin.” On second grand slam… “I actually didn’t even realize that the bases were loaded. I kind of just blanked and was like, ‘Okay, well we got two outs. So just stay on the ball and try to extend the inning a lot longer’, and we did extend it a lot longer.”
