EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon has closed the Eugene campus today (Sunday, Jan. 14) for safety reasons, meaning that no fans will be permitted into today’s women’s basketball game between Oregon and Arizona at Matthew Knight Arena. Ticket credits will be provided for today’s game. Season ticket holders will see the credit on their season ticket renewal, with other fans able to use the credit for any Oregon Athletics event through June 2024. The game will proceed as scheduled at 12 p.m. and can be seen on Pac-12 Oregon and heard on the Oregon Sports Network.

Again...what is the purpose of this forum? It is to discuss Oregon sports, especially football. That means we share our opinions on the numerous negative events that happen over time, and that is part of what we do. We cannot get personal with the current coaches or current players, but we can certainly call out their coaching decisions, (Take the damn points!) or do critical analysis and be negative about player performance. Former players and coaches? Other journalists or players, coaches, ADs at other places? Fair game, and you can go-for-it. But I do not want anyone to feel that they now cannot criticize Dan Lanning when he makes an error. Not only do I permit it, I encourage it. We give credit where due, and grief where deserved as that is what doing your own critical analysis is.

Well, another site reported that Washington was losing 20 of 22 starters to the NFL, graduation or the portal. (Well, how 'bout that recruiting class? Yikes!) Karma, Baby!

It could happen. John Canzano reported in his article today, (sorry for the late post about it, as...I'm busy these days) that Smith's buyout at Michigan State is only 7 million. Considering how they think of him in Seattle, isn't 7 million almost chump-change these days? Damn. He could take the unremarkable recruiting classes at Montlake, and turn it into something dangerous. So, we could face him in the B1G at one school or another?

EUGENE, Ore. — Trailing by 18 late in the first half, the Oregon men's basketball team stormed all the way back to remain perfect at home this season and also in Pac-12 play by beating California in Matthew Knight Arena on Saturday, 80-73. Jermaine Couisnard had 18 points to lead the Ducks (13-3, 5-0 Pac-12), including a three-pointer just before halftime to cap a 16-2 run that cut Oregon's deficit to 43-39 at the break. They took the lead for good on a Kario Oquendo three-pointer at the 11:34 mark of the second half, rewarding a crowd of 6,748 that braved frigid temperatures around Eugene to see the UO men improve to 9-0 at home this season. "The crowd was great; I didn't know if we'd have anybody show up," UO coach Dana Altman said. "The students, people who came, that was one where, when you're down 18 and stuck in the mud like that, the crowd really picked us up. And we finally hit some shots, and finally got some stops." Jadrian Tracey had 14 points for the Ducks, and led all players with a plus-21 margin when he was on the court Saturday. Keeshawn Barthelemy and Jackson Shelstad each added 12 points, while starting post Mahamadou Diawara was plus-20 in his 19 minutes of action. Saturday's game also featured the return of UO post N'Faly Dante, who hadn't played since the season opener due to injury. He had eight points and two rebounds in his return for the Ducks, who remain the only unbeaten Pac-12 team in conference play at this point. "We gotta get used to playing with him, getting more movement when we throw the ball to him so they can't double him as easy," Altman said. "But defensively there late, he really did a good job." Couisnard hit a three, Barthelemy pulled up for a jumper, Tracey hit a three and then Couisnard closed the half with back-to-back three-pointers that made it 43-39. Scoring in the second half opened with Tracey making a steal and driving all the way down for a dunk. "I just want to be energy for our team, give our team energy — talking, communicating," he said. "We had to pick up our talk a little bit, communicate more. That's what I was trying to do." The Ducks finally clawed into the lead on a Shelstad three-pointer that made it 46-45. Cal rallied back in front, before Oquendo's three gave Oregon the lead for good, and he drove the lane for a thunderous tomahawk slam on the next trip. He missed an and-one opportunity, but the Ducks got the rebound and Tracey scored the first two of what ended up being seven straight points by him for a 63-55 lead. Cal closed back within two a couple of times late, but with Oregon up 68-65 the Ducks got stops on six of Cal's next seven possessions. A 6-0 run by the UO men put them up 76-67, and they held on to win, holding Cal to 34.4 percent shooting in the second half after the Bears shot 54.8 percent in the first. Notalot, I know you well, and you are now and will always be a far more noble man than Mr. FishDuck. While you hope Oregon fans will not turn negative sometime as Clemson fans did...I am very convinced of the reality of human nature because... We will. I've seen it often in the 12 years of the two Oregon sites of FishDuck.com and the Our Beloved Ducks Forum, and I expect it in the future. Fans pledge lifelong allegiance to Chip Kelly, and when he leaves, they get huffy-in-a-hurry. Fans who declare that Mario Cristobal is GOAT at recruiting for Oregon, will boo him in the stadium versus Cal a few years later. Oregon fans who KNOW that Mark Helfrich is bringing a new era to Oregon after a 'Natty appearance want him fired two years later. I am as fickle as the rest. As one of the almighty's imperfect children...I am a sinner who makes ongoing mistakes that I have to atone for in public at least once a year on this forum. And I made the rules...how nuts is that? We all do it, as we all screw up. That is why I am quite willing to give grace to those who make an error with our rules, if they will give me the same grace when I mess up. To ask people to not repeat the mistakes of Tiger fans is noble....but unrealistic, but we love you for the sentiment.
